Normal Luchtime Conversations
Date of Scene: 18 July 2023
Location: Administrative Office
Synopsis: Kyouka and Setsuna sit down and have lunch together.
Cast of Characters: Kyouka Inai, Setsuna Meiou

Kyouka Inai has posed:
Around lunchtime at RHA, and it's not just the students who need to eat. Sure, sometimes faculty pull lunchtime duty and have to go hang out in the cafeteria or classrooms in order to keep an eye on the students as they eat, but aside from those unlucky few they get to go have their own lunch in the well-appointed faculty room/break room, located in the administrative section of campus.

It's there on this particular day that Kyouka Inai, Guidance Couneslor, finds herself going to eat. She doesn't really have any 'friends' among the faculty, owing to a combination of factors- largely that she is considerably younger than most of the other teachers, being only 23, and a new hire on top of that. Add in her generally casual, some might day undignified demeanor and the mostly stuffy and rule-respecting teachers aren't exactly flocking to sit and talk to her.

It doesn't really bother her that much, most of the time. She enters carrying a plastic bag which looks like it came from a convenience store, the contents more a hodgepodge of snacks than any kind of actual meal. She's wearing her usual work clothes which consist of a button-down white woman's dress shirt tucked into pressed black slacks. The sleeves of the shirt are rolled up to just below her elbows, and the first button of the collar is undone- far from scandalous, but in the notoriously stuffy world of Japanese schools she no doubt appears downright casual.

Finding an empty table with a few chairs around it, she drops down into one of them and begins pulling items out of the plastic bag, piling them in front of her.

Setsuna Meiou has posed:
Ah, lunch. Once upon a time for a teacher or staff member of a school, it meant trying to reheat something you brought from home and hope it comes out the other side still edible. Now, however, due to the wonders of modern technology, one can simply and easily have food delivered straight to one's door from any huge number of places!

Thus it is that when the school's nurse, Setsuna Meiou, perhaps the only member of the staff that's YOUNGER than Kyouka at a mere 20, walks in...she's carrying what is obviously a pizza box with several other smaller boxes on top of it. A bag with something small but heavy hangs from her elbow...and in her off hand, she's absently rolling a pen across her knuckles.

She's currently wearing...well, it's hard to tell. There's hints of a teal blouse right at her collar, but the white labcoat she wears goes almost all the way down to her knees, so it might as well be her dress.

A glance is given around at all the other teachers eating, and after a moment, she gives a little shrug, she walks over to the table Kyouka had just sat down at and asks, "Mind if I join you? Most of the rest seem to be taken."

Kyouka Inai has posed:
Kyouka was aware of Setsuna's existence of course, and the two had likely crossed paths in the hallways a couple of times, though as of yet nothing that could be called a true conversation had been had. If the guidance counselor is annoyed at having some of her table real-estate taken away, she doesn't show it. Ash-grey eyes glance up at the nurse, and she gives a crooked smile which shows just a hint of slightly-too-sharp canine tooth. "Not at all. Have a seat, Meiou-san." She gestures graciously at one of the other seats at the table, as she pulls her individually-wrapped food items closer to herself to make room.

It looks like there are some various pre-made sandwiches, what looks like a pastry of some kind, and perhaps in at least a bare-minimum nod to health, a bannana. There's also some kind of coffee energy drink in a tall can, which she takes and cracks open with one hand while she waits for Setsuna to settle herself.

Setsuna Meiou has posed:
Setusna smiles, "Thank you." Having been given permission, she settles down in one of the other chairs, then opens her pizza box and slides it over a little bit with a nod, "Please, feel free to help yourself if you want some." Looks like she went for a half pepperoni, half supreme deep dish square pizza. She opens one of the other boxes, and it looks like it's some kind of white sauce pasta dish in a bread bowl which the younger woman sets into.

Between bites she says, "Truth be told, I got way too much, but they were doing a special and I just kind of let my stomach make the decisions." With her free hand, she also pulls out an energy drink of some kind...the can to this one's very...America, though. Red, white and blue stripes and all the lettering is in English. If one reads the language, they can see it's apparently called 'Rip-It'.

Kyouka Inai has posed:
Kyouka eyes the pizza as it is offered to her. The temptation is obvious, but perhaps so as not to appear a complete boor she doesn't immediately seize a piece but instead tears open one of her pre-packaged sandwiches. "Thank you," She says, with a smile, before taking a bite. Oh, there will be pizza consumed, but she's going to make it look like she isn't desperate for it. She has some dignity, at least.

"You don't have to tell me about that," Kyouka replies to the comment about stomach decisions, her tone dry. She has been known in the past to let her hunger dictate her actions, generally to poor results. She likes to think she's better about it than she used to be. But maybe that isn't saying much. "It's nice to finally get to talk to you," She says after taking another bite of sandwich and swallowing it down. "As the two newest hires, I feel like we should at least compare notes." A playful wink. Kyouka's entire demeanor is very laid back, her words carrying a touch of what could only be called 'the street', as if she spent more time hanging out on streetcorners than in a classroom. Very likely true, but equally unlikely of someone hired to be a teacher of any sort.

Setsuna Meiou has posed:
Setsuna nods a little, "Not making bad decisions on an empty stomach is half the reason I keep a stash of candy bars in the office. Should have made use of them." She glances at her food, hrms, shrugs, "Physician, heal thyself indeed." She then looks over at Kyouka...then pointedly at the much older rest of the staff before saying in a softer, more conspiratorial voice, "...yes, well, there's also the fact that you and I are apparently on one side of a rather diffeent different divide as well...which means our notes will perhaps be a bit different from the rest of them, hrmmm?"

She's talking about the apparent age divide...but, well...once other things become apparent, it's an easy enough comment to misinterpret.

Nodding to herself, "Frankly so far, I've just been enjoying the chance to relax. Right now all the students are on their best behavior and being ultra careful because it's a new year and new school...but before long everyone will get used to things and start getting careless and then it'll be more than just the occasional scuff or scrape to take care of."

Kyouka Inai has posed:
While not all the other teachers are old fogies, there's probably at least a 10-year age gap between Kyouka and the next-youngest actual teacher- normally one has to go to college and get all sorts of degrees to be a teacher, do student teaching, etc. Obviously, Kyouka did none of this. She's not an actual teacher in the sense that she's not teaching classes (outside of self-defense, which is more like a specialized PE class than anything else), but it's still curious.

When Setsuna murmurs to her in that conspiratorial way, Kyouka's brow arches, but she grins a little bit, saying in return, "I had been meaning to ask you about that. Are you new around these parts? I grew up here, but I don't believe I know you prior to seeing you at school."

This also might seem an odd thing to say- Tokyo is a city with tens of millions of people in it, so being 'from the area' really doesn't mean you should have met someone before. However, in the context of magical girls- Kyouka was doing the mahou thing before the population explosion. In her day there were maybe a dozen mahous in Tokyo, and she thought she knew them all. She can sense some form of magic from Setsuna (strange enough as it is, if she is really 20), but doesn't recognize her from the past, which makes her wonder.

Setsuna Meiou has posed:
Truth be told, Setsuna really hasn't done any of the degrees or certifications for being a teacher, either...but her records SAY she has...and she's got enough medical training to fake that part well enough that nobody's looked too hard. Not that that really matters. She's had a LONG time to build her cover identities, after all.

At Kyouka's question, the other woman gives a slight grunt as she chews, absently gesturing with her fork as she chews before going on, "More or less. I'm..." She trails off for a moment, "...quite a long way from where I started..." After a beat more she gives herself a little shake, "...but given recent events and circumstances, it looks like I'll be settling down here."

Given that one of the most significant 'recent events' is whatever sparked the explosion of magical girls...well...

Kyouka Inai has posed:
It's also somewhat unlikely that, at least outside of extreme circumstances, there are going to be any serious medical issues at the school. It could happen, to be sure, but in the day to day, a moderate level of medical training is surely enough to cover most of what shows up at the infirmary. Probably some of those injuries result from Kyouka's self-defense classes, come to think of it.

"Ah.. I figured as much." Kyouka nods her head as Setsuna confirms that she 'ain't from around here', this fitting in with her suspicions. And in itself, is not terribly weird, as Kyouka is well aware of the Headmistress' agenda regarding gathering mahous and support staff to this academy.

"Can I ask what brought you here in the first place?" She asks, as she takes another bite of sandwich, the first almost gone. "Just the job?" Dancing around the real questions, but one doesn't just come out and say, 'why u magic' on a first meeting, in a public room.

Setsuna Meiou has posed:
Frankly, Setsuna's of the belief that the most she'll ever be practically required to do will be to set a bone or maybe a few stitches. She's well aware that 99% of her job is going to be applying bandaids and handing out, as her acquaintance and contact for certain supplies calls 'Vitamin M'. ie Motrin/Ibuprofin. Still, the job gives her plenty of down time to get other things done, which makes it ideal.

Kyouka's question gets her to pause and think for a moment before chuckling, "...kind of the opposite. Had a job that ended because the need for it suddenly went away...I was at loose ends and...well, this showed up." She shrugs, "So here I am." She pauses again, thinking, "...not that I really NEED the work...but I'm keeping my eyes open as a favor to an old boss who's long gone."

Truth be told, she's being more open than she really realizes...but despite having picked up a lot of little tricks over the many, many, MANY boring years...she's had PRECIOUS little chance to socialize with anyone...much less someone of her own apparent age.

Kyouka Inai has posed:
"Must be nice." Kyouka mutters in response to 'not needing the work', although there's no sense that she's being salty at Setsuna in particular, more just the realities of life. "It's kind of the same for me." She then says, in a more cheerful tone, as she reaches for another of her sandwiches and pulls the wrapper off. "My old gig kinda went away, as things tend to do after a while, and I wasn't sure what I was gonna do with myself, until I got offered this one."

She shrugs as she takes a bite, swallows, then continues, "The Headmistress here sought me out particularly. Seems I have a particular set of skills she was adamant were needed here." A glance around, at the seething masses of magic she (at least) can detect in the vicinity (not that there are /that/ many mahous at the school compared to the overall population of students, but relative to anywhere else, there's no other way to describe it). "I'd say she was right."

It helps in being open that Kyouka has a natural charisma about her- despite a somewhat rough and tumble demeanor which evokes nothing so much as a delinquent or street hustler, her easy smiles and 'hey, I get it' sort of attitude go a long way towards making her likable- even when someone is really resistant to the idea that she should be. Probably a good attribute for a counselor to have.

Setsuna Meiou has posed:
Setsuna's still lost in thought a bit, but absently replies, "...heh...there are times I thought that last job of mine would go on forever..." She trails off, then after a moment, gives herself a little shake to return to the here-and-now. Absently, she ponders what time it is...and, due to her binding to the Gates, suddenly knows.

To someone paying attention, that connection she has to whatever just vibrated a little...like someone plucking a string.

As she finishes her bread bowl, she closes the now-empty box and shakes her head, "...look at me being all meloncholy." She smirks a bit and looks over, "Well, I'll admit this is a school that I can't say as I've ever quite seen it's like..." She then glances over at the other teachers, "...so I suppose it's no wonder they'd want some members of the staff to be...different as well."

Of course, she means 'apparently younger' rather than 'mundane'...

Frowning slightly at the sound of a teacher with a voice that naturally projects, Setsuna absently glances at her watch, "We've still got plenty of time and my office is around the corner...would you like to adjourn to someplace quieter for the rest of lunch?"

Kyouka Inai has posed:
Kyouka's magic-sense is potent, but not particularly fine-tuned. She can sniff out someone who is magic, or a big magic fight, from a significant distance, but details about the type of magic or what the magic is actually doing are not something she can usually detect. At most, she is capable of telling the difference between someone using regular magic or Dark Energy- it smells different.

"There's a plan going on here," Kyouka agrees, a vague gesture of one hand meaning 'the school at large', "and I'm not sure I have the whole picture yet. The Headmistress likes to keep a good bit close to her chest. But I'm working on figuring it out." She nods her head a few times, reaching for a bag of shrimp-flavored chips and pulling them open to crunch on a few.

At the question of moving venue, Kyouka shrugs her shoulders. "I don't mind. If we can bring the pizza."

Setsuna Meiou has posed:
Setsuna smiles, "But of course." She quickly boxes her stuff up, tosses her empty box, then gathers her things and heads out of the room. As she goes, it can be noted that, unlike perhaps every nurse most people have known (who, as a rule, tend to favor the most comfortable shoes possible), the green haired woman seems completely comfortable walking around in 3in heels. She quickly leads around the corner to the infirmary where, as she approaches, she holds up her watch and speaks into it, "Niti...please open the door for me." A quiet reply of, "Certainly Nurse Meiou." can be heard from the watch, then there's an audible click and the door swings open ahead of you.

The pizza box is deposited on a counter, as Setsuna turns to Kyouka, "Please, make yourself at home in my fair abode."

And yeah, the infirmary is as overappointed as a lot of the Academy. All the latest gadgets can be spotted here and there. Meanwhile, Setsuna walks over to one of the cabinets and retrieves some napkins, which she sets down next to the pizza box.

Kyouka Inai has posed:
Kyouka stuffs the remainder of her items back into the plastic bag after getting rid of the opened wrappers, then follows. She's wearing black leather loafers. If she's ever been in a heel in her life, there are no witnesses. Kyouka observes the apparent security of the infirmary, involving a smart watch or something. "Neat." is her comment, though she doesn't add more. Perhaps it makes sense, given that no-doubt medications and the like are stored within.

Kyouka drops her bag on the counter before slumping into a convenient chair. At least she doesn't put her foot up on something, like she might in her own office. "Pretty fancy." She comments, looking around. "Do you actually get to use all this stuff? Seems a bit like overkill for handing out bandaids and taking temperatures."

Setsuna Meiou has posed:
Setsuna wavewaves a hand dismissively, "To be fair, not really. I think it was put together with the philosophy of 'better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it'." She pauses, then gives a bit of a sardonic grin, "...plus I imagine there's a bit of showmanship involved...so that they can claim we have the best, most state-of-the art facilities or what have you." After another moment, she shrugs, "Frankly, aside from bandages, gauze, and ibuprofin for a few scrapes here and there, the bit I've gotten the most use from is the really fancy rig over in the corner that measures height, weight, other various body measurements, blood pressure, temperature, O2 saturation, heartbeat, and half a dozen other little things by getting them to stand on a plate, put a clip on their finger and running a lightbar around them. Gets all that stuff and takes about twelve seconds. It's gonna save me SOOOOOO much work when we have to start filtering all the kids through here for their annual physicals."

She leans against one of the other counters, and begins absently spinning a pen through the fingers of her left hand, "How about you? I imagine that most of your work's gonna come on the back half of the year."

Kyouka Inai has posed:
"I guess that's fair." Kyouka agrees without much consternation to the philosophy of 'better to be prepared'. After all, its the kids' health we're talking about here. If the school can afford fancy equipment, might as well have it. She listens to the description of the machine which takes all the vitals and such, quirking her brows. "Sounds like it more or less does your job for you." She says, a somewhat teasing tone in her voice. "Do they make one that does my job too? If so I'd like to place an order. I'm sure the school can afford it."

Kyouka shrugs her shoulders when actually asked about her work. "I mean, I teach the self-defense classes. And I have a.. special list of students that I need to keep tabs on." The ones she has confirmed as magical or significant, she means. "The Headmistress was pretty strightforward as to the nature of my particular responsibilities. There are other guidance counselors for the stuff like picking careers or dealing with puberty issues."

Setsuna Meiou has posed:
Setusna shrugs, "Ehhh...kinda, but not quite? I mean, it automates a good nice chunk of the job...but until they manage to make a robot that can clean a wound, set a bone, and stich a laceration shut, I don't think I'll have to worry." She pauses, thinking of some articles she's seen, "...well, until they can make one that does that without trying get everyone killed, at least..."

As Kyouka describes her particular focus, the green haired woman tilts her head, "...special list? Troublemakers?" A logical assumption for someone who's qualified to teach self defense, one supposes. She then frowns slightly, "...or perhaps trouBLED students instead?" Because there are always a few that need more help.

Kyouka Inai has posed:
"Yeah, well, I'll believe they can make a robot that does stuff without trying to get everyone killed as soon as I believe they can make a /person/ like that, and so far I'm still waiting for one to appear." Kyouka says, with dry humor.

She then shakes her head as Setsuna mentions troublemakers, saying, "Some of them, sure. And troubled, also, yes usually. Suffice it to say that there are students at this school with... special needs. Or perhaps I should say talents not covered by the usual array of math and literature classes. I'm here for them." She touches a finger to her forehead in a kind of salute, as if to say, 'at your service'.

Setsuna Meiou has posed:
It's another case of what's been happening the whole conversation. The author Spider Robinson once called it 'rupture', that moment when one realizes that they and the person they've been talking to have been having two completely unrelated conversations at the same time without realizing it.

Things aren't there yet, but the moment is rapidly approaching.

For when Kyouka points at her forehead...she unkowingly points to that spot where a senshi's planetary mark will shine in times of stress.

Perhaps more telling is Setsuna's reaction. While her expression doesn't noticably change, there's a noticable stutter in the pattern of the pen rolling across her left hand...and there's a small flare of magic as, concealed by her right hand, she opens the spatial pocket where her henshin pen is stored and retrieves it. Slieght of hand tricks make her action inobvious, but there's a noticable change in magic around her as she focuses what little senses he has, curious if Kyouka is signalling she's a Senshi as well.

Kyouka Inai has posed:
Nothing's been said, but the small but significant flare of magic from Setsuna when she summons her henshin pen is obvious to Kyouka, even if the pen itself is artfully concealed by the other woman's sleight-of-hand trickery. Her grey eyes narrow slightly as they observe the nurse, although her posture remains relaxed, slumped in one of the chairs in the office as if she hasn't a care in the world.

"Sorry, did I say something weird?" She asks, one brow slowly climbing. She has no idea what Setsuna has done, or perhaps is about to do. But it's clear from her tone that she now feels as though she is perhaps sitting beside someone with a loaded gun, even if she has no idea where they might be keeping it.

Setsuna Meiou has posed:
There's an odd beat and a very subtle change to the magic around Setsuna as she pulls on her intrinsic connection to Time to alter her personal perception of it. Sometimes, just having the extra time to think can be a critical lifesaver. Thus it is that the nurse runs through the conversation in her head again...and while she's not SURE...some of those comments could have another meaning. COULD Kyouka be one of the awakened senshi?

Letting her perceptions shift back to normal, she shakes her head before going on.

It's not the kind of thing that most would catch...but to someone keeping a sharp eye on someone as if watching out for a threat, it's far more obvious how her expression almost instantly changes from intense curiousity to enforced placid calm, "...no...just remembered something not important right now." Lie.

She then reaches over and grabs a slice of pizza to eat and starts doing something that's, by this point, possibly one of her best known quirks...she goes back to absently spinning a pen through the fingers of her off hand.

Except this pen is a bit more ornate, being primarily black witha a gold cap consisting of a normal cap topped with a small ball with a canted ring arouind it...and the symbol for the planet Pluto on said ball.

And yes, it's a magical focus of some kind.

Kyouka Inai has posed:
Kyouka would be a little old to be an awakened senshi in this timeline, with the obvious exception of Setsuna herself, although like Setsuna, the possibility exists that she could be faking her age. It would be somewhat comical to end up with two different senshi playing the 'pretend to be older and get a job at the school' game at the same time, but weirder things have happened. Then again, for anyone doing any digging, Kyouka Inai has history in this town- if she's faking her age, she's done a very thorough job of fabricating past events and witnesses to them.

Not that Setsuna would know that offhand. But if she decides to look into it later, she'll find Kyouka very well-established in this city, especially among the more magically-inclined. Her eyes follow the spinning pen. It's clear she knows it is significant, although what is unclear is if she recognizes it for being specifically what it is, or just generally what it is.

"Don'tcha just hate that?" She says, with blithe unconcern, all while watching Setsuna like a hawk. "Here you are, having a perfectly pleasant conversation with your totally unremarkable co-worker, and suddenly your brain is just like, 'hey, remember that thing'?" A small, lopsided smirk, and she's quite suddenly toying with something in her own hand- it appears to be a silver zippo lighter, although where exactly it came from is an open question since she didn't seem to have it earlier. She's not opening it or using it to light anything (smoking isn't allowed on campus), just idly turning it over and over between her fingers.

Setsuna Meiou has posed:
Setsuna gives Kyouka a bit of a curious look as she finishes the square of pizza she'd picked up. Frankly, the age difference doesn't mean much to her...as she's unaware that some fundamental rules have changed between her time and now.

As for Setsuna's ID...well, it will pass pretty much every legal test around, there is very little in the way of human valiation to back it up. About the only point of contact she shows anywhere near the local area is an old Chief over at Fleet Activities Yokosuka whom she apparently gets her candy bars and energy drinks from in barter for various local delicacies.

Finally, she finishes the piece of pizza and turns her full attention on the other teacher, "...I'm begining to get the feeling that we're both dancing around something here..."

Kyouka Inai has posed:
Kyouka flicks the lighter up in the air with a musical *ping*. It spins several times, reflecting the light, before she catches it in her other hand and offers a bright smile.

"It's the magic, isn't it? Sometimes I forget other people aren't as attuned to it as I am." Blithely, as if there was never a secret at all. "But I have to admit, I'm very curious as to how you managed to avoid the Fade. I don't smell any Dark Energy around you, which is the normal way. But obviously I'm living proof that there are other options."

Her grey eyes study Setsuna as she lounges in the chair, still giving every appearance of being completely relaxed. "Still, it's a bit uncool of the headmistress not to tell me that I wasn't the only faculty member who's still in the game. I wonder what she's playing at."

Setsuna Meiou has posed:
And there it is. The moment of Rupture...as Setsuna blinks...the conversation not going quite where she'd expected AT ALL.

So poleaxed is she, in fact, that her pen goes utterly still as she regards Kyouka with an expression of utter confusion. On the one hand, the other woman just indicated that she was aware of magic...but then she references something that Setsuna WASN'T aware of.

Still looking a bit confused, she tilts her head, "...Fade?" Back during the Silver Milennium, it wasn't a thing, after all. Blame the magical cataclysm that followed the fall of the Moon...or perhaps it's just been a drift in the ways of magic over the last few thousand-odd years.

Still, Setsuna manages to get herself back to a more composed state for a moment before letting out a sigh as she realizes how you'd figured HER out, "...magical senses. Of course. I was always pants at that kind of thing."

Kyouka Inai has posed:
"It's not a common trick. But it is one in my particular wheelhouse." Kyouka says, still with that easygoing manner. Anyone who knows her well would be able to tell she isn't nearly as relaxed as she looks- plus, that zippo lighter she's toying with is actually her henshin focus, her equivalent of Setsuna's pen, although there's nothing to indicate this to someone who didn't know.

"It's one of the reasons the Headmistress keeps me employed here." She taps the side of her forehead with a finger. "I know who's magic and who isn't. I was a bit confused at first, because you're.. well, an employee, not a student. And I was under the impression I was the only Fade-dodger on the payroll. There aren't a whole lot of us, outside the Dark Energy group which is an entire other can of worms, so we tend to be pretty aware of each other."

She leans forward slightly, elbows on knees, and cocks her head at Setsuna. "But you, hunny, were totally off of my radar until you started working here. Which leads into all sorts of questions I don't really expect answers to." She smiles again. "At least, until we're better friends than we are now."

Setsuna Meiou has posed:
The look of confusion comes right back to Setsuna's face as you continue, and she lets out an audible sigh, "That's the second time you've said 'Fade' as if it's something that should mean something to me...but I'm quite afraid I have literally no idea what you mean by that in this context."

She then frowns and looks back and forth, as if to take in the whole school in a different light, "...and now I'm beginning to wonder if something about this school itself that's related to the absolutely insane explosion of magic lately..." She frowns a bit, "...frankly, I'd thought it was Destiny playing games..."

She gives Kyouka a long look, then sits down, "...I think we both have questions we want answered from the other at this point."

Kyouka Inai has posed:
"So are you, what, an alien or something, then?" Kyouka asks, with quirked brows, and the tone of voice which indicates she absolutely knows aliens exist and has met them personally. "You don't look the type, usually they're small and furry or weirdly colored, in my experience. The Fade. You know.. the law of magical nature by which all," a hesitation, then, "/most/ people with magic lose the ability to use it once they reach adulthood. It's really just a fancy name for 'aging out of the game', but as far as I know it's always been that way around here." She is, actually, only 23 years old and the Fade is much older than that.

Her eyes narrow slightly as Setsuna mentions the insane explosion of magic. "/That/, however, is something I am intensely interested in. I don't know the reason for it either, but something is clearly causing an exponential increase in the amount of magic-attuned people being activated. I've been digging, but so far I haven't found anything substantial. I'd dearly like to know if you have any hints."

Setsuna Meiou has posed:
Setsuna snorts, "No...not an alien...and I can honestly say I've never heard of this 'Fade' OR people losing their magical ability. It wasn't anything we had in...my...time..."

At first she has a slightly incredulous look about the whole concept...but then she frowns a bit in thought as she trails off

You can almost see her attention turning more and more inward...and her magic thrums again as she pulls on it...

Then suddenly the green haired woman is blinking for a moment before she starts spurting a string of what, by the tone, is probably some very harsh invective in some odd foreign language

In this case, low gutter common from the Silver Millenium.

After a few moments of that, she trails off, "...well, apparently that's a THING, now."

She gives a bit of a shake of her head to recenter herself, then goes to answer your other question, "I may or may not be able to help with the information. I'll have to check some stuff and see if anything survived there."

Kyouka Inai has posed:
Kyouka looks interested at the mention of 'my time', although the cursing in a foreign tongue doesn't elicit too much of a response- she doesnt recognize the language, but doesn't speak anything but Japanese and a little English so that doesn't automatically make it weird. But she also recognizes that she and the other woman barely know each other, and she is certainly not the type to spill all of her secrets to someone she just met, even if she's reasonably sure they are on the same side.

She gets to her feet, and shrugs her shoulders, still with that nonchalant energy. "Look, Setsuna-san. I'm not here to pry into your affairs more any more than necessary. I hope we can help each other- my primary interest is keeping these kids alive and reasonably safe. The latter may be an impossibility, but the reason I'm here is because the Headmistress judged me to have an appropriate skillset when it comes to teaching baby mahous how to survive.. whatever it is that's happening out there. And the best way for me to do that is to figure out exactly what is happening out there, preferably before it has time to evolve into a total shitstorm. Hoping I'm not already too late on that one."

"So any information you can give me would be appreciated. Now, later, whenever." Another shrug. "I'd like to think we can be friends, or at the very least, friendly co-workers. So feel free to hit me up if you need anything I can provide."

A lopsided smile. "I should get back, though. I have appointments after lunch."

Setsuna Meiou has posed:
Setsuna stands up and gives Kyouka a very serious look, "All these students are in my charge as well, and I WILL NOT let harm come to them if it can be in any way avoided."

She then sags a little in place, "...because you're right...they're all so very YOUNG..."

Another beat, then she sighs, "I'll see what I can dig up for you on my end. I have some equipment that might have recorded stuff..." She then frowns, "...but whatever happened just a little before the school opened was powerful enough to rather ruin a lot of it...so even if that doesn't DIRECTLY help...there's another data point for you."

She nods at needing to get back to the job, "...you do what you can to keep them safe and I'll do the same...and..."

She trails off and turns to give her rather overteched infirmary a more critical look, "...and I think I might be equipped to help the ones who inevitably get hurt in the process."

Kyouka Inai has posed:
Kyouka returns Setsuna's serious look, and she replies in a low voice, "I've been around this city a long time. I was doing the monster hunter magical girl thing a decade ago, before half these kids were even born. Something changed, and I can even give you an approximate time. Two years ago."

"I don't know what happened, or why. But it started two years ago, the rapid expansions of people attuned to magic, and the accompanying increase in youma incidents. This isn't as simple as a sudden population increase, it's a trend, on both sides of the equation. A paradigm shift. And until we understand what's causing it, I don't think we're going to be able to accurately predict its ramifications."

She glances around the room again, then says, "Two years ago. That's when to start looking. Also, Obsidian Corporation. I'm pretty sure they're either involved. Whether they're the cause I don't know. But I'm trying to find out."

Her hands go into her pockets as she turns to go. "Just be careful out there. School needs a nurse." She smiles again, then heads out to return to her own office.

Setsuna Meiou has posed:
Setsuna stares after the other woman for a few moments...then sighs and turns to start doing inventory on her supplies.

She's got a feeling she's going to be needing them far sooner than she thought.
