Miho's alarm went off for the first time since summer vacation had begun. She grumbled, and reached out to turn it off.

The first thing she did upon getting out of bed is to put on the Jade Bangle.

Then, of course, she went to her closet to get her uniform, dragging her feet the whole way --

It was the girls' uniform. Miho was almost startled.

She broke into a grin. The only way she could describe it was a stab of happiness. Or like getting a wound disinfected, except happier.

She changed out of her pajamas and into her uniform, practically dancing. Not Noroima's slow, rhythmic dances -- a more modern, exuberant dance of pure delight.

And then, of course --

......

-- she was standing outside the homeroom door.

"Before we begin," her teacher was saying from inside, "I have an announcement. Aiuchi-san, please come in."

Miho walked inside. The stares of all her classmates were practically the worst-case scenario.

The teacher nodded. "From now on," he said, "Aiuchi-san will be attending school as a girl."

Miho fiddled with the bangle. "Um ... hi!" she side, smiling a bit wider than any of her classmates had probably ever seen before, while still being every inch as nervous as she'd always been. "My ... n-name is ... Aiuchi Miho." She bowed. "Um. P-pleased ... to meet you!"

It was clear enough that not every part of her life was going to be smooth sailing from now on; apart from anything else, she still needed to grab a burner phone so she could call up La Crima's friend Riventon (it wasn't that she had any particular reason to distrust Obsidian yet; it was just that she was making those decisions by channelling the spirit of the first Noroima, who just wasn't a trusting person at all), and her anxiety was once again causing her to procrastinate.

But at least in the mundane part of her life, things were looking up!
