Chrono could feel his heart pounding when he saw her.

Urahoshi Takemi, or Lil Hoshi to a lot of the crew. Not the youngest in the crew, but of those who stayed behind she was one of the younger. Still beyond the cutoff. Short lavender hair, yellow eyes, a smile that could light up the room. A bit clutzy, but an absolute genius when it came to device management. It would have been incredible timing, if her capabilities remained.

But they didn’t. It was ironic. A meister within sight, yet she wouldn’t recognize a device even though she’d done most of the maintenance on S2U. He slowly walked forward and then he felt it. The small gemstone of Ruby Spectacle. It seemed to hum alive, sensing its owner nearby.

Then she looked up at him and he could see it. That split second where she stood at her full height, almost saluting before she caught herself, only to look confused then. “Hello. Can I help you?”

“Uhhhh… I’m… Chrono Harlaown,” he said softly. “I don’t suppose… you recognize this?” he asked, pulling out S2U in card form as well as the small red earring, Ruby Spectacle.

“I’m sorry, are they broken?” Urahoshi asked. “I’m Urahoshi Takemi, nice to meet you.” Then, however, she looked confused again. “Wait, how can… they be broken? What kind of card is that?”

Chrono sighed and then, slowly, gave her a gentle smile. “Sorry, it’s just from a game.” The user was registered. Scan: Inactive linker core. Healthy. Safe. She’d be found again. “Are… you… happy?”

“Happy? Oh, I think so,” Urahoshi said. “Are you okay? You look very tired.”

“I have been,” Chrono said. “But I feel a little more awake now. Could… you tell me what you do here?”

“Here?” Urahoshi asked. “Oh… this and that. Mostly I fix things, all kinds of little things. I’ve been helping around the shrine when I can, the nice woman here helped me out a few weeks back when…”

Chrono talked with her for what felt like hours. It likely wasn’t, just an hour or two likely. But… When he finally left, there was one thing he couldn’t deny. His spirits were lifted. Finding that Urahoshi wasn’t just safe, but was in many ways thriving, made him feel… better. Made him feel hope. Even without most her memories, a brilliant mind like hers would still find ways to work, create, fix, maintain.

And if she could do it, the others could too. Two down, seven to go.
