The Mermaid Princesses' power come from their pearls, through which they are born should the pearl be currently unconnected to a mermaid princess (that is to typically say, should the mermaid princess have died). The pearls gift them their melodious singing voice, while the songs are a gift of Aqua Regina, the goddess of the seas. Coco's power comes from the Yellow Pearl.
The pearls are a great power source for any that can lie their hands on them, but in the hands of their rightful owners, they can turn into a magical microphone called E-pitch, increasing the reach and potency of her voice,as well as enable Idol transformations. At the start of their performances the princesses declare "Pichi Pichi Voice Live Start!", while at the end of it "Love Shower Pitch! How about an encore?"
The mermaid princesses have two form to sing: an Idol form and a Super Idol form. The latter is a gift from Aqua Regina and only accessible after having transformed into the Idol form, by activating the bracelet on their wrist.
Songs in Super Idol forms are stronger and the most powerful songs can only be sung in Super Idol form.

Mermaid princesses have five forms: their human form, their casual mermaid form, their formal mermaid form, their Idol form and their Super Idol form. The latter two are the result of their pearls' power and manifest according to the user's taste.
In Coco's case the idol form manifests as a short golden yellow dress with a high-neck halter top. The dress has a large light yellow stripe in the middle, as well as a short knee-length yellow pleated skirt. It also includes a matching pair of pale yellow high heel boots and light yellow gloves with cuffs . Her Super Idol form gains yellow-orange ruffles on the sides and a yellow-orange bow on the back. Her boots and gloves now have a second pale-yellow layer and the skirt of her dress becomes slightly more pleated.
Human transformation: they can adopt a human form, however putting water on their shell lockets or pearls dispels this form for a time. Mermaid transformation: they can go back to their mermaid form.
Idol transformation: all mermaid princesses employ a wide array of songs to repel demons, dispel hypnosis, purify evil from the heart of people, heal and act as a balm against negative feelings and weariness. They have two stages of transformation, depending on the strength they need to put into her songs.
Cold resistance: in mermaid form, they can swim in even the coldest waters with no ill effects. This doesn't apply to cold caused by magic.
Sealife communication: Mermaids can communicate with sea animals and employ them as messengers.
Live Stage: A sphere of light that provides a zone safe from environmental effects, even allowing for levitation.
