Norie Okana's Sheet

Background

Once upon a time, there was a girl named Norie Okana. She had a good life. Couldn't complain. Two loving parents, an older brother she got along with. No sadness or strife- save for the typical arguments one had in a family from time to time. Life was as close to perfect as perfect could be for an average child.

That changed on the day she walked into the antique shop. The necklace almost called to her, for it's beauty and charm--- it was an old Italian necklace. So she spent a month's collected allowance on it. It was pretty--- she'd worked hard around the house for her money. She wanted to buy it for herself!

The antique shop was just an antique shop, but the necklace was something else. Long ago, a powerful vampire named 'Poderoso'. who was defeated by separating his power from his form, separate from his mind and body, into an elaborate magical necklace by a powerful mage-- allowing his physical body and mind to be killed.

The cursed necklace was kept safe, until it became forgotten by time, turning up in various shops- the power sealed away inside. It wasn't until the necklace arrived in Tokyo that the inherent magical surges in the city scratched away the seal. The power was free and it sought a suitable host. It found it in Norie Okana.

Over the course of a week, Norie fell ill and sick, as the necklace did it's twisted job of subverting Norie's body into something dark and twisted and inhuman inside. Then she mysteriously got better on the eighth day. She shrugged, it was assumed it was just the flu. She never went to a doctors. She went to school, came home. Went to bed. Then it finished the job.

She woke up pale, her formerly black hair a deep purple, her blue eyes a deeper shade of the same. She felt shaky, weak, wrong on some level she couldn't comprehend-- and then hungry. Not like as if she woke up and wanted breakfast. No, this was some sort of ravenous, deep hunger she didn't know how to describe. She just stared at shock at the reflection in the mirror- this.. this wasn't her!? Was it!?

Her brother came in to wake her up- to come into the sight-- the first words were 'Norie, are you okay!? What happened.'. She didn't respond right away--- but then she moved-- faster than she'd ever in her life and held her brother by the side of his arms-- and began to do---

---something. Something she'd learned was draining energy. She didn't know it at the time. It was dizzying. But after it, she felt better. Much better. Of course, her brother was now unconscious-- though she'd--- returned to her former looks-- her brother was wisked away from the 'mysterious fainting accident'.

Dreams came soon the following, of the past wielder of the power. A cruel being of the dark- who did many terrible things during his reign. Though these dreams- she was taught about who- and what- she was and how horrifying it was. But this was not her. While there was a lingering mental imprint- the mind of 'Poderoso' - or 'Powerful', was quite gone forever. Instead, the power gave her a new suitable name. 'Lacrima'. or 'Tears'- and those came soon after.

Afraid and lost- the young vampire tries desperately to cling to whatever vestiges of it's life she can while she's forced to drain energy to be allowed to continue the deception, and keep herself alive.

While she's forced off the more darker aspects of the change to her life so far through sheer willpower- with many of the terrible choices happening to her, such as the loss of friends at her own choice to keep them safe, her dreams are getting more darker, with an undercurrent of a deep sotto voce, encouraging her to continue and give in completely to her dark side.

Notes: 'Vampire' here is a term used in this application to describe a dark, undead being that needs to drain energy from a mortal to survive. It is not particularly based on any mythology or specific 'Vampire' lore, and this take on it, is of my own design.-- though it has a vaguely ancient southern European flavor-- Spanish, Italian, etc. Specific Powers will be mentioned in the powers section. Other Vampires that may come along may work entirely differently of course.

As a note, this character is not particularly meant to be saved from her predicament. She's meant to eventually tip past the humanity barrier and just sort of become a corrupted undead vampire for good. She's at the point, on a corrupted level- where 'healing her' means 'dusting her' give or take and she's just using pure willpower at this point to stop from tipping over-- but that's wavering slowly now.

What kind of dark being she becomes will be based on interaction however--- will she be conflicted and merciful as best she can? Will she definitely be grade A evil? She will still be some flavor of 'dark', but where she falls on the scale will be up to the interactions with others up to that point

A better summary of what I'm attempting here is a story about that sometimes terrible things happen to you for no reason, and there's no easy fixes for them and in the end, all you can do is the best you can and hope for the best given the circumstances- with help from those around-- or inaction of those around you.

Personality

A year ago, people would tell you Norie Okana was a nice person, outgoing and friendly-- your typical average girl who had friends and was in clubs and helped people without a second thought.

Then she changed one day after being terribly ill for a week.

No one really knew why. People assumed it was trouble at home--- maybe a close relative died-- maybe they lost something or someone important in their life? People /tried/ to talk to her but she'd push them away and run off--- refuse to answer her phone or answer notes and letters. Teachers tried to talk to her family, but they had no basis for this behavior either- proving former hypothesis about it wrong.

Currently, she's a dour, mostly friendless girl that keeps to herself. People trying to talk to her tend to be rebuffed coldly. It's not that she hates people- no, she very much /wants/ to talk to people again, but she knows it isn't safe to do so. She never knows when that hunger may strike.

--and that /hunger/. In best cases she can 'convince' someone to a out of the way area to drain them and be okay before anything else can happen. In worst cases-- the disguise she uses will drop, leaving her to run and depart away from the area to crash into the closest person and drain them so she can become 'normal' again. She typically doesn't let herself get so hungry she becomes 'ravenous'-- she did once- to see how long she could go without feeding and a day later-- a kid woke up in the hospital.

It pains and twists at her being to do this to her classmates and people. Every week she feels a little bit more of herself slipping away-- it becomes a little more easier to do it-- she worries, very much, when she becomes numb to the feeling of doing this. She wonders what will happen then when she feels... nothing about the act.

Norie does not like seeing 'her other self'-- the pale skin, the purple hair and strange purple eyes. She knows there is a name 'Lacrima' associated with this other self. Her dreams keep insisting this is her real name. She keeps fighting it. Everyday though, it's a little harder to make her respond to her current name--- 'Norie... Norie?' 'Oh, hrm!?'.

The short version is that she is now a very dour and sad lonely girl who actively avoids making friends and shunned her current friends for no apparent reason that can be figured out. Her family has looked into the issue heavily- sent her to doctors and therapists, but all can't seem to discern the problem. She sees one monthly currently.

Norie Okana used to be in the Dance Club. She isn't in any clubs anymore. She finds it hard to enjoy them anymore, and her time is best spent trying to figure out ways to reverse or at least make the effects of what she's become less severe.

She's taking to following old legends and mythologies on creatures such as herself. She's figured out a lot of ways to potentially kill herself. There seems to be very few recorded ways of undoing the things that have happened to her. If there's any at all- they're hidden and super secret.

She dreams and hopes to not be a vampire anymore- plain and simple. To be human again. She's tried classic fixes already. She once ate an entire bag of garlic and the only thing she got was a stomach ache. She tried attaching crosses and religious iconography to herself in the form of jewelry to no effect.

Friends:

The Sotto Voice, The Darkness: A deep and low female voice that speaks in her head. It just... says things- sometimes cryptically, sometimes directly. Sometimes it'll answer questions and opens dialogue when she's alone- but it talks at length to her, in her dreams. It represents the darkness and dark power that's infesting her-- in a sense, Lacrima herself. In a weird, twisted way it wants the best for her-- if she gives in, she'll be much happier. Being mortal is dumb anyways. Isn't it much better to be immortal, live forever and have power? --- So far, Norie has resisted the clarion call of the dark through sheer willpower, though it's cost her a lot already-- in friends, in her life, and mental stability. It is really just a matter of time, potentially in the near future, until something happens that causes Norie to just give in and let herself disappear into the Lacrima persona for good.

Her Brother: Ryo Okana. In times past, her older brother was one of her best friends. The two have drifted apart recently-- ever since the moment he woke up one day after fainting in her room. Her brother doesn't know why he doesn't quite trust Norie anymore, but sometimes he has a dream of a purple haired 'witch' or a 'vampire' grabbing him and making him feel awful and weak, and for some reason, Norie makes him think about this in uncomfortable ways.

Her Parents: Masaru and Kagami Okana-- her dad and mom respectivly- are very very worried about her. They've sent her to countless therapists to try to figure out what's wrong, they try to give her things she thinks she might want, they just want the girl that was their daughter back. She loves her parents desperatly, but she's afraid of the danger that might come with telling them the truth, both the dangers of her being sent to a mental institution-- that most certainly means the end of this life for her, and the metaphysical, magical dangers of her new vampire-like tendencies.

Powers

Lacrima is agile, quick and strong enough to throw mundane, normal humans a good fifteen feet through the air. She's also capable of throwing dark energy blasts around. If she had some sort of teacher or a book, she could learn dark magic- but is currently lacking that in any form.

Non-Combat Powers/Abilities:

I'm going for some classic vampire powerset here with a mahou-twist.

Immortality, Undead: She's basically a vampire now- a creature of darkness. As long as no one offs her, she could potentially live for a very long time. Mundane wounds that would be very fatal to a mortal are not particularly fatal to her- and she can heal with strong applications of dark energy. Strong magical attacks are very still much a danger to her. She tends to splat into dark energy shade and shadowy ichor when hit strong enough and reform, and as a movement ability to move around quietly.

Cursed Necklace: The necklace that cursed her, it's elaborate and Italian and eerily beautiful. The power in it has already infested her- so destroying it won't fix her condition. At the moment, she can use it to store energy for later- as it is a container of sorts for it. In theory- someone could use it to separate the power from her body if they knew the old forgotten ritual- though it would kill her in the end as it did the last vampire it was used on.A

Standard Dark Power Set (TM): The tropes you've come to except from Mahou 'Pure Darkness Aligned Beings'-- ability to shift away into the Dusk Zone better than most others, Float, Blast with dark energy. Doing these things are a particularly 'dark' act-- tapping into the stronger aspects of her dark power-- and draw her closer to tipping over and shedding her humanity for good.

Power of Suggestion: She can mentally suggest to mundanes easily enough- and tends to use this power to convince people to follow her out of sight to drain them in relative safety. This is largely meant to be aimed at mundane, non-magical NPCs to draw in played PCs over mysterious fainted individuals--- magically powered characters resist this, regardless of being in henshin or not, due to odd magical inclined defenses. This is the main reason mundanes don't remember being drained by her.

Energy Drain: She's capable of draining energy. This is how she 'feeds' as a vampire, (Rather than bite or drink blood like a 'proper' traditional vampire.). Currently, she needs to touch the victim- so getting in close is key. She may develop longer ranged feeding powers the more she gives into the darker side. Feeding is slowly draining her humanity and willpower-- even if the energy is given willingly- she's going to eventually reach a point where she 'tips' and realizes she's just some sort of energy draining, undead abomination for the rest of her life.

Weakness, Positive Energy: As a creature of the dark, things like purification hurts her severely. Strong enough applications will kill her.

Vampire?: She isn't a traditional vampire. Stakes through the heart don't affect her. (They hurt a lot, but she's undead.) Neither do basic religious iconography, and she still has a reflection. She calls herself a Vampire because that's what the former wielder of the power was called in the dreams she has. She is still quite a young vampire and isn't anywhere as strong as the past wielder of the power that infests her- who could resist being purified- and had to be defeated a particularly clever way.
