| Adora Rainbowfist | Adora was minding her own business. Studying in the library. She'd been applying herself quite well to her studies! Turns out, a former soldier actually thrives pretty well in structured environments, even if her knowledge of a lot of the history and such of the world was a bit suspect at times. At the very least with Ami's help she /has/ been getting passing grades. So far. ...With the occasional weird answer. But at the moment, she's taking notes while reading a history book. ... Well, taking notes is a bit of an overstatement. She was doodling while reading the same paragraph over and over, her focus elsewhere at the moment. Largely due to recent weird dreams that were a slightly different weird than normal and being completely unsure how to feel about them. |
| Setsuna Meiou | As periodic checkins are a thing for certain patients, Nurse Meiou has a schedule set...and it's been a few weeks since Adora was last by the Infirmary...so it's time to make an in-person visit. A brief consultation with an informant lets her find where Adora is currently spending her afternoon...so it's only a short time later that Nurse Meiou wanders into the book repository and comes to a stop near Adora's desk. How she manages to do so almost silently while wearing three inch heels is a question that SEVERAL students have asked themselves over the last year or so. Noting the doodling and the lack of page turning, the older woman smirks a bit and shakes her head. Giving a little cough, she says, "Well, Miss Rainbowfist...while a moment ago I might have felt bad about interrupting your studies, I can see you've hit one of those moments where you could likely use a bit of a change of pace before you can meaningfully carry on." She nods towards the doodles, "So good practice dictates that I do at least a cursory follow up with you on how you're settling in...but it also occurs to me that I believe I promised to introduce you to some more of the local cuisine once upon a time." Well, 'local' on the planetary scale, at least. She smiles, "With that in mind, what say we combine the two and go get something to eat. There's a new place I want to try and I detest eating alone." |
| Adora Rainbowfist | That is definitely a Skill, since normally heels do make that iconic clicking noise when someone walks in them normally! Which is why Adora nearly falls out of her chair when Setsuna gives that little cough, quickly closing her notebook. Ohgoshhidetheevidence. They may or may not have been doodles of catra. Also cats and fire. She does her best to re-collect herself as Setsuna talks. "Ah, uhm, hi nurse Meiou!" She says, giving a bit of a little awkward clear of her throat as she turns towards Setsuna in her chair. "...Yeah. Yeaaaah. There was a weird dream recently, something about fire and stuff and while I normally have weird dreams that was a weirder weird dream than normal and it's kind of distracting me." Also for some reason something about it has her concerned for Catra. She's not entirely sure why. Maybe just because she hasn't seen Catra in a while. "...Food sounds good, yes." Adora says, standing up and sliding the chair back to where it goes as she slides her books into her book bag. "So uhm. ...Lead the way?" |
| Setsuna Meiou | It certainly DOES seem to be a skill of some sort, as the moment that Nurse Meiou steps out of the Library, her shoes start making the high-heel clacking noise once more. Coming out of the Library, she turns and leads out to the parking lot, where she waves at a black one of those hatchback style min SUVs that's already got it's engine running. Pausing next to the rear door, Nurse Meiou takes off her labcoat, revealing herself to be wearing a white button down blouse and a black pencil skirt as she folds her coat up and places it in the rear passenger seat before closing the door and climbing into the driver's seat. Seatbelts are engaged and various controls are fiddled with as she waits for the blonde to secure herself as well, "So how well have you been settling in? Have you gotten used to the bedding, or do we need to see about your matress still?" Once all is secured, she pulls smoothly out of the lot and into traffic. |
| Adora Rainbowfist | Huh. Maybe it's some sort of anti-noise spell cast on her heels to not make as much noise in the library? Adora was actively staring at those heels as if trying to examine them for such a spell with her totally-able-to-sense-magic skills. Yep. Definitely. Soon they were at that mini-SUV and Adora was looking it over. She'd seen cars some, but well. Mostly in passing, less in person! "It's still so weird that your vehicles don't float on this planet." Adora comments off-hand, as she settles into the car and buckles herself in. ...It takes her a couple of moments. ...She hasn't really interacted with the seatbelts in this world much. "It's ... fine? I mean, there's a lot of different things about this world and that not everyone knows about magic is weird. And the bed is fine now that I've adjusted to it and I managed /not/ to kill it like I did to Glimmer's bed, so that's a plus." Paaaaaause. "The, uh, thingy you gave me has been helpful, too." Not that she remembers the name of it. It's fine. Probably. "The fact everyone seemed to already know me was weird at first, but now it's kind of settled down now that I've re-met a lot of people. People have been really nice, too. Like Usagi! She's been wonderful, and Ami has been helping a lot with my studies, which has been nice." |
| Setsuna Meiou | Setsuna smiles at hearing that Adora has re-met certain people, then snorts a bit, "You'd have had to beat Ami-chan with a stick to STOP her from helping you with your studies...and probably would have had to do the same to keep Usagi from doing her best to be your friend once more." Some modest navigation is done, and she glances over, "...I'm almost afraid to ask, but how does one 'kill' a BED?" There HAS to be a story there. She shakes her head a little, "Well, I'm glad you're settling in well. I was worried a bit at first, but I'm glad to see you bouncing back." She frowns for a moment at the navigation aid before she realizes, "Ah, Okay. We need to come at the place from a certain direction to be able to park." And with that, there are a few more moments of driving before she's parking in front of a small supermarket, "There's apparently a little place around the side of the building here where they have various food trucks, and I'd heard of one I wanted to try." |
| Adora Rainbowfist | "I don't know, she seems like someone who would probably be pretty busy a lot of the time. She's very smart, and smart people are always in high demand." The comments do have Adora smiling though. "They both are great people though, I'm glad that they're my friends." She'll have to meet up and hang out with them again soon! And hang out with Ami in a non-study kind of way, too! "Oh uh. It was a feather bed... thingy. And i was trying to de-fluff it by giving it a few good whacks with my fists to get it a little less fluffed up and uh. It kind of tore and sent feathers flying everywhere. I don't think I was hitting that hard though, so it might have already been old or something." There was a story! It was probably less of a story than Setsuna expected, though. "It's a bit... awkward still, but I've been kind of out of my element for a while since joining the princess alliance and leaving the horde, so I guess I kind of went through this already in a way?" Weird navigation aid directions aside, it seemed they safely made it to their destination. Adora hadn't been paying that much attention to the driving since she was more talking awkwardly at Setsuna, really. "A food truck... I am assuming it is a truck that food is served out of, not a truck made of food." Though she wouldn't be surprised if it was the latter too. There's a lot of all sorts of quirky food places in Tokyo. |
| Setsuna Meiou | As Setsuna leads Adora around the side of the building, she'll see that it is indeed a truck one serves food out of rather than a truck made of food. And Setsuna indicates as much, though she does add, "...though given this is Japan, I wouldn't put it past someone to have made a truck out of food sometime just because." She shakes her head, "...though to be fair, if they did, it was probably as some kind of art piece or something." As the two approach, the theme of this particular food truck seems to be Tex-Mex food, as it advertises itself as '440 Broadway Taco Shop'. A sign on the side (with helpful pictures) advertizes the various offerings of Burritos, Burrito bowls, Nachos, Quesadillas, Tacos, Chips, and sodas. Setsuna pauses a short distance away and waits for Adora to move to her side before providing a bit of explaination, "So most of the food they have here involves something called a tortilla. It's a piece of flatbread, usually round." She then points to each of the things on the menu, "Tacos are smaller tortillas that are just folded in half and filled with some meat, a bit of other things for flavor and maybe some cheese. They're fairly small and usually several of them are eaten for a meal. Now over there are Burritos, which use a much larger tortilla and generally similar ingridents to the tacos, though often with beans or rice as well and wrapped up completely so that it's kind of a fully-contained sandwich. Finally, you have quesadillas, which are like really big tacos, but with more cheese and fried to stick together better before being cut into slices for eating." She waves at the menu, "Pick a few things you'd like to try. We'll have some lunch here and you can take the rest back to your room for snacking later." |
| Adora Rainbowfist | There is a bit of a squint from Adora as she looks towards Setsuna. "Are you some sort of mind reader or something? Is that why you're such a good nurse? Because I literally just thought that." Suspicious staring is definitely occuring. "...Well okay not the art piece part but the rest of it." Soon they were at the food truck. "Huh. That's kind of a ... weird name. Almost more like an address than a name." She says. Right in front of said truck. It's fine. Probably. They probably get that comment a lot. The explanation of the food is getting nods from Adora. And not the 'not absorbing any of this information' kind of nodding. She's absorbing the information. It's related to food. She's pretty attentive with food. And then she's instructed to order a couple of things! "Well. Hm." She decides to order... a couple of tacos (One chicken and one beef), a pork burrito, and a chicken quesadilla. And for a beverage, she... starts to ask about the alcolholic beverages, before she is corrected that those are for adults and orders an orange juice instead. |
| Setsuna Meiou | Setsuna raises a hand to cover a giggle, "While I'd love to claim psychic powers, it's more down to a combination of knowing how things are here in Japan, how those from outside Japan tend to react to it...and the fact that you actually said that out loud under your breath and I have excellent hearing." After Adora makes her order, Setsuna steps up and engages the young hispanic man manning the window in a short bout of conversation in Spanish, much to his pleasant surprise. There's a short bit of back and forth, then Setsuna puts in what is apparently a somewhat complex order before handing over her card to pay for both her and Adora's orders. And in fairly short order, three bags are being handed over, one to Adora and two to Setsuna, who then leads Adora off to a small spot just next to the truck with a few bench seats, napkin holders and the like. Apparently she got herself a beef taco and a burrito of some stripe, "So let's see if they're up to their reputation..." And apparently...they are! |
| Adora Rainbowfist | "Or you're just obfuscating your psychic powers behind psychology and knowledge." Adora says. Even if she's kind of still doing the (playfully) suspicious squinting at Setsuna. A suspiciousness that is stopped by the time Adora gets her food because, well. ...Nobody that feeds her can be evil. Not truly. So it's fine, even if she /is/ possibly psychic. Also she might have been distracted by the spanish, because it was a new and interesting language and she was just listening to that. She'd heard a few languages here and there since Radiant Heart was such a huge academy, but that was different than listening to a conversation for a few moments. And then they had food! Adora sits down on the bench and immediately starts to go after her tacos. "I am sure that they do probably. Reputations are a thing that people earn, after all!" ...She was eating pretty quickly, but it was at a reasonable pace. Not the super fast 'acting like she's never eaten a day in her life and choking on it' pace. ...She'd been somewhat broken of that by Glimmer and Bow before while living in Brightmoon. She absolutely was intending to eat the rest of it and just save the burrito for later, because it sounded like the thing that would reheat later best. Comments on how good or bad it is are left off. There are, however, non-verbal cues of how she enjoys the food. Like licking fingers clean of sauces and such. |
| Setsuna Meiou | Setsuna is making those appreciative noises right along with Adora, interspersed with the occasional sip from her can of Coca Cola. She smiles to see the ease with which Adora is relaxing now...a far cry from the young woman from back then who couldn't sleep because her matress was too soft. Once conversation is possible again, Setsuna absently waves a hand to indicate more or less the world at large, "So...were there any questions about things that you had? Anthing you were wanting to know now that you've got more of a handle on things?" |
| Adora Rainbowfist | Are there any questions about things. Hm. Adora takes another bite of her quesadilla, her tacos having already been long devoured. "...Why are there no beastfolk on this world? It's actually weird that I haven't seen many, even though there's clearly some sort of traces of them having existed at some point from the way people wear cat ear headbands and stuff." Seriously she can't think of any other beastfolk she's seen here other than Catra. And also she knows Scorpia is around... everyone else has just been human which is fine and all but not seeing the occasional beastfolk is really weird, really. "Also the magic thing. Why do people just. Not seem to remember it? Is it some weird curse or something? Do I need to be on the hunt for a memory-wiping monster of doom?" Sure, people had /mentioned/ the Veil but it's different to, well... it being explained properly. |
| Setsuna Meiou | Setsuna continues absently sipping her drink as Adora asks, "Well, to the best of my knowlege, there never have actually been any beastfolk...though certain legends and myths have mentioned things that are rather adjacent...and there are a few curses that cause people to turn into animals or animal hybrids." She shrugs, "Perhaps on your world those curses mutated into something more permanent that could be passed down to children." When the Veil is brought up, she sighs, "One might call it a curse, I suppose. One laid THOUSANDS of years ago by a VASTLY powerful artefact." She sighs, "...so it's less a memory wiping monster and more a general field that only affects those who are not magically aware and causes them to find ways to explain away any instances of true magic they might see as mundane things, or illusions or trickery." |
| Adora Rainbowfist | "...That's really strange, but I guess very few of the animals here really overlap too so it makes sense at the same time... my world is a world of magic and technology heavily influenced by an ancient civilization... this one is too I think? But different." Adora says thoughtfully. Hmmmm. The gears are starting to turn in her head but also might be overheating. It's fine. Probably. "...Well, at least I don't have to worry about a memory-erasing monster... just ancient artifacts, and I'm used to those, I mean I'm literally wearing one right now." Adora glances at the bracer that she was wearing the Sword of Power in the form of. "...Just ways to keep magic under wraps so that the wrong people don't find out as often, I guess? ... Oh well, if it's ancient like that, people probably have already tried to find and deactivate it." That and she didn't really have to worry about it for a while yet. |
| Setsuna Meiou | Setsuna takes a moment to police up her trash, then grabs Adora's discards as well and tosses them into the nearby wastebasket. Standing up, she gets her bag of what appears top be several burritos that she's takign home wit her, "No, just several other kinds of monster and whatnot...for which I'm glad we have you helping us keep them in check." She looks back over at Adora, "...but, in any event, I think we should get you back to the school before it gets too late...and I need to bring dinner to my housemates as well." She pauses for a moment, then nods as if to herself, "That all said, don't be a stranger. Feel free to visit the infirmary sometime...and especially if you manage to get hurt. It's why I'm there, after all." And with that, she leads the younger woman back to the waiting car and light conversation along the way before dropping her off at the dorms, "Have a good evening, Adora-chan." |
