All of his work at Obsidian was done. No outstanding assignments, all the paperwork squared away, all requests responded to, and so on and so forth. All of his phone calls now redirected to the number you can call to hear what time it is.
All of his school work for Radiant Heart Academy was done. Every assignment completed and turned in, every test taken and grades received, all the last minute studying he could pack into his remaining time for subjects that would never matter to him again.
Jason Dite was going to disappear soon, so it's not as though any of this mattered.
Jadeite just hated leaving loose ends.
He was very meticulous like that.
Library books, returned. No food left in his dorm room to spoil, everything squared away and shipped off.
Nothing left tying him to this city or this planet.
Moving to the doors of the school library, Jadeite looked out through his eyeglasses at the light that filtered through the wintry clouds in the sky.
"Ah," he muttered, as a memory came back to him. "We never took Himeko to see the capybaras like we'd planned."
Well, that's one loose end that would have to remain loose.
The barest of ties back to this place where he had spent the first 16 years of his life.
But, you know what?
"That's enough," he said quietly, gently under his breath. "I don't need any more. This is enough."
Sending out his last text message to anyone who might want to know where he is and how he's doing or what happened to him after he stops showing up to anywhere, Jason and Jadeite alike vanish, leaving behind the cellphone in a trash can.
