AM@PP To Host New Exhibit, Entitled Magic in the Making: Representations of Fantasy Through Artistic Expression in All-Star Collaboration with Five of World's Greatest Museums

Why, it's a truly exciting time to be an art lover in Tokyo, folks! Staff at the Art Museum at Penguin Park, Pikarigaoka Ward's very own much loved local art museum and exhibition hall, has announced their selection as the first museum to host a new first-of-its-kind traveling exhibit, made possible by not one, not two, but five of the world's greatest art museums! Pieces from Le Louvre, the British Museum, Seattle Art Museum, the National Museum of China, and the Museum of Islamic Art, along with those temporarily loaned from private collections, have been selected by art historians and curators alike to make for a stunning, three hundred and fifty piece exhibit that will travel much of the world, starting from 2025 through 2030.

Starting here in Tokyo, beginning April 1st and continuing through July 30th, the Art Museum at Penguin Park will be using its exhibit halls for the new exhibit "Magic in the Making: Representations of Fantasy Through Artistic Expression", featuring paintings, sculptures, garments, tapestries, and more, all focused around themes of magic and the fantastical, as seen through the eyes of artists through the ages. Featuring works dating from 3,000 BCE to as recent as 2010, the collection draws attention to the similarities and differences that exist across cultures which have nonetheless all been fascinated by the fantastical and strange.

((The article includes a photo (Ancient_European_Butterfly_Miraculous_holder?file=Feast_023.png), described as "A contested work, Reine des Papillons, also knowns as Femme Noble Parmi les Papillons, is one of dozens of paintings selected for exhibition. The identity of its subject, a woman in a simple dress wearing a crown, has been the subject of heated debate."))

(Image Description: A life-size painting of a young white woman in a long white sleeveless dress, with her dress and hair blowing in a breeze. She is standing in a dark forest with greenish light coming from the sky behind her. There is a gold tiara on her head in the style of a fifteenth century French women's headdress, and one arm is spread out to the side, while the other is reaching up to touch one of a kaleidoscope of glowing sea-green butterflies. The painting itself is an oil painting on canvas, set within a large wood frame, decorated with carvings of laurel leaves.)

Lourve curator, Victoire Bescond, who will act as one of four staff members attached to the traveling exhibit throughout its international journey, described the goals of the exhibit as follows:

"If there is one element of our human existence that is truly unique among all beasts, it is our ability to create and enjoy art. Across Millennia and culture, that which can be defined as art has grown, evolved, and changed - and yet, one topic which artist and culture alike returns to again and again, is the realm of the fantastic. We see them depicted in monsters and heroes, in tales of ancient gods and strange lands, and more than that, we see that every culture, across time and distance, has contemplated this subject. Most fascinating, is the reappearance of certain motifs and symbols in art across cultures. It was through studying and comparing these symbols and motifs that this exhibit was born."

This exhibit will be open to the public at standard admission price, and due to the subject matter, the Art Museum at Penguin Park has chosen to waive the price of admission for all parents with children under the age of five, and for all students who can provide school ID. Again, the exhibit will run from April 1st through July 30th.

OOC: Players, this news article can be considered the opening of a new common-ground for social scenes for those interested in investigating the history and lore of the magical world here on RHM. Many of the pieces of art on display at this exhibit are intended to be portrayals of past magical warriors, giving clues and hints to the nature of this world's past, depending on your RP interest.
If you have ideas for exhibition pieces you would want to be included in the exhibit, including depictions of mahoujin from your theme, please send a mail to KLP or reach out via DM! PS: Yes, if there is interest, there can totally be a museum heist.
