You dream of sitting at the dining table in your house, school canceled for the day, a Western-style breakfast spread waiting for you. It’s chilly outside, but warm in your house, a place more familiar than anywhere else, the most comfortable place you can imagine. Mama makes tea in the kitchen and scolds you for waking up so late, Papa reads his newspaper and offers good-natured defenses, and Shingo plays with Luna, sneaking her pieces of bacon under the table. Besides you, sits the boy.

You eat together, you and the boy, filling your plates and your mouths with scrambled eggs and toast, drinking juice from identical pink cups, and you compliment Mama on her cooking while he drains his glass. When his cup is as empty as yours, when your plates are empty, when you realize Shingo has gone and Papa has gone and Mama has gone, that the Luna settled at your feet is not Luna but a plush cat with her mark stitched to its forehead -

He looks at you, the boy, and you know him, you know him, with his blue eyes and sun-warmed skin but you can’t place him. He looks at you and you know he’s grateful for the food, for the warmth, for getting to exist in your memory of this morning. He looks at you, and says,

“Find the Silver Crystal.”

Usagi wakes in the dead of night, staring into the darkness. There’s warmth by her side - Luna, tucked into as much of a ball as she can manage with one leg still in a cast, curled up beside her. The mark on her forehead shines in the faint glow cast by the nightlight Usagi had plugged in on a whim. It isn’t stitched into her forehead. Her fur is warm and dense and real beneath Usagi’s hand when she touches her. She’s alive, not a plush toy.

The boy isn’t there, of course. Now that she’s awake, she can’t remember what he looked like, can’t recognize the sound of his voice, but the words -

Find the Silver Crystal.

She can’t forget those. Usagi shakes her head. A part of her can’t believe she dreamed up a whole cute boy only for it to end up a dream about her life as a Senshi.

"Couldn't he have at least wanted to play games first," she mumbles, closing her eyes. Luna breathes soft and steady at her side. It’s too early to be awake.
