Office Hours 5 -- Naru
Date of Scene: 05 July 2023
Location: Administrative Office
Synopsis: Naru stops by and joins in a plot to capture Usagi for a meeting.
Cast of Characters: Kyouka Inai, Naru Osaka

Kyouka Inai has posed:
Whilst the more important part of her job is attending to the problems of the magical few amidst the hordes of mundane students attending RHA, Kyouka does, sometimes, have to make time for non-magical students as well. Although we may forget amidst all the drama, the number of students who are in fact active mahous at the school is extremely small compared to the number of overall students, which means that in order to keep up the appearance that she's, y'know, actually doing something, Kyouka has to see some of them too when nothing more pressing is afoot.

Perhaps that is why Naru has been summoned to the guidance office one afternoon. Perhaps it's because she forgot to turn in a career survey sheet. Perhaps it's because she's Usagi's roomate, and Usagi is of interest. Perhaps it's for another reason entirely! But it's happened regardless.

Naru Osaka has posed:
The lack of trepadation in Naru Osaka's steps as she takes herself off to the guidance office speaks to it not being an unheard of experience to end up here. In fact, she looks more as if she's tallying up her to-do list in her head as she walks rather than stressing about having been called into An Office. She does pause just outside to ensure that her blouse is straight and her skirt is smooth. It doesn't matter that Kyouka is perhaps the last teacher in the school to stress about wrinkles, some habits are deeply ingrained.

A light knocking on the door frame and a bow. "Sensei?" Naru offers, quietly enough not to startle, but she's hardly sneaking up on anyone here. "You wished to see me?" She's clearly come straight from classes, her book bag looped over her shoulder. Closed up neatly, no errant papers sticking out, no random inexplicable stains.

Kyouka Inai has posed:
Kyouka had been enjoying the break between appointments. Fact of the matter is, she's not really here for this part of the job. She recognizes it's importance in terms of keeping up appearances, but it's pretty boring compared to working with the already-magical students. She has her padded office chair tilted back on its swivel, and while she doesn't have a foot up on the desk (this time), the pose is undeniably one of casual relaxation even as she turns the chair towards the door. "Come in." She responds to the knock, sitting further upright a moment later.

Grey eyes regard the student who makes her way into the room. "Osaka-san, was it?" She casually draws in a deep breath, and if there's any similarity to an animal scenting the air surely it's just imagination. No magic on this one.. well, maybe a little residual? Perhaps close contact with someone else magical. "Please, come in and have a seat."

Naru Osaka has posed:
A waft, barly a hint of that something magical, and certainly more than easily explained by the unending stream of magic that goes on in her shared dorm room. There's probably glitter too, in a less magical illustration of precisely the level of ambient contamination going on. "Thank you." Naru gives another shallow bow and moves to perch herself on one of those comfortable arm chairs.

If she sat properly back on the chair, her feet would dangle, so she calmly perches on the edge of it, her book bag down on the floor and her hands folded in her lap. She takes a slow breath and quirks her head, curious rather than concerned, it's highly unlikely that she's done something to warrent a reprimand, or extra assistance. "I think I have finally found Usagi's math textbook in our room." She offers, a guess on one of the many potential reasons for the visit.

Kyouka Inai has posed:
A look of vague amusement crosses Kyouka's face at the announcement of the math book's recovery. She quirks one eyebrow, the corner of her mouth lifting in what might be a smirk in other circumstances, but surely isn't anything so rude in a meeting like this. "S'at so? Well that's lovely, Osaka-san, but I'm afraid the Mystery of the Missing Math Book is not the reason you've been called here today. Though I'm glad some progress is being made."

She swivels her chair to the side, tugging open the drawer of her desk and pulling out a file. She flops it down on the desk and it opens to show a disturbingly mugshot-like picture of the roomate in question, Usagi Tsukino, above her picture. "Though it does relate to your erstwhile roomie. She missed her appointment. /Again/." Kyouka has been trying to get the girl in here for like, a week at least.

Naru Osaka has posed:
"I will say that behind, rather than in, the closet was at least a better attempt at hiding it this time." Clearly the Mystery of the Math Text is a series. Naru notes before Kyouka continues. She sighs, a quiet longsuffering sound. "I apologize for that, Sensei. I had wondered when she was quite so enthusiastic about study hall." Which was less truly enthusiasic, and more not actively finding anything else in the world to be doing.

She considers a moment and then nods. "If you could let me know when the next appointment is, I can do my best to ensure she is here. I would not stay, of course, but hopefully can get her to the door." The implication being, of course, that once inside the door, she's Kyouka's problem.

Kyouka Inai has posed:
Kyouka looks vaguely amused yet again, which seems to be a frequent response in this sort of meeting. She laces her fingers together, elbows resting on her desk, and regards Naru over the top of them. "Well, it's really nothing for you to apologize for, is it? You're not her keeper... but you are a convenient avenue to getting what I want, so maybe I should be the one apologizin' to you."

"Wellll, that's kind of what I was hoping for." Kyouka says, with what is definitely a smirk this time. She swivels her chair half to the side, letting it rock back and forth on its pivot slightly. "You, my dear Osaka-san, will be excellent bait. It's important that I talk to Tsukino-san, you know. The Headmistress was quite insistent. I don't want to have to go and drag her out of class by the ear, but I will if it comes to that."

Naru Osaka has posed:
There is just the faint arch of one brow at the notion that Naru is not Usagi's keeper, but she does not comment on that point directly. She's quite adept at sitting still, unlike 90% of the rest of the student body who make her appear all the more calm for their general lack.

"I have found pigtails to be a better grabbing point than her ear, in a pinch." Naru notes and then realizes quite what she just quipped to a /teacher/ and there's the creep of a blush and a duck of her head in apology for the forwardness. She takes just a moment to gather herself and then nods a little. "I am truly uncertain if she is just being forgetful, or if she's actually concerned and avoiding the appointment at all. I.. hope she isn't in too much trouble. I might be able to reassure her if she isn't."

Kyouka Inai has posed:
Naru's comment about pigtails makes Kyouka give a somewhat lopsided grin, flashing a hint of slightly-too-sharp canine. "Duly noted, though I think going that route might cause me more trouble than it would solve. As I said, I'd /really/ like to avoid being forceful if at all possible but..." A slight lift and fall of dress-shirt-clad shoulders, "Sometimes options are limited."

She shakes her head as she leans back in her chair again. "She's not in trouble. Unless you count the trouble she's in for missing two consecutive scheduled appointments, which is not the sort of trouble that ought to cause her concern... provided she actually shows up for the next one. I have an important message I need to give her. In person."

Naru Osaka has posed:
"Well certainly." Naru agrees readily on the notion of a lack of force, if possible. She settles her shoulders, an unconscious movement that's half stretch and half squaring of them.

"I might be able to just bully her into it." Naru muses thoughtfully on the specifics on getting Usagi to the office. "If that fails, is it possible to meet somewhere other than your office? That's easier to trick her into getting somewhere."

Kyouka Inai has posed:
"If you think simple 'persuasion' might do the trick," Kyouka stresses with P-word as a more desirable alternative to 'bully', "Then by all means. But if that does fail... mmm.." She taps her finger against her bottom lip, then quirks both brows.

"Does she like taiyaki?" A knowing grin creeping across her face. Because who doesn't like taiyaki, and Kyouka just happens to have a good relationship with the guy running the taikaki stand on the street just outside the main gates of campus.

Naru Osaka has posed:
"If she's already missed two appointments." Naru conceedes both on the change of terminology and on the potential for failure. "Persuasion might not be the most effective. I can try it, however." She shifts how her hands are folded in her lap and there's a slow, gentle smile at the next query.

"Yes, Sensei. She likes taiyaki." It's a reply that is delivered in the same way that one gently reassures a toddler, or an inebriated friend that the sky is still blue and the sun will still rise in the East tomorrow. Naru looks curious as to where the generally very effective food bribery might lead to.

Kyouka Inai has posed:
"You are welcome to try anything you think might be effective. But part of my job is planning for contingencies." Kyouka says, in a way which seems suspiciously militaristic for a supposed guidance counselor. "And like I always say, taiyaki is the most delicious contingency." She doesn't actually always say that, but maybe she will if it keeps working. It's already gotten Kyouko to fall in line.

"If your initial attempts at persuasion fail, why don't you invite her for a taiyaki at the stand outside the gates at say... 3pm. I think I can arrange to be loitering in the area at around the same time, purely by happenstance."

Naru Osaka has posed:
"Thank you." Naru nods as she now has Options for getting Usagi to school appointments. "I will try, although it will probably be a better appointment all around with the addition of taiyaki." The smile out of Naru says that she might not try quite as hard as she might otherwise, when that is plan B. "Although outdoors does not provide quite as much privacy as perhaps you might need." She considers this and then gives a little nod. "That is not insurmountable." She decides, almost on Kyouka's behalf.

Kyouka Inai has posed:
Kyouka shrugs. "Once the rabbit is in the trap, if you'll forgive the low hanging fruit, we can move venue. The important thing is getting face-to-face in the first place." She nods her head, closing the file and tapping it on the desk firmly, then putting it back into it's place in the drawer.

"Thank you, Osaka-san. I think we can conclude this meeting here. I do appreciate your help." Another smile, perhaps just a bit too toothy for someone talking about getting a student in for much-needed career advice.

Naru Osaka has posed:
A deep bow of Naru's head as she stands. "Thank you, Sensei. If you do not see her earlier, I look forward to taiyaki this afternoon." She collects up her book bag, the brushing of her skirt a wholly unconscious and automatic gesture after she settles the bag on her shoulder. "I hope the rest of your day goes as smoothly as it can." Someone, clearly, has no illusions about the general tone of being the guidance teacher at This school. She bobs again, and then turns and takes her leave, not quite shutting the door behind her as she steps into the hallway.
