| Okujoo Ramen sits on the roof of a small convenience store and takes up the majority of the rooftop space. The restaurant is reached by the building's elevator, the doors of which open into the restaurant's dining space. The kitchen area is behind the elevator, concealed inside a squarish part of the roof (which has all the building's air conditioning units and such on top of it). The menu has a variety of Japanese favorites, but the real focus of course is the Ramen. You can have it any variety of traditional, or in a multitude of in-house creations, and a few deserts (like Macha Tiramisu).
The dining space has a floor made up of multicolored tiles, that go from varied greens to beige to blues, almost like a beach. The tables and chairs are wooden with an outdoorsy feel beneath the comfortable, multi-colored cushions. About half the space is under a glass roof, supported on pillars, while the other half is just left to the open sky. The enclosed half is shielded around the edge of the roof by a brick wall, decorated with movie posters (mostly anime films, but a few classics like 'The Last Starfighter' and 'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles' also features). The open half has tables with large transparent umbrellas, which can be erected in case of rain, and a metal railing with glass to keep people from falling off the edge. At night the restaurant is illuminated not by lamps, but a myriad of strings of small light bulbs, all strung up haphazardly to imitate the starry night sky, as you might see it in the countryside instead of downtown Tokyo. | ||||
