Origin - Sailor Senshi
A Sailor Senshi (Sailor Soldier) or Guardian Knight, is a character who draws their power from a celestial object, such as a planet, moon, or asteroid. This takes the form of a special Heart Crystal within them, which connects them to that object and allows them to call upon it's power to transform into a pretty warrior. They utilize rods to transform.
Sailor Senshi are capable of using attacks tied loosely to an element or concept; Sailor Mars is connected to fire, Sailor Mercury is connected to Cold, and Sailor Venus is connected to love. Most Sailor Senshi fight less with fists and kicks and lean into called, spectacular named attacks that draw on their connection - examples being Venus' Love Me Chain or Mars' Flame Sniper.
Guardian Knights have only one canon example, the dashing Tuxedo Kamen, and are protectors and allies of Sailor Senshi. They have an uncanny ability to appear when needed most and are tied to the protection of a Sailor Senshi or close group of them, and may not be able to control the timing of their transformation, instead transforming when their protected Senshi does.
Senshi are often granted their ability to transform by a mascot, usually a talking cat, who serves as a confidant and advisor, but they are not selected; rather they are ancient guardians reborn, chosen by fate.
Players cannot claim stars as their tied celestial object, but can claim asteroids, moons, and dwarf planets. Each object may only grant it's power to a single Senshi or Guardian Knight.
Since the Sailor Moon theme has several canons, some of which directly contradict, the canon of the show as we have settled on it can be found here Additional Sailor Moon Origin Info
