Date of Scene: | 20 November 2024 |
Location: | Tsukino-Osaka Dorm |
Synopsis: | Usagi and Naru come back to their dorm, only to find they have a new roommate. Chibiusa, on the other hand, is wondering how many talking cats they have. |
Cast of Characters: | Usagi Tsukino, Chibiusa Tsukino, Naru Osaka |
- Usagi Tsukino has posed:
Usagi Tsukino is walking through the halls of the dormitory with Naru at her side, catching her friend up on what was missed as they head back to their room. Naru hadn't been there, earlier, but there was no way Usagi wasn't going to update her, not when -
"I mean, I know we've seen all kinds of bullshit magic, but what makes a little kid fall out of the ceiling?! And she even had my name! And a hair-style kind of like mine! I could see everyone thinking she was some kind of me from an alternate dimension or a messed up clone or something."
To say she has been frustrated would be... an understatement. She gets the key in their apartment door, not even noticing the door is actually unlocked, and unlocks it anyway, opening it as she says, "Mamochan sent Anko after her, and I'm gonna ask Luna if she can track his communicator because Anko had it but - YOU?!"
The 'you' is not quite a shriek, but it's in the neighborhood. And it's addressed to the little girl sitting on her and Naru's couch - which has been replaced she realizes on second glance, changed from the two-seater they've had since last July to a three-seater that crowds the dorm that little bit more.
"What are you doing here and what did you to do our couch and - and my desk!? Is that another bed?!"
She walks into the room to let Naru have space to see, whipping around and staring in horror.
The room isn't entirely different, because it's a dorm, there's only so much space. But her previously messy free-standing desk has been replaced with a bunkbed-and-desk deal, with the new bed made up neatly with school issued, impersonal white sheets and pillows, and her previously messy desk covered in boxes where her stuff was apparently just dropped inside.
"What's going on here?!"
- Chibiusa Tsukino has posed:
Chibiusa had a hard time losing Anko. In fact, she never actually did. Eventually she resolved the issue by deciding that if she can't hide from Usagi, she'd hide with her.
She has to get better at this if she wants to stay out of trouble, but... at the same time, it's a talking cat. How bad can it be?
Brainwashing a few adults at Radiant Heart wasn't that hard, though Anko likely would've seen her doing that. Getting to Usagi Tsukino's dorm wasn't difficult either, though finding an RA to help move furniture around did take a few sad moe glances.
All of it was worth it in the end. Chibiusa Tsukino is now sitting on the couch, next to Luna, petting her gently with a serene smile. This, at least, is familiar to her. A lot more than teenage mom and dad, anyways.
"Yes, it's another bed. What, should I sleep on the floor? Are you going to put a third bed above your two?"
The catball Luna-P floats nearby, hovering closer to Usagi and staring at her as if to silently say, 'Yeah, yeah, what she said. You got a problem, bub?'
Chibiusa lifts up Luna to bring her onto her lap to pet her more, while frowning up at Usagi. "I'm staying here now. If you don't like it, too bad."
- Naru Osaka has posed:
"I mean.. its not the first time that someone has literally fallen out of the ceiling." Naru points out as she walks with Usagi. "Just this time it isn't smack in the middle of our room."
Naru waited as Usagi got the door and then she braced for whatever was going to hell when Usagi shrieked. Not the first time things have gone all wackadoo on a dime. She peers around Usagi, trying to get a better look and then blinks as she follows her roomate into...
Their room got changed. New furniture, new arrangement. New person.
Wait? New Person!?
Naru looks at Chibiusa and then back to Usagi. Then from Usagi to Chibiusa. She takes a deep breath, slow in, held a moment or two and then slow out again. "Who are you?" She asks of Chibiusa. Might as well start at the beginning.
- Usagi Tsukino has posed:
Usagi is sputtering over 'I'm staying here now', while Naru takes in the changes and then finally decides to speak. But the second she asks her who she is, the fifth person in the apartment decides to reveal herself.
"Anko!" Mamoru's calico cat answers, in a tiny little Miette voice, before making the saddest eyes and looking at Usagi. "Sashimi?"
The door to the dorm is shut tightly. Usagi looks at the ceiling as if it could give her strength. All it has is little glow in the dark stars taped to the ceiling though.
"That's the little girl I was telling you about! Mamochan named her Chibiusa, but she says her name is Usagi Tsukino, and she can't live with us! She's like four!"
There is an expectant silence, and she continues with a sigh. "Anko, I don't have any sashimi, but I can give you some tuna, and Mamochan will give you sashimi, because you did a good job." Anko heaves a disappointed sigh of her own and puddles on the floor beside the couch.
- Chibiusa Tsukino has posed:
Chibiusa looks at Naru, and pauses as Usagi introduces her before answering, "My name is Usagi Tsukino. I let Mamoru call me Chibiusa. Also the grown-ups said I could stay here. They even put in a new bed for me!" She points at the bed above Usagi's desk. Then she smirks as she pets Luna like a tiny little villain.
Chibiusa glances down at Anko and feels a little sorry for her disappointment, but then looks at Usagi and stretches out her hand. "If you want me to go away so badly, just give me what I want and I'll be gone."
Granted, that's not going to happen, and both Usagis know that, but Chibiusa still can't help but be smug at Usagi's displeasure. She's here and she's staying no matter how much Bigsagi doesn't like it.
Luna-P carelessly spins through the air before settling down on Chibiusa's bunk. It sits there, watching Naru and Usagi, with it's unblinking, unchanging smile.
- Naru Osaka has posed:
"How.." Naru blinks as Anko is there too and she starts to tally up the number of creatures in the room. "We're going to be very cozy." She mutters softly before moving more fully in and towards putting the kettle on. This really is rather a lot to take in without tea. Or coffee. Possibly both.
"Alright. So Chibiusa, otherwise we are all going to be horribly confused about who we are talking about." Naru makes THAT decision for the world. It's going to be confusing enough already. She looks to the pink haired girl. "How old are you?" The next item on the list of establishing what's going on.
"Um.. what do you want?" Naru looks between the two Usagis at THAT question, arching a brow.
- Usagi Tsukino has posed:
"You can't have my Silver Crystal! You haven't even said why you want it! For all I know, you want to wish for infinite ice cream or something, which it probably can't even do but I now really wish it could."
She'd started with a lot of steam, but ends disappointed. The fact that there's a third bed in here means that the little girl is probably right - she's here to stay. And maybe that's useful, because she can keep an eye on her, but also...
"Don't you have parents to go stay with? Or a big brother, if you're some alternate me from a horrible dimension where Shingo is the older brother?"
This is a resigned plea, while she gets out some tuna snacks for Anko... and Luna, who may not have done any work, but is going to definitely glower at her if she doesn't get some of her own snacks.
As soon as the fish is out of the mini-fridge, Anko is curling around her ankles.
- Chibiusa Tsukino has posed:
Chibiusa turns her attention to Naru at the question of her age, and she frowns and looks away. She wriggles for a moment before answering. "Old enough to be in kindergarten!"
At the accusation of wanting infinite ice cream, Chibiusa frowns. "First off I can already get all the ice cream I want! Secondly that's bad for your teeth. Thirdly, what I want it for is really important!" She stops petting Luna long enough to hold up one, then two, then three fingers as if to prove that she can count.
Usagi asks a lot of other questions about family. Chibiusa frowns at her while remaining infuriatingly cagey. "If staying with my mom and dad was an option, I totally would. Obviously. I'm here because I have to be. Also Shingo is not my older brother! I'm not your twin from an alternate dimension! We just have the same name for some reason."
She says that last line almost like an accusation, because let's face it. The fact that they share a name probably is Usagi's fault.
- Naru Osaka has posed:
"No one is using the Silver Crystal for ice cream." Naru notes into the mix. "We can just go buy ice cream." Her tone says that they might all NEED ice cream in a moment, and if they were just a couple years older, possibly with a dollop of booze all over it.
"Does Radiant Heart even have a kindergarden?" Naru asks with a soft uhhh moment. The older Usagi and her are in high school, which is rather a far cry from kindergarden.
Naru starts getting out tea cups and looks around. "Who else wants tea? So you feel through a ceiling? Chibiusa? Where did you come from?"
- Usagi Tsukino has posed:
"Kindergarten?! We're in high school, who approved you to stay with a couple of high schoolers?!" How is she supposed to make out with her boyfriend in her own room when she's sharing it with basically a toddler? This is horrifying! This is awful! "They do, I've seen it sometimes; they have a little playground gated off by one of the classroom corners..."
Answering that question gives her time to cool off, and time to consider the rest of what Chibiusa is saying.
"Did something happen to your Mom and Dad?" For the first time this encounter (but not the first time in general), concern touches Usagi's face. Because Chibiusa says staying with her parents isn't an option. And she says what she needs the Silver Crystal for is important. And because Usagi, of all people, knows that it can be used a miracle... sometimes.
"Hey, wait, why did you say it like that? Like it's my fault, huh!?"
(Somewhere in the multiverse, there's an Usagi Tsukino and a Mamoru Chiba coming up with the great idea to name their daughter after her mother. For some reason, they start to reconsider that idea.)
- Chibiusa Tsukino has posed:
Small Lady remains completely unaware of Usagi's sudden inability to make out with her boyfriend. At least while Chibiusa is in the room. She's seen them kiss before and probably wouldn't understand what the big deal was until someone shoved her out of the room.
Usagi's response to Chibiusa's response is to wince and suddenly look away. As cagey and mysterious as this little girl is, she is sometimes very easy to read. The question hurts, and she clams up instead of answering it. She doesn't answer the follow up question either.
"Where I'm from..." she starts to say, then trails off. She ponders for a moment whether or not to answer that, but eventually she closes herself off again. "... is none of your business!"
She sets Luna aside, and starts climbing up to her bunk, stepping directly on Usagi's desk as she pulls herself up onto the bed. Now in her high perch, she lays on her belly and peers down over the edge. "I'm staying here. I'm not telling you why, or where I'm from, or anything like that. This is the way it's going to be from now on and you can't stop me."
Then the little brat sticks out her tongue at Usagi and an 'nnnn!' noise.
- Naru Osaka has posed:
There's a pause from Naru as they get treated to all of the social graces that your average.. or not so average.. four year old provides. That pause gives Naru time to count to ten.
"Alright." She goes with, perhaps being well familiar with 'nnnn!' as a closing arguement. "Would yoou like tea?"
Surely to goodness /one/ of the Usagis can manage to answer that.
Naru looks over to Usagi, the blonde version and ers softly. "Do we need to work out like babysitting arrangements? Can we just like.. leave her here while we're at class? Or out on missions?"
They've already talked about the Silver Crystal. The child arrived /through a ceiling/. Not mentioning magic seems very much like a non issue here.
- Usagi Tsukino has posed:
The good thing about their unwanted roommate being a little girl is that she's even worse than Usagi is at keeping her emotions off her face. The way she winces and looks away confirms that something is wrong, and it probably is to do with her parents, and Usagi kind of feels bad for being so frustrated with her -
And then her eye twitches as the little girl says it's none of her business. And Luna just looks at her, with her judging eyes!
"Some tea would be great, Naru-chan," she says through gritted teeth. She does not grind her teeth against when Chibiusa grinds her foot on the desk as she climbs into bed, or when she sticks her tongue out.
Really, she doesn't.
"Luna can watch her," she grumbles, "When she's not in school and we are, or when we're on missions, and... I mean, she's not... wrong. If the school really moved her here - and I'm gonna check! - then we're kind of stuck with her."
- Chibiusa Tsukino has posed:
Chibiusa remains cagey and frustratingly silent up until tea is offered, at which point she perks up and says, "I'll take some!"
Usagi threatens to check with the school, and Chibiusa just grins. She has covered that angle. Unless the hypnosis fades for some reason. Oh well, people just forget things like that all the time, don't they? The paperwork is in order, at least.
"The school thinks I'm your little cousin from out of town. That's the way it's gonna be," she declares, dictating the terms of this engagement as if she has the high ground, which she technically does.
As for being babysat by Luna, well... in all honesty it wouldn't be the first time. She does, however, ask, "How many talking cats do you have?"
Not that Luna has said a single word this whole time.
- Naru Osaka has posed:
"Tea for everyone." Naru states firmly, with a declaration that sounds almost English in its assumptions that Tea Will Fix Everything. It's a fact.
Naru busies herself with tea making duties. Kettle and cups and the routine is good. Familiar. Even with a rearranged room, and a fresh new small child roommate. Tea is familiar.
"I am going to say that I am losing track of the current cat quota around here." Naru replies with a shake of her head before passing a cup to each Usagi. "Be careful, it's hot." She admonishes each of them, as if there's not solidly more than a decade of age gap between them.
"Who, exactly, told the school that you were Usagi's cousin, Chibiusa?" Naru asks as she blows lightly across her own cup of tea.
- Usagi Tsukino has posed:
"My little cousin? That's - well," she stops to consider how many cousins she has, including the fact that she has one at this school, and frowns. It's a frown that says 'I hate how reasonable that assumption is.' "Well, you're going to have to figure that out to my Mama and Papa then, because they're probably going to get put on all your paperwork!"
Ha! Brat! ...however, that said, that means she has to figure out how to explain a magic girl claiming to be her cousin and share her name to her family... maybe not so Ha, after all.
Luna considers Chibiusa for a moment, and then smiles faintly. "At least four, between myself, Artemis, Anko, and Bonito. I'm sure between us we'll be able to keep an eye on Chibiusa-chan."
"I know it's hot," Usagi grumbles, blowing stubbornly at her tea. She is not burning her tongue before a toddler does.
- Chibiusa Tsukino has posed:
When handed her tea, Chibiusa sits up more properly with her back straight and her legs dangling off the edge. Luna-P transform into a little table that crosses over the pinkette's lap, and Chibiusa sets the tea cup down on that, next to a second teacup that has Luna-P's face printed on it. She pours the tea from one cup into the other, then again, going back and forth to let it cool more evenly.
"I'm not worried about the people who can't see magic," says the small brat, without explaining what exactly she means by that. "I've managed to work things out so far. It's the people who can see I'm worried about."
When she's fairly satisfied that the tea is the right temperature for her taste, she takes a sip. Then she says with a bright, "Thank you, Naru-san!"
Well, at least she's well behaved for the moment.
- Naru Osaka has posed:
"Cousin works out pretty well." Naru sips carefully on her tea and then moves over to settle on the couch. "You're welcome for the tea."
Naru watches Luna-P and the transformations. "That.. looks very useful." She notes with a little furrow of her brow. "Why are you not worried about the people who can't see magic?" She asks, hoping to get /any/ level of clarity on anything tonight.
It really doens't seem likely, but a girl can hope.
- Usagi Tsukino has posed:
"Can you tell us why you're worried about the people who see magic? Or is that none of our business too?"
Usagi drinks her tea, just a little too fast, but she refuses to admit it, clamping her mouth shut a little longer. Ow! Hot! But... but she can't show weakness!
...the table is weird. Disconcerting. And the fact that she knew about Luna? That's...
"Is there anything you can tell us?"
- Chibiusa Tsukino has posed:
Chibiusa raises an eyebrow at Usagi, saying, "I mean... there's monsters. Obviously. As for those who can't see... don't worry about it!"
After a pause she says to Usagi, "I can tell you I saw your grades and you really need to do better."
Then she turns away. No further answers.
