New to MUSHing?

If you’re new to MUSHing, you’ll probably need some help figuring out this whole ‘MUSH’ thing. This documentation will help you get started. MUSH is short for ‘Multi User Shared Hallucination’, and is a form of ‘chat’ server that allows you to interact with other people in a virtual, text-based world, similar to an MMO without the graphics.

• First and foremost, you’ll need a MUSH client -- that is, a telnet client that connects you a MUSH. The most popular is called MUSHClient, for Windows. It can be found here: http://www.gammon.com.au/mushclient/mushclient.htm . If you’re on Macintosh, you can check out Potato MUSH Client: http://www.potatomushclient.com/

• There should be choice in the ‘File’ menu to ‘Connect to...’ or ‘New World’ or something similar like that, depending on your MUSH client of choice. Name it ‘Radiant Heart MUSH’, and put in the IP Address: <not open yet!> with the Port: <not open yet>. Click Okay, and it should connect you to the MUSH.

• You most likely don’t have a character yet, so type ‘connect Guest’ to connect as a Guest. When you get your character bit, you’d type ‘connect <character name> <password>’.

That’s it, you should be connected to the MUSH!

Now that you are connected, we can learn about Commands. You can pass commands to the MUSH to allow you to do things.

Commands are typically typed out, then pressing enter sends the command to the MUSH.

• Look: The ‘Look’ Commands. allows you to look at the room you’re in, see its description, and who is currently in the room with you. You use it by typing ‘look’ and pressing enter, to pass the command. You can append a name, or item to it, to look at someone particular, such as ‘look <name>’ or ‘look <object>’. You can only ‘look’ at people and things in the same room as yourself. Alternately, the letter 'L' (upper- or lowercase) can be used as a shortform, e.g. 'L <name>'.

• Who: See who’s currently connected to the MUSH, as well as some information about them, such as their alias and faction.

• Say: This allows you to speak, in the format of ‘Say <Message>. For example, ‘Say Hello, How Are You Today?’. You can also use quotes (i.e., the ‘ “ ‘ key) as a shortform for ‘say’, for example: ‘ “Hello, How Are You Today? ‘.

• Pose: This allows you to act out, or emote, a phrase without ‘Saying’ it. For example, ‘Pose waves to the Room!’. A colon (i.e., the ‘ : ‘ key) is a shortform of pose, for example: ‘ :waves to the Room! ‘.

• +Guest: This lets you speak on a public Guest channel on the MUSH. There are other channels that are used in much the same way, but Guests can only use the +Guest channel. For example: +Guest Hello, I have a Question!
