Entrapta The bus stops in front of the Museum of Penguin Park. Which, i should note, is not entirely about penguins. But we can't all be entirely accurate. For example, the bus lets nobody off. It pauses as if forgetting why exactly it'd stopped, then the doors close and it moves on toward the next location on its map.

Roughly half a block away it seems to jerk as if the driver has just been assaulted, and pulls back over to the wrong curb. The doors open again, this time at an unprofessional angle and someone steps out. "Well how was I to know that you have a time limit for egress? You need to educate the public, sir! I was ...."

The bus doors close and it speeds away, leaving the purple-haired female (not Japanese) to frown at the apparent rudeness. "By all standards, I think that was an affront to standard social norms," she says, uncertainty in tone and form. Then she turns, looking at the museum.

Which is not where it was supposed to be when she gets off the bus. She looks left, looks right, and then rubs the top of her head with apparent loss of spatial locational awareness. "This..is not the entryway. Well, it's AN entryway...I suppose it will have to do!"

She walks down the stairwell into the lower section and immediately gets lost in the museum, having entered through the service entryway.

About ten minutes later she's in the air vents, looking out. "Excuse me, are you able to jimmy this loose? I seem to be stuck." Madame Maryam may well be startled, but ...really, this is Mahou. Did you expect a knock on the door?
NPC Maryam Siddig By all accounts, Maryam ''is'' startled - having been sitting in her office, completing paperwork regarding visitor tallys, cost of artifact care, and security costs, all to continue justifying the museum expenditures that the exhibit brought upon the small local museum. Thankfully, they continued to make up their budget and then some, in part thanks to an influx of schools using the site for field trips.

In spite of all common (or more accurately, uncommon) sense, she's not expecting a Mahou to drop in on her... and yet that seems to be exactly what's happening.

"Ah, would you happen to be stuck as in, due to the vent being locked, or...?"

Even as she asks the question, she's standing to nove towards the vent, removing from a unobtrusive toolkit a screwdriver. Within a few minutes, the vent is unceremoniously removed ...after clearing the area immediately under and around it of fragile objects.
Entrapta There's a talent in managing to trip over the one object not moved out of your way. The purple-haired female who slides out of the venting (that should not have been possible) manages it. She comes out head-first, rolls in a move that suggests 'vent exiting' is on her skill list, and then proves that 'walking normally' is clearly NOT.

Stumble. Trip over her own hair, which makes her yelp in an inappropriately unequal measure to the damage done by that minor misstep, and then she's falling against Maryam with a weird Uncanny Valley level of human motion.

"I am never going to get used to this gravity," she says with a grumble. "But it has made certain experiments much more viable! So, positives are to be found as well as the negatives! Do i know you?"

She looks Maryam over, tilting her head left and right, left and right. "Not a joke, i have no idea if we've met or not. I seem to have some forms of mental disorders according to several people in my social circle."
NPC Maryam Siddig There really is a talent in managing to trip over the only item that ''wasn't'' removed from her path - a chair that was slightly pushed out of the way, but which had seemed impossible to fall over. She shouldn't underestimate mahou shoujo - a lesson for the future!

"You're not used to this gravity?" She asks, curious and interested. "Are you one of the mahoujin from another world?"

She's heard legends all her life, read accounts, and now, over these last few weeks, met with those from other worlds, but there's still something wonderful about it.

The question of 'Do I know you?' earns a little laugh. "No, no you do not. I hope that the people speculating about your mental disorders are being friendly and kind about it. My name is Dr. Maryam Siddig, and I am a curator here at the museum."
Entrapta There's a pause after the doctor speaks, almost as if the young woman is processing data that overloads her banked memory. Her eyes look left, then right, then return to the older woman with a smile.

"Let's see. Some of that was almost a question, and I've found that I should treat it as one though it wasn't phrased so. Still, I love a person who is inquisitive and will generally give the benefit of phrasing!" She beams, then turns about and looks at the room.

"Mahoujin are generally magical girls, or boys. I have no such situational magic, but for some reason I'm included under the umbrella so in a limited scope I would seem to be. Another world is easier to quantify. Yes!"

She picks up a cup that says 'kiss the cook' and has clearly no idea how it functions, closing one eye and peering at it oddly.

"Curator. A keeper or custodian of a museum or other collection. Noun. I was looking at historically significant items on this world and my search led me locally. Apparently your scientific rigor is sufficient to draw in creative and logical minds. Is there some way or fashion in which I can assist?"
NPC Maryam Siddig Maryam watches Entrapta look about the room, picking up a novelty cup and staring into it, and is quietly amused. "I can only hope you're enjoying our world then. Would it be acceptable for you to share your name?"

This is not a requirement - she won't demand it of the young lady - but it would be nice, to have a name to refer to her with.

"Many of your peers have used the objects here to learn that the upper age limit of magic - a phenomenon they've told me your generation has dubbed 'the Fade', is, if not an artificially constructed limit, then a manipulated one, and are looking for ways to circumvent that. I - but most especially your peers - would appreciate if you ''could'' help them with that."
Entrapta Entrapta opens her mouth, then seems to reconsider. "Name, name name name," she says as if trying to recall which to use, or translate the rules surrounding them in this particular situation. Which is true, but not really worth explaining. "Enissa!" she emits, after glancing at her phone for advice. The phone, which helped out without being requested to do so.

huh.

"I wasn't aware that they were working on it," she continues. "Why does nobody come to me when they do research? It's literally my one way that I can assist with magical related situations! Here," she says. Then she leans over and gets her phone out.

Maryam's printer activates, connected to remotely. "How much information do you need? I have almost eighty terabytes of data on magical studies, almost all types. Dark magic is limited due to the danger involved in actually getting your hands dirty, but I can work with it if needed. The Fade has ties to all of them, it's a form of interactive current..."

Yep. Just goes right into it. No waiting.
NPC Maryam Siddig "Enissa-san," Maryam says, immediately polite in a way that probably truly means nothing to the girl. "I'm afraid I can't say why they didn't involve you sooner, though, my guess would be that your friends are only still pulling pieces together, and trying to figure out what they know, let alone who might best put that knowledge to use."

Here? The question is answered when the printer activates all on it's own and Maryam quickly realizes that Enissa-san is doing the activating, "While I'd welcome any and all information you're willing to share, I believe Chiba-san and Terios-san are doing the most to coordinate efforts at research. I've, admittedly, been sharing what I have with your peers, as the records of magic ''is'' the history of mahoujin as we have proof of."

Oh the sciences are not really her strong suit, save for when it comes to methods of preservation,,, an interactive current?

"So the Fade is... a current that acts on the... magical signature, of mahoujin?"
Entrapta "Well, it would rather have to be," Entrapta says in that 'oh so this is logic' tone of voice. "If you have any single one-to-one effect, it can be pretty variable. But when you have a potentially unlimited amount of affected variables, you have to have a broad field in effect."

Put that way it does sort of make sense. But it's still pretty vague. "Here," she says, then prints up a venn diagram including all the types of magic she knows of.

Apparently this girl knows a lot of magics! There's even a few listed that are only suggestions. But the overlap areas are huge. "Consider this. Now, draw a circle around it all," she does so with a marker taken out of her hair. "These continuums are already powerful. Some of them encompass a good portion of the universe. We know from experimentation and previous knowledge that the more widespread an energy type is, say the strong nuclear force, it functions on everything but only in very small radii."

She draws a line between two, any two.

"That can be extremely hard to overcome, the connection between two mahou. But take something that encompasses it all? That's closer the the gravitic force of the universe, all-encompassing but in general the weakest force in standard science. Forces that cover larger areas are inherently more vulnerable. That's how it generally works, right now it's just a theory though."
NPC Maryam Siddig Does Maryam know, very well, what Enissa-san is talking about? Not... really, is the honest answer - but she's listening, and trying to meet halfway, particularly because this is important to the magical community as a whole. Still, the idea of the Fade as a current with a broad affect, so it can impact so many different... variation of magic... that makes sense.

She leans into take note of the venn diagram being drawn, which includes a wide quantity of magics. It doesn't surprise her that she doesn't recognize all of them, though she does hum thoughtfully at the circle drawn around all of it.

"So... the Fade, strongly covers all of these areas, which means it's inherently more vulnerable? Because it encompasses all of these?"

She's... not sure if she's drawing the right conclusion, but it's important to understand it all.

"That would make sense, given that it has to be something widely applicable, that still has a weakness - it doesn't impact the Dark Energy that the enemy uses..."
Entrapta Entrapta pauses, squinting. "It doesn't? I had no idea..." She trails off, frowning. "Well, if that's the case...Look, it's easy to overcome global effects situationally. You overcome gravity every time you stand up. But that's a small scale power applied to a larger less focused force. Does that make sense?"

She runs her hand over a tendril of her hair, almost lovingly. "Dark energy being exempt has certain concepts it brings into play. The Fade encompasses new magics when they emerge, like Eternian magic arriving on earth. So the Fade not being affected means an applied force on it specifically. Local, focused. Maybe the Fade was written to not include it, but it's unlikely because of how it easily grabs hold of anything new that appears. Not logical."

She looks at her phone. "Consider a field that protects it, it'd have to flow through the Dark Magic spectrum pushing away the Fade. That's the most likely reason why they're immune. Not the only option though. There could be something about Dark that's anathema to the Fade's rules set. Easiest solution, and the simplest are often correct." Then she sighs. "I should find a way to make the Fade ineffective on the girls even if it gets messed with. What's the actual problem at hand? I don't know enough."
NPC Maryam Siddig "So what you're saying is, a force might be easily overcome, but not easily destroyed. Standing partially defeats gravity's pressure to keep you down, but it doesn't destroy the concept of gravity, or change that gravity is still in effect."

She contemplates this, trying to apply the logic and see what it is that intuitively comes to Enissa-san. Dark Energy could be opposed to what makes the Fade, as you said... or perhaps it could be something else. Terios-san and Chiba-san would, I imagine, be best for connecting you to knowledge on the problem. I believe they've mentioned a young man who tampered with one of my artifacts, who may be involved?"
Entrapta "Hmm. I don't track names very well," Entrapta admits without malice or measure. "I really only notice SCIENCE!" That gets a fist pump in the air, almost by default. Though really she wonders idly if there are situations where memorizing names or faces might be useful.

Well, that's another problem. "I can reach out to...did you get those names, Penelope?" She glances at her phone again, and it lights up green in the affirmative. "Those people, right." She beams at having found a work-around and immediately tries to lean against a wall to look cool.

She misses the wall by misjudging the angle and falls flat on her side, looking almost comical in the attempt. But, I mean. She's okay. Probably.

A moment later she's standing again, nothing to see here. "Suppose that's the worst of it though. Fascinating problems, really. I love a challenge. Want me to cc you on anything I find, doctor?" She leaves 'doctor Siddig' off, but we all know why at this point. She's probably already forgotten.

No offense, it's entirely her.
NPC Maryam Siddig "Perhaps science could assist you with that?" Maryam suggests casually, "A program of some sort, that cross references name, role, and what you know them from."

Why try a futile effort to change the girl, when one could instead seek to aid her? If Enissa cannot recall names and faces, a possible solution could be supplementing her with something that ''can''.

...and then she falls right to the ground with a thud that should jar bone but seems only to mar pride, and Maryam struggles not to smile as the girl hurriedly returns to her feet as thought that didn't happen.

"I would appreciate that, thank you. Here is my card, Enissa-san."
Entrapta There's a drawn-out sigh, and 'Enissa' nods. "I'm actually constantly working on algorithms to do such types of sorting. Penelope has dozens of them, constantly evolving..."

She pauses. Then looks at the card being offered to her. Lifts it up, and looks at it through the light. Glances back to the Doctor, and back to the card as if it's an alien artifact.

"Well. That also works. I wonder why nobody else has ....cards. Fascinating." She scans it with her phone, then tucks the card into her ...hair. It vanishes like into a dimensional pocket.

Then she smiles so wide that her eyes seem to nearly vanish, and turns to walk away.

"Penelope, make a note. I need 'cards'. No, not that kind. I don't even know what 'Hallmark' is. Is it importa...no? Okay, then. You know my priorities. Let's get started." As she opens a door, and walks through it.

Um. Enissa? You just walked into a closet. That isn't an exit.

"..where am I now?"

Sigh.
