They range in size from tiny spots to large ones, and all have benches - wooden ones, for the smaller gardens, stone for the larger - for the campus community to sit down and enjoy a moment of peace.
One of the more popular gardens is a traditional Japanese rock garden, with carefully combed white rocks, large stones, well-maintained patches of moss, and of course, water features. What makes this one stand out from the other rock gardens on campus is the fact that one of the main water features is a fountain, depicting birds in flight.
Another popular garden is a butterfly garden, featuring a lawn of native grasses and perennials, with a statue in the center of the garden of an elephant sitting in a truck. Every hour, water sprays upwards from the elephant's truck, helping to water the garden. It's a popular spot for lunches.
Another of the gardens is rather unkempt - tended to only a few times of year, on the far northern end of campus, it has a number of large old statues, including one of a pony atop a pillar.
