It’s a dark moonless night. After everything that has happened with the Walpy incident, Miho has kinda hidden away from things. She knows that she can’t stay hidden forever. And that while still going to class, the woman has been avoiding a lot of the mahou. She hasn’t really looked at her phone much, and while going back to her dorm, Miho has been avoiding certain areas. And been hiding from her clubs. That dream still haunts her.
The air gets colder as Miho travels into a wooded area on her own. She knows it’s stupid, but that nagging fear keeps gnawing her to her core. The woman reaches up, and touches her magatama, and henshins into Yukihime. Yukihime grabs her naginata, and starts to go through a few practiced movements with the weapon. Thoughts race her mind as she practices, and the woman sighs a bit as she drops the naginata. She just can’t find the drive, or focus.
“Whelp, thank god my life is in such great hands. I can surely sleep, knowing the Great Chickenhime is standing watch…”
Yukihime squeaks as she looks around. Nothings here! At least as far as she knows. The snow mahou draws her bow, and starts looking around. “Show yourself!”, the mahou says as she spins around. A tiny blue wolf cub walks out from the trees. It spins around in place before curling up in a ball, and gives a puppy like yawn.
“Bark. Bark. Howl. Nothing but us lost wolf cubs here. Go back to being scared, and uselessly flailing about.”
“Seriously I have a bow! Show yourself!”, Yukihime calls out again. The mahou spins around looking for a target. Nothing is showing itself. “Its no use in hiding! I will find you!”, Yukihime calls out. She sniffs the air a little, and listens for sounds of movement. The woman can’t detect anything around her. Just what is going on. Great, did she stumble on a youma out here? Something she can’t detect? Yukihime continues to spin around, trying to find a target.
“Oh no! The mighty chickenhime is gonna to attack. Really is this the best you got? No wonder you’re flailing around in the dark. You barely know what you’re doing. Just…get those things you put in your ears, and go to the second music selection on your…weird talky thing.”
Yukihime stares for a moment. Is it telepathy? Or some sort of magic she doesn’t know about? There’s nothing around to talk to her. Yet something is speaking to her. The mahou goes over to her duffle bag of emergency attack supplies, and pulls out her earbuds and phone. She puts the earbuds in, and selects the second song. The mahou wonders if there’s something wrong as she hears nothing at first. Then she hears a drum, beating like a heartbeat.
“Magic isn’t talismans, or spells, or whatever goes through your mind. Those are just…visual focuses to make it easier. Seeing is believing type thing. It’s deeper then that. It’s emotion, mental, and natural. It doesn’t makr you different. Being Yukihime is no different then being Miho. Same being. You just have an easier time accessing magic.”
Yukihime sighs a bit as she listens. Her focus goes into the music as the drum seems to get louder. There is a soft flute that seems to drift in. Somehow, Yukihime picked up her naginata without realizing it. Her stance widens a bit, and she starts to move on her own. The naginata seems to float in her arms instead of feeling heavy. Each movement flows with the music she’s hearing. Things settle into place as she dances.
“That’s a bit better. You don’t need to summon all your magic at once. There’s a flow to it. You can summon just a few of the wolves, and synch with them. Why summon a whole pack for what only a few are needed for?”
The mahou continues her dance, and opens her eyes. Three of her wolves are moving around her. As if guided by her dance. And things don’t feel so…heavy. It’s confusing to her as she moves. Everything has been so chaotic, confusing. No time to really think about what’s going on. This, however, feels right. Like there’s no reason to fear what’s going on. The wolves continue their dance with the mahou, somehow in synch with her.
“There, not as draining, and a little bit more pleasing to the eyes. The Oni likely feels more at home in combat. You feel more in tune with Nature and Winter. There are skills you know, but not ready to use. For now, think about the nature of winter. A time of of serenity, but it has its savage side.”
Yukihime breathes out. That blue fog comes out her mouth before she starts a barrage of savage blows, in which the wolves seem to move and attack as well. Yukihime doesn’t stop dancing, but blinks as she watches. Its as if she’s a member of the pack. Like it’s leader. Whatever this voice is, it seems to be guiding her through her magic. How? The music seems to increase in intensity and tempo as guitar seems to slice in. The drum gets heavy as well. The dance becomes more intense as the savage attacks continue. Yukihime blinks as on of the slashes sends one of the wolves into a dashing pounce. The wolf smashes a tree, and returns as a bead on Yukihime’s wrist.
“There you go. Isn’t that so much better? You don’t need to worry about who you are, nor what you are. Nothing has changed. You can still punch, kick, whatever as Yukihime. You just have tools to help you out. Nothing about you had changed. You can do much the same with a bow, fists, sword, knives…You are not limited in any way. As you get better, you’ll know how to make a sword or knives with ice. As well as learn how to help others with abilities you haven’t thought of yet.”
Yukihime finishes the dance. The wolves that didn’t attack come back to her wrist. The mahou is tired, but not passing out tired. She grabs a protein bar, and nibbles on it. This feels creepy weird but not dangerously so. Like everything is just…right. How could she hear the voice while listening to the music? Why did she even follow the advice? Yukihime dehenshins, and Miho looks around as she grabs the duffle bag. “Creepy…Hearing voices must mean I’m going insane, or it’s a mahou thing. That or that youma shattered my mind…”
Miho starts to walk off. She can sense a presence near her, but can’t really focus on it. Just that it’s friendly. Of course she’s not looking for a little blue wolf cub. The woman starts to walk off.
“One more thing. When you shower, it annoys your den mate that you forget to shut the door. Can you try to remember to shut the bathroom door.”
Miho squeaks, and face plants. “That voice had better be in my head! I swear if someone is spying on me!”, she yells out. The woman storms off.
The wolf cub yawns. It gives this tiny smirk, and shakes its head. “Let’s just see what this time is like. Obviously certain behaviors have changed over the years.”
