Location: | Yumegahama - Port Warehouses |
Synopsis: | Adora is musing about things, and what she wants to do with her life, now that she doesn't have magic. Tempted to text her friends, she instead decides not to for now, instead taking a walk late at night along the beach... that's when she heard a scream. |
Cast of Characters: | Adora Rainbowfist |
Being without magic was weird. Adora thought she would have started to forget things by now, but things were still as vivid as ever. It lent some credence to some of the things Glimmer had told her, that it wasn't the sword that was magic, but her... but...
"For the honor of Greyskull!"
It was probably the hundredth time she'd tried since she'd broken the sword. She-Ra still didn't come when she called out.
She'd at least gotten a little better at taking care where she did it, instead of doing it randomly in the middle of a cafe or restaurant, though she still occasionally got odd looks as to why that 16 year old was shouting out random things. Some whispers of middle-school syndrome or something. She didn't really pay much mind to them though.
She looks at her phone for a moment as she stands at the edge of the beach, a half-written text to Glimmer, asking how she was doing... it had been saved to her drafts for a day now. A text to Bow she'd started writing, inviting him to come to the beach... but never sent.
Even a text to Catra, though that was only a 'hey' that she never finished the sentence of or sent.
Adora shakes her head, turning off her phone screen and shoving the phone into her pocket as she starts to walk along the beach, having entered somewhere along the edge of the ports. She'd barely stepped to the water's edge to get her feet wet when she heard it -- a scream.
It came from the port district.
"..."
A magical girl would show up soon, right?
"......"
Right????
"........Catra's going to call me an idiot later."
And Adora was turning to run back up to get into that port, towards where she'd heard that scream. There was a sound -- kind of like fighting -- and when she approached she saw the source of it.
It was almost like a ball of static, rotating and fuzzy at the edges, with arms made of sketchy lines and clawed hands that looked ... kind of like music notes?
A girl was standing with a baseball bat in her hands, swiping at the creature as it approached, the creature giving a static filled half-cackle.
Adora stared at that sight for a moment. That lone girl standing alone, her friends huddled in the corner behind her, each holding some makeshift weapon to try to keep it at bay... meanwhile... that one girl. Standing ahead. Fighting.
"...What am I doing." She mutters to herself under her breath.
As she charges in towards that static Familiar, leaping into a jump-kick from the side to try to knock it away from the girls. "GO! I'll hold it off until help arrives!"
She could feel that connection, that familiar sent moving away in a scrabbling, strange motion. It turned towards her, teeth of waving static bared at her as she brings her fists up, shifting into a boxing stance. "Man. You're the weirdest monster I think I've seen yet."
And it rushes towards her, bringing that music-note-claw towards her as she dodges to the side, the claw scraping along the side of her skin and tearing her jacket. She shoots back with a hard punch to its side with the opening. Another connection.
It was a back-and-forth like that for what felt like a few minutes, Adora barely dodging getting heavily injured while doing those return attacks -- but the only one getting injured in the situation was Adora. Her fists could connect, but the familiar didn't seem phased by them, just continuing to come at her. And then from the side, the girl who had been holding the bat calls out.
"HEY LADY, HERE!"
And then there was a bat being thrown through the air at her, spinning end over end until Adora caught it in her hands. Bright pink, covered in stickers, and nice and heavy. "Thanks!"
It was almost a familiar weight, like the Sword of Power, but not ... quite. A different center of gravity, more towards the end.
Either way, she wasted no time in bringing it in a heavy arc towards the familiar, sending it flying again.
Once more not doing damage.
"You're one stubborn ... static... thing, huh?"
She glanced to the side where the girls had run -- most of them gone, save for the girl who had just thrown her the bat, who was furiously texting on her phone. Possibly calling for a ride or something.
"Well, looks like they're probably safe now... so..." She glances at the bat, and then down at herself. Tattered clothes, cuts and scrapes all over her body. "...How do I get to safety now..."
Those claws swipe at her again, and she ducks under it, swinging the bat towards its center of mass again.
And that last swing, though Adora doesn't notice it, she is surrounded, briefly, by a familiar golden glow...
As this time, when the Familiar is sent flying, instead of coming back at her, it makes a static-filled 'YIPE' sound, before skittering off back into the night.
"...Yeah... that's right... run away."
...Exhaustion and her wounds caught up to her not long afterwards though, as she started to walk towards that girl who was still there...
And collapsed against the wall, her vision fading.
When her eyes opened, she was laying in a room with a bunch of girls surrounding her, wearing someone else's pajamas and bandages all over her.
"Oh my gosh she's awake!"
"That was /so cool/ how you just came in all like 'kiiiicku!'"
"And you swung my bat like a pro, that was just awesome."
"What's your name?"
"Is your hair actually blonde?!"
"You're ripped! How much do you work out?!"
Adora blinks slowly at the flood of comments and questions, before finally responding. "Adora. Adora Rainbowfist."
"Wait, RAINBOWFIST?! THAT'S AWESOME! Hey you should totally hang out with us when you're doing better!"
"Yeah! We go to all sorts of places and hang out and do random stuff together!"
... Huh.
Isn't getting adopted by a gang Catra's thing?
Well, whatever. It was better than just moping around.
