“It’ll all be okay,” Dr. Tomoe said in a soft, soothing tone. Very gently, he stroked his daughter’s head before she begin to drift asleep. “When you wake up, you’ll feel much, much better.”
Slowly, consciousness slipped away from Hotaru, her last memory his smiling face.
Dr. Tomoe glanced towards his daughter’s effects, primarily the device. It was a very… useful tool. That had almost served its usefulness. He slowly walked out from the room before his aids moved in to prep her for surgery. “Is everything prepared?” he asked Kaolinite.
“The new prosthetics are ready and waiting,” Kaolinite said.
“And the pure heart crystal?” Dr. Tomoe asked.
“Ready for Mistress 9,” Kaolinite said before bowing her head.
“Well then, let’s not keep her waiting,” Dr. Tomoe said before he began to laugh…

“Mistress 9,” Dr. Tomoe said, kneeling before the sitting form of his daughter. Now shrouded in darkness and surrounded by dolls of all kinds.
“Pure hearts…” Mistress 9 said softly.
“More will be acquired for you,” Dr. Tomoe said. “We are putting forth our best efforts.”
“If I am to fully awaken, I require more pure hearts,” Mistress 9 said. “Not just these paltry fragments of one, no matter how pure and powerful it was.”
“It will be done,” Dr. Tomoe said. “New targets are being identified and the next versions of the daimon will be able to gather much more than just the fragments.”
“Bring me… more… pure hearts…” Mistress 9 said before, very slowly, her eyes drifted closed and she collapsed back against her countless stuffed animals.
