| Marinette | Ten minutes ago, in English. The instructor is tired, it's been a long day. "Thank you. Sit down," He says to the student that's just finished their reading. He looks at his class, then his list. "Dupain," he states, omitting half of the student's name. He doesn't speak French, after all. When the student in question doesn't stand, not recognizing the name, he states it louder. "Oh!" The blue-haired girl stands, as ordered, then looks up at the reading material. She pauses, squinting, and makes the teacher wonder if she needs glasses. She's never done well. Then she opens her mouth, and tries to read. Fifteen seconds later, she's sitting down again as the class has gone UTTERLY SILENT. The teacher pauses, looks at the child, and says simply, "Nande wa?" What the ...that was...what? He puts a 'get tutors' mark on his paper, then hands it to her. In front of the class. The child should not BE here. Fifteen minutes later. "You should not be here, loser!" That's the most recognizeable thing said, the rest not being in English. Class is over, but CLASS is in session. Apparently. And they have her surrounded. |
| Emi Hoshino | Emi does take english. Most of her favorite movies are in English. She watches a LOT of movies. Cinemaphile, not that anyone'd know that. Mostly, they don't know it because the girl with the fancifully done up, slightly dyed pink streaks into her hair (SO REBELLIOUS except not really because so many Japanese kids and adults do that) doesn't really engage with anyone in class. At all. In fact, if Marinette ever glanced her away, it'd almost seem like she's sleeping. So disrespectful. And yet, the one time she did get called on, she answered the question perfectly, like she hadn't been asleep at all. That teacher, being a little frustrated as he seems, was a bit halted in doing so. Substiutes. They'll never change. And yet, Emi never opened her eyes. Until after class, that is, when she got up and gathered her things to leave only to hear the cat-calling start. Japanese students are so respectful and disciplined until they're not. Holding her bag to her chest, she considers her next moves for a moment, one eye-half open and the other closed as she observes them before she sidles up towards the bully in question, suddenly draping across his arm and giving him her best Yandere Expression. "I've been watching you, you know," she begins, "I know what you do between classes and I *love it*." Crazy eyed-girl, GO. |
| Marinette | < So quiet! > the bully says, freaking out a little at the sleepy girl's sudden appearance. He backs away, his attention fully shifted to her, eyes narrowed. < Are you a ninja? > A couple of others poke at the blue haired one, who was trying to figure out what to say from the look on her face but was not being given any chance! She opens her mouth, then closes it again. She doesn't look scared, just overwhelmed. Then she tries again, but by then the guy and his two friends are talking again and the moment has passed. "She caused it, you saw that she's Nihongo Jozou." His friend laughs, then the trio turn their backs on Emi. Which might not be the best idea, but they're showing that they're unafraid. So they don't see when the blue-haired girl's right fist balls up, and she starts walking toward them. Oh that's not good. |
| Emi Hoshino | Emi sees it, however, and she knws exactly the kind of hell that will bring down on Marinette. She knows because she's done it and will do it again, darn it! "Yeah, her Japanese is as bad as your report card," she retorts. She casually interposes herself between Marionette and the bully, serving as a physical impediment to her intent. It's a very recognizable gleam in those eyes. Having delivered her OH SO CUTTING remark, she whirls around to grab Marinette's arm, aiming to turn her around and guide her away with her. "Come on. You've got a class to get to. More importantly, *I* have a class to go to." Her nose wrinkles up and she shoots a glance over her shoulder. She knows the girl won't understand most of what she said, if any of it. That's not important. Her body language is pretty clear. "Besides, there's nothing new under the sun -- especially not him." She gestures with her thumb over her shoulder towards him, back turned. |
| Marinette | The bully and his two backup dancers turn their heads, but the two ladies are in full retreat. Or that's how they see it, not knowing that this almost got ugly. Or uglier, they were no models to start with. But Marinette doesn't fight, not the girl who was helping her. When she's grabbed she frowns deeper though. She walks as guided, but she says, "I was just going to ..." She isn't sure what she was just going to. Emotions were running high. Seems to be a trend. Then she nods, listening to what her guide says. "I've met a few bullies before," she says. Her English isn't great, but it's recognizeable. "Thank you." |
| Emi Hoshino | With a lackadaisical half-bow -- Emi's good at being disrespectful and seemingly uninterested in things (SO COOL), she accepts her thanks. She misses a lot of what she says, but enough to get some of the context. Bullies. Thank you. That's enough. Her english needs as much work as Marinette's Japanese. "Daijobu," she responds, nonchalantly before switch to the englishn equivalent, "Its OK," she adds, accent all apparent. She throws her arms up above her head and gives herself a quick stretch. "You punch, they side with him. Not you," she stutters over her English, eyeing her blue hair. She sweeps the pink strands out of her own face and eyes, staring at her. Here, this close, her heterochromia is entirely visible. One eye blue, the other green. "I know," she tells her. "Nail that sticks out gets hammered down," she reminds her, a common saying. |
| Marinette | She's certain that she's heard that before, somewhere. That last bit. Listening quietly, Marinette walks as she parses Emi's accent. It's awful, but so his hers so she's no right to whine. She says something in another entire language, her words sounding fluid and melodic. Then she shakes her head and says, "I wish I could tutor in French. I could at least be good at one thing, in Japan." Then she tips her head just a bit. Her eyes widen. "So cool," she says under her breath, looking at Emi's eyes. Which is one phrase that Emi probably DOES know. Then she pauses, clearly thinking, before adding "You fight? A lot?" She makes a punchy motion with both hands, and it looks ridiculous. |
| Emi Hoshino | She eyes her. Just eyes her for a long moment. And yes, she does know 'so cool'. She's trying to understand. Its a struggle. Finally, she shrugs her shoulders and spreads her hands wide nonchalantly. Let her make her own assumptions. It's the best way to be cool. She points down the hallway and walks alongside the sea of orange school uniforms. |
| Marinette | Marinette shuts up for a moment. Then she talks more, gregarious and babblemouthy at times. "You probably get that a lot. You're the one who gets all the questions right, I saw you doing that even when you were asleep and it was amazing. I fall asleep sometimes but when I do I just wake up with stuff stuck to my face." It's too much, she knows that it's too much. But she's not used to silence. She's also just walked past her classroom doorway, having missed it. Ah, the effects of fame. You attract people. Or Emi does, Marinette just looks the fool. |
| Emi Hoshino | Emi Hoshino is not famous. Not really, anyway, but she does draw some attention with her eyes at the very least. Heterochromia may be a popular OC decision or in animes, but its hardly the kind of thing that makes everyone like you. It's weird, after all. She has no idea what Marinette is babbling about, mostly, but she's definitely *acting* like she does. She's sooooo knowledgeable. Keep up that brave front, Emi, and you can fake your way through anything! She's still on her way to her own class, letting Marinette accompany her. "Hm hm hm," she says, shouldering her pack. Its surface ripples a little oddly. Is something moving around in there, or was that just a trick of the sight? She clicks her tongue against the roof of her mouth in dissapointment as she reaches the door. |
| Marinette | Marinette? She's at that point stopped babbling her mouth off. She's looking around, eyes confused. "Where am I?" she asks more quietly, so likely to herself. She blinks, then looks back to Emi. And she spouts a bunch of phrases in Japanese, bowing and looking ...wrong. "Dijobu! Nande wa! Arigatou! Asimasem!" Sigh. At least one of those was 'thank you' but the rest...she actually might want to take the teacher's advice on those tutors and stop just learning from anime she's watched in her dorm room. Then she's turning, looking at room numbers. Ichi, ni, san...where is my class? her body language says. But really, this is something she could prooobably handle alone. You know, eventually. |
