Mermaid Princesses are the rulers of the seven Oceans and their protectors, though they care just as much about the lives on the surface world, so they extend their protections to the surface. Under the seas, they have a casual getup, as well as a more formal one. All mermaids can communicate with sea animals, typically asking them to relay messages. A perk of their mermaid forms is their cold resistance, being able to swim in even the coldest waters with no ill effects (though this doesn't apply to cold caused by magic).

Usefully for their traversal of the lands, they can also freely turn into human forms at will, though putting water on their shell lockets or pearls dispels this form for a time (there are no limitations on going back to a mermaid form on their own).

The Mermaid Princesses' melodious singing voices come from their pearls, but they also carry out of faction of having a new one be born should the pearl be currently unconnected to a mermaid princess (that is to typically say, should the mermaid princess have died). Their songs are instead a gift of Aqua Regina, the goddess of the seas. There are the instruments through which they have been gifted the ability to protect land and sea, repelling demons, dispelling hypnosis, purifing evil from the heart of people, healing and acting as a balm against negative feelings and weariness. When singing, a sphere of light, called Live Stage, provides a zone safe from environmental effects, even allowing for levitation.

The seven pearls are a great power source for any that can lie their hands on them, but in the hands of their rightful owners, they can turn into a magical microphone called E-pitch, increasing the reach and potency of her voice. They also enable the mermaid princesses to transform into Idols with beautiful outfits that reflect the owner's taste.

The mermaid princesses have a second stage to their transformation: a gift of Aqua Regina called the Super Idol form, invoked by activating the bracelet on their wrists after already being in Idol form. In Super Idol forms, the songs are stronger and additional ones, the most powerful of them, are unlocked in this form.

Other people attuned to magic

While the focus of the manga and anime and Aqua Regina's chosen protectors are the mermaid princesses, there are other magical individuals in the series besides the seven princesses. These falls in three categories:

1. Sea creatures of legend that populate the seas, like the Guardian Hippocampus, who watches over and aids the Mermaid Princesses, or Madame Taki, an Oyster Fairy. These are more likely to be relegated to the role of mascots.
2. The fictional race of beings known as the Panthalassa, who used to live underwater until their royals went to war and tried to conquer the water world, until Aqua Regina was forced to intervene and seal away the warmongers in their underwater palace. Those that didn't take part went on to live to live on the surface, mixing between normal people.
3. Merman princes, who are in charge of smaller kingdoms, ruling over a sea rather than an ocean and employing their own powers instead of the mermaid princesses' singing powers.
