From Radiant Heart MUSH

Go Meet Madoka, Emi!
Date of Scene: 04 February 2025
Location: Radiant Heart Academy
Synopsis: After Hinoiri's urging, Emi goes to meet Madoka in Radiant Heart's Nurse's office. Amy is also there to chat with Nurse Meiou about Doctor Who, but the nurse is out.
Cast of Characters: Emi Hoshino, Madoka Kaname, Amanda Faust

Emi Hoshino has posed:
Nurse's office. Madoka. Those two words rang in Emi's head as she made her way (slowly) through the Academy grounds later in the evening. She had been specifically ordered by Hinoiri to go. Carrot or the bat. So she greed, though getting there was a process. Walking around with her injuries kind of hurts, but she has gotten good -- very good at functioning with this kind of discomfort, though its true that it hasn't been this bad usually.

Arriving at the office, Emi pushes her way inside, looking for the so-called Madoka. To an observer, particularly one skilled in firsat aid, the goth is paler than she should be even under the pale make up she's wearing, some of which is already being ruined by how much she's been sweating just to get here. The fatigue is inescapable.

"Hello?" she calls out.

Madoka Kaname has posed:
Madoka is sorting through the medicine cabinet and taking inventory of what's available. There are two pink-haired fairies floating around her: Medo, who is wearing a flossie on her head and is taking notes on a small clipboard; and Brai, who is playing on a fairy-scaled gameboy-like device and not really paying attention to what's going on aside from making sure she's always floating within a foot of Madoka.

When Emi comes in, Madoka glances over and then blanks. It takes her a moment to decide if the girl is pale because of physical malady or because she's just goth, and eventually she realizes that it's probably both.

She shuts and locks the medicine cabinet before walking over to Emi and asks, "Hello! How can I help you?"

Medo, the little fairy dressed slightly like a nurse, silently follows after Madoka. She flips a page on her clipboard and starts making a new set of notes.

Amanda Faust has posed:
Amy enters the office, smiling! Somehow, she happens not to initially see Emi. "Setsuna-chan? I got ahold of the latest season of Doctor Who, the Christmas special too, do you wanna watch 'em together sometime?"

She's briefly surprised to see Madoka, but then she remembers one of Madoka's fairies is a nurse, and she has been having to provide more medical help lately. "Oh, hi Madoka! You've been helping Setsuna-cha-- err, Nurse Meiou out?"

And then she sees Emi. "Uh, Hoshino-san? What... what brings you here?" Amy asks, feeling a little bit awkward at how out of place her familiarity with Setsuna might seem, and not sure how to explain it.

She has no idea Emi's makeup is messed up, at least.

Emi Hoshino has posed:
The fairies draw her eyes and she just sort of stares at them without answering Madoka immediately., and thus, showing she can also see them.

"... okay then," she says after a moment. "Are you ... Madoka, then?" She asks. She'd say more but then Amy shows up. Emi stiffens her back immediately and tries to regain her composure. Can't look uncool in front of Amy, you know, she has an image to maintain here!

"...oh hey. What's up?" she says to Amy. "I'm cool. Just checking in with the nurse. Hinoiri said I should get to know a Madoka."

Madoka Kaname has posed:
Madoka smiles as Amy shows up, and pushes one of her pink bangs out of the way. "Well, technically I've been the nurse's aide for my class for years now, but I guess that kinda fell by the wayside with..." She pauses for a moment and glances towards Emi, whom she doesn't know. "... all of the volunteer work I've been doing." Yes, that works. If Kyubey had feelings he would be proud.

It would probably strike someone as odd that someone who calls herself 'goddess' one second would turn around and call herself an assistant in another, but to Madoka that's just the nature of being a magical girl.

Brai, who has been paying attention to nothing else, notices that she's being stared at and taps Madoka on the shoulder. The pink girl blinks at Emi. There's a subtle, unreadable change in her demeanor.

"Yes, I am Madoka Kaname. Meiou-sensei is out for the moment, but if you have a minor injury or need a quick checkup I might be able to help you." Tilting her head slightly to the side, she says, "Oh. Hinoiri-chan sent you."

There's a slight tinge of worry. If Hinoiri, of all people, is acknowledging her skill then this might be something serious.

Amanda Faust has posed:
Amy cannot comprehend the idea of someone needing to look cool for her and figures Emi's just trying not to slouch too much and hurt her back, or something.

She also doesn't find anything odd about Madoka calling herself an assistant. That's just Madoka, somehow throwing her heart into all her dreams and never letting any of it get to her head! Could someone with more of an ego really be a good Hope Concept?

Red eyes blink at Madoka. "Oh, okay, so this isn't some Freaky Friday shit where you wished to be a nurse and now you have to be School Nurse to the Mahou Shoujo while Setsuna-chan has to navigate the life of a part-time goddess."

She turns and looks between them. "Wait, Hinoiri sent you here? What happened? Did you get some weird magical sickness in a dream? Are you doing okay?"

Another thought enters Amy's brain. "...Or did she just think you should get to know more of your new comrades...?"

Emi Hoshino has posed:
Emi is used to seeing unusual stuff in her dreams. Fairies? No big deal in the dream world. Seeing them here is not unlike running into KenKen for everyone else, she assumes, but it's still weird.

"Uh huh. She said you knew, like, nursing stuff I guess." She lets out a breath and just sort of stands there a moment with the sort of tension in her posture that just screams 'ow' at the top of its lungs.

"Like the pink," she informs her, flicking her own purple or pink strands with her left hand. Her right arm is held close to her torso.

""Soooooo," she says, "...I'mgonnasitdown." And she does with a clear wince. Oh yeah. She's definitely hurting.

Madoka Kaname has posed:
Madoka giggles at Amy's comments and waves her hand reassuringly. "No, no, nothing like that. That'd be pretty crazy, though. I'd wonder what a Senshi would do with godlike powers, but we already have Princess Serenity."

When she hears Amy speak to Emi very plainly about magical matters, Madoka crosses her arms. She wasn't going to just call Emi out right at first, but... It's pretty obvious by now that they're both magically aware. Perhaps it's better this way. They can both be blunt.

As for Emi, well... both Amy and Hinoiri seem to know her. She probably isn't that bad, then.

"Dreams?" she asks, though she actually chooses to wait for Emi to explain herself a bit more. When she sees her most recent patient hurting, she gives a sympathetic wince before rushing to her side and trying to help guide her to a medical cot. "Take a seat here. Let me look you over." She's suddenly a bit more concerned than she was a minute ago, especially since Emi is clearly suffering. "Where does it hurt? Do you have any other symptoms? Headache, dizziness, loss of balance? How many fingers am I holding up?" She holds up three fingers.

Medo follows along and keeps writing things down, now more furious. Her tiny brow is furrowed with concern.

Amanda Faust has posed:
Madoka isn't the least bit astonished at Amy's hypothetical, because this is life now. Magic! She nods at the comment of Serenity's similar role. "I guess maybe you'd be able to make better sense of the alternate timeline stuff going on."

Emi wincing in pain when she sits down gets concern. "Woah, are you okay? No, wait, obviously not, you had to come to the nurse's office..." Madoka takes the lead, and Amy stands beside her and slightly to the side, in the position of Nurse's Assistant's Assistant, red eyes looking over Emi. "What happened?" she asks, but Madoka covers everything else; so Amy just listens and begins mentally cataloguing possible diagnoses, trying to figure out the pathology connecting the symptoms.

Emi Hoshino has posed:
"I didn't have to," complains Emi, "Some sleep and I'll be fine but Hinoiri wasn't gonna let it rest until I did."

She is getting cranky, Emi, largely on the grounds of really not liking being a subject of fussing. Still, she can't exactly stop them from putting her in a medical cot, to which she sinks into with some relief.

"Uhm," she begins, "Three. I was fighting a thing and it worked me over pretty good twice before I could put it down." Madoka might also notice some dried blood at the fringe of her fingerless gloves. Probably from punching things.

Madoka Kaname has posed:
"Alternate timeline stuff? Oh, do you mean with Hinoiri-chan?" she asks. "That whole thing is pretty wild, but honestly... I'm not surprised to see she's changed so much after a timeloop experience. It's a little hard to believe she's still the same Hino-chan. I'm still getting used to it."

Of course, no one has told her about Chibiusa yet. She says all this while looking over Emi, trying to see if the girl has any open wounds or cuts to make note of. When she notices the blood on the gloves, she asks, "Is that yours, or the monsters?" At least, she assumes it was a monster. "Would you mind taking off your gloves? I need to see your hands."

Emi's protests don't really reassure Madoka at all. If anything, they make her more worried. Especially since she isn't really answering all of her questions. This may turn out to be a difficult patient. Madoka retrieves a pair of latex gloves and puts them on before lightly poking and squeezing Emi in a few different places on her arm, starting from her wrist and working up to her elbow and shoulder. "Tell me if this hurts."

Amanda Faust has posed:
The Hinoiri stuff? "I meant the thing with your memories, but huh..." Amy nodnods at the comment about how Hinoiri has changed. "It's wild, but... I can barely imagine going through something like that."

As for Emi's story... "Weren't you not supposed to be fighting things? Even if you had no choice, couldn't you have called for help?" Amy blinks. "Oh right, cell phones don't work in dreams. Huh. That's gonna be a hard one to figure out a workaround for..." She starts tapping her chin.

"Don't you want to get better? Tell the doctor everything so she can figure out what's wrong with you and how to treat it."

Wait, Amy, you lost the thread here, Madoka's not a doctor!

She continues rambling a little. "I mean, even if it's kinda embarassing, it's not worth health problems, and dealing with that is just part of going to or being the doctor..."

She blinks and points at Madoka's hands. "Oh, wait, ask if she has a latex allergy before using those. That's probably... there's probably some sort of like, checklist somewhere..." Amy looks around, but has no idea where to find that and also wouldn't put it past Setsuna having memorized what even most doctors can't decades ago.

Emi Hoshino has posed:
Giving Amy a dirty look first as she's reminded not to fight things.

"I didn't," she tells her, "But this is why Hinoiri made me go over here in the first place while she went and put up the note. I just ... took a while." She was busy faffing about and find reasons not to do it. She really doesn't like the attention she's receiving over all. Her mismatched eyes narrow for a moment and then she lets out a pained breath before taking her gloves off. As suspeted, those knuckles are opened up and bruised pretty nicely. Whatever she was fighting, she was hitting it hard enough to injured herself from her dreams. "It's my chest and side," she explains. "First it smashed me into a car and got away, the next time it just zeroed in on it, pretty sure they're bruised." Even without a machine, Madoka will definitely find that they are perhaps a bit more than bruised. Actually, no perhaps about it.

Madoka Kaname has posed:
Madoka panics and realizes that she forgot about the latex allergy. "Ah! I should've asked first... eheh... well, do you?"

She winces and takes the gloves off just to be safe. "I guess I'm still learning... I'm not really a doctor. I only do First Aid during emergencies because like... well... I'm generally better than nothing, which is the only option we often have."

If there's a checklist outside of Setsuna's memory, Madoka doesn't quite know where it is.

Medo senses a moment of weakness or lack of confidence in her Chara Bearer and decides to intervene! "Chara Change! Become a super nurse!"

Before Madoka can get out a "Wait a min-" she's already undergoing a complete personality change. Somehow a flossie has appeared on top of her head and she's looking over Emi's knuckles, examining her sides and chest, taking her heart rate and blood pressure while also checking her breathing. She taps her chin thoughtfully before saying, "I think they're a little bit more than bruised. They seem cracked. Your ribs I mean."

Madoka glances around. This is, sadly, a school nurse's office and not a hospital. They do not have an X-Ray machine or an ultrasound. With a sigh, she considers calling Kamiko for this, but... That's probably not actually helpful or necessary.

"If this was happening at any other time, I would insist that you go meet our primary healer. Sadly, he's dealing with a different patient right now, and as serious as your injuries are..." Madoka frowns as she remembers the image of poor Junichi from the other day. "... I'm afraid that someone else has priority."

Madoka crosses her arms and looks at Emi. "I'm sorry, but I'm afraid you're going to have to take it easy for a while. Cracked ribs can heal on their own, but it will take weeks without magical assistance. I'd also recommend that you see a real doctor. Just to make sure we don't have any nasty surprises."

Then she points at the bruised and bloody knuckles. "These, however, I can treat. A bit of disinfectant and a bandaid will likely do. As long as you don't use them like that again." Then, hands on hips, leaning in. "How did this happen anyways? Do you not have a henshin? That should have protected you."

Amanda Faust has posed:
Amy's mouth gapes at the open wounds under gloves. "Those need to be disinfected and bandaged!"

And Emi keeps going. Chest and side. Smashed her into a car. And this fight was in reality where she has no powers?! "[Jesus, f***.]" Amy swears, fulfilling the American-character-in-an-anime swear quota for this episode. "[Holy crap.]" Oh okay she wasn't done. "Are you sure they're not broken? How much pain are you in?"

Amy gets up and starts looking around behind the counter, she's not sure for what. "Even if we had an x-ray machine, I've no idea how to operate one..."

Chara Change'd Madoka diagnoses them as cracked. "[Holy shit], really? That's... not good."

After opening some drawers and cupboards she brings bandages and antibiotic ointment to hand off to Nurse Madoka; "Wash your hands, with soap, in the sink, first." She directs Emi, and then heads back behind the counter.

"We've gotta have some pain meds back here somewhere... She might keep that locked, though. How are you standing and walking around with cracked ribs? Didn't this happen days ago? Her henshin only protects her in the dreamworld, doc." Madoka is not a doctor.

Amy blinks, and stands up behind the counter, looking at Emi and asking in confusion, "Didn't all this happen before you met Usagi and Mamoru? Why didn't you ask him for healing then?" She glances over Emi. "...There's no way he didn't tell you he can heal, if he saw how hurt you were."

Emi Hoshino has posed:
All of this earns a whole lot of staring from Emi. "I told her I just needed to tape them up, I'll be fine in a few days." A beat. "...weeks. Okay. I'll be there for weeks, I guess. Great." She still finds what Madoka went through entirely strange and she's marginally envious that she can apparently just ... be what she needs to be in the moment? She grimaces as a pained sigh escapes her an she realizes she has some things to explain to the unfamiliar. "...yeah, okay. See, some parts of the dreamscape are like the real world. Like, there can be city streets and everything and carst and what not -- though they're not really cars. More like car shaped blobs of dream energy that are more like the Idea Of Shape Of Car, but when you get smashed into one in the dream world, it can still hurt just as much as it does in the real world. Now, I'm tougher in dreams, sure. bit when I do get hurt there, it hurts me here too because... of reasons, I guess. I don't really understand it. Probably something to do with the magic that makes it all possible? So, the car got dented pretty hard and the Nightmare that did it was pretty strong, but not as strong as me. Managed to get away and lose me in the some dream-city-streets. I got it later, though, but that's when it hurt me again." She taps her side. So that's what happened."

She doesn't love talking about this. She doesn't* want to talk about this at all, really. Opening up? Trusting people? That's hard work.

"As for Mamoru, I am not going to bug him every time I get hurt, and anyway, I heard he's not available right now."

Madoka Kaname has posed:
So... Emi is magic, but she only has henshin armor in the dream world. Madoka's pink eyes go wide for a moment, then narrow as she frowns. She crosses her arms and says. You are apparently fighting youma with your bare fists and no henshin armor. What, do you think you're Sailor Jupiter?" When she hears the rest of the story, she releases her held breath and gets... significantly less livid. "Oh. I see. So you weren't being insane, it was just a rough part of the fight, and getting hurt in the dream also hurts you in real life."

She thinks about that last part for a bit. Sure, okay. Makes about as much sense as the rest of magic does.

On the subject of cleaning the open wound, Madoka insists, "Make sure you use the filtered water. Not just anything will do. Actually, I should probably do the cleaning myself."

"Also I am a nurse, not a doctor," she reminds Amy. "And X-Ray machines aren't something you just mess around with." Then she sighs and says, "I wish we had another magic healer on hand. If this were a matter of the soul or contract magic, I'd be able to help you a little more, but my miracles don't really handle matters like this. Even pulling all the crap I did as Hope Concept has me a bit exhausted magically."

On the topic of Mamoru, she says, "Yeah he's got a broken shoulder, and a patient who strongly needs him, so... you know..."

Madoka considers Emi for a bit, and then heads over to the sink and medical cabinet to get a few things before locking it back up. "Do you have any known medical allergies? Anything related to antibiotics? Iodine?" When she gets a few things together, she comes back over to Emi and starts to clean and treat her hands. It's a simple process, but she's very meticulous about it, and when she's satisfied with the setup she starts to wrap a bandage around them.

"You say that all you need is to sleep. Does that usually accelerate your healing somehow?"

Amanda Faust has posed:
X-ray machines are not to be messed around with. "Oh yeah no." Amy agrees. She's heard of the Therac-25 incident, and that was trained professionals messing up!

"'Every time you get hurt?'" Amy echoes. "This level of injury is not normal! You get some minor burns, cuts, scrapes, some 'just put antibiotic and a bandage on it and wait a few days because we're teenagers and we heal so fast' injuries, sure! Tough it out if you don't want to bother a healer! But cracked bone?! Fucking tell us! At the very least get actual medical attention from a nonmagic doctor!"

"Mamoru made very clear to me that he's fine with healing up less, too, so if you'd just asked him back when he wasn't busy..." She sighs.

She glances to Madoka, "Don't we have, um... maybe Sailor Charon could practice on her? She's got healing powers to learn to use, apparently." Then back to Emi. "Would that be alright, if our healers think it's a good idea? If someone's practicing on you to learn, then you're not wasting your time, you're giving them valuable experience so they can help other people later."

Emi Hoshino has posed:
"Any," begins Emi, "I need you to slow your roll. You're doing that whole jumping to judgement thing again," she tells her. "I did, in fact, reach out to Mamoru. That's how I know he's not available. It's cool. I get how it is." She glances back towards Madoka before cringing her way through the disinfecting and bandaging. She does not love it. Who would?

"The last thing I need to do is go to a doctor. Unsurprisingly, I'm really good at sleeping. Lemme put it that way."

She's still submitting to Madoka's mercies while some of the conversation just goes way over her head.

"Fighting a Nightmare is dangerous work. Who knew," she remarks.

Madoka Kaname has posed:
Madoka gives Amy a sideways glance as she mentions Sailor Charon, then frowns as she considers. "Well... I guess that's not a bad idea. She did help Mamo-kun the other day, didn't she?"

That day still gives her the shudders. As an experienced Witch huntress she has seen some pretty gruesome shit, but there are some things that one does not simply get over that quickly. She's almost glad that Junichi isn't magical, that the Veil will protect him from the trauma of what actually happened...

Of course, Emi has no such protection. She, like the rest of them, has to face reality.

"I'd ask Kamiko for medical equipment again, but she's exhausted after the fight with that cat-haired lady. I'm not going to be able to access her powers for a while." She shakes her head again and then crosses her arms... "This is about the limit of what I can do for you. I'd tell you to get a real checkup, but I can't force you to."

Once she's satisfied that she's done with bandaging the knuckles, she then turns around and starts putting up the stuff that she had taken out. "In the future, don't be afraid to ask Meiou-sensei for help. She..." Madoka pauses for a moment to consider how to say it. "She'll... understand, and she might be able to point you in the right direction."

After a moment's pause, she considers, "Is there a reason why you don't want to see a doctor? Actually... more than that." She glances over to Emi and asks, "Are you going to be able to sleep with injuries like that? Do you need something to help in that regard?"

Amanda Faust has posed:
Amy is still puttering around behind the counter checking drawers and cupboards, possibly not even sure what she's looking for anymore. She stuffs a handful of something into her skirt pocket. "Pain meds are probably in one of the locked ones. You should probably try some, though I dunno how much it'll help."

Wait. Amy can take advantage of some things, some moments, being etched in her memory.

Setsuna drops a very uncomfortable Amy who did not want to be moved dammit on the bed, and she shifts position, starting to curl up on her side then lying back and pulling up one knee -- no no focus on Setsuna what did Setsuna do, she went around that partition and there was the sound of opening cabinets--

    -- Now --
Amy disappears behind a partition deeper in the office and there's the sound of cabinets being opened and shut. "Found it!"

There's the sound of a pill bottle rattling, and then she comes back out to the front with a little plastic cup which she fills at the sink and holds out to Emi, and holds out in her other hand two little round orange pills. "Ibuprofin. Take two and call us in the morning. Or... really... I dunno, seek some better solution. I don't think you can just take these for the whole time bones will take to heal... I dunno. Ask a doctor."

She looks at Emi. "If sleep heals you, you'll find it easier to sleep when you're not in terrible pain. You know that, right?"

Emi Hoshino has posed:
"I'm really, really good at sleeping," repeats Emi, unconcerned with the pain on that front, it seems. "... mandatory reporting," she explains to Madoka. It's clear that, to her, there's a good reason for not going to a doctor. A glance towards Amy. She knows exactly who there'd be a report to if she showed up with injuries consistent with brawling at a hospital.

She accepts the ibuprofen with a sigh, downs it with a look of distaste. The look on Madoka's fae, however, draws her eyes back to her. "Appreciate the help," she adds, "Hinoiri was insitent I meet you and I guess I can kind of figure out why from here. There's a ghost of a smile there. "Yeah, I was told Meiou was cool people. I'm sure we're gonna get along fabulously."

She may have her doubts about that.

Madoka Kaname has posed:
Madoka glances over at Amy and kindof worries for a moment as the Puella digs around for medical supplies... oh, it's just some OTC stuff. Well, that's not too bad. "You don't have to take the pills if you don't want to, or if you're allergic to them or something, but they might help."

Madoka crosses her arms, glances at Amy, then at Medo, before looking back at Emi. "Well... I'll take your word for it. You're not the only one we've seen who has weird powers, so... I guess it's not too surprising. Just be careful, okay?"

Medo, who seems satisfied with Madoka's work, releases the Chara Change and lets Madoka turn back to normal.

"All the same, you should take it easy on yourself. Injuries that don't heal right will only make things worse for you. Especially when you get older. Do you need help walking out, or getting to your dorm? Or..." Madoka gestures to the cot. "... would you rather take a nap here?"

Amanda Faust has posed:
Mandatory reporting. Oh. "Shit. She's right, she's gonna have to answer questions from a really nosy adult if she gets reported. She said they even have the authority to search her room!" Amy sounds horrified at this invasion of privacy. "Setsuna-- Nurse Meiou is good, though, just... let her know your situation. Seriously, she is cool people alright." Beat. "Well, she's what I'd consider cool people. I suppose your tastes may differ."

Amy goes in back again and comes back with a little sample pack of the OTC pain pills to pass to Emi. "Here. In case you need more. Follow the dosage instructions. Well, don't take more than 1 extra, anyway."

Emi Hoshino has posed:
"You know what," yawns Emi, as she carefully maneuvers herself back onto the bed and closes her eyes.

She doesn't actually continue that thought becausse she's instantly asleep. She even snores.

Cutely.

No one tell her.

Madoka Kaname has posed:
Medo floats over Emi and says, "See you in our dreams, maybe."

Amanda Faust has posed:
    'Aww Medo is adorable

But also: Amy just stares as Emi just goes out like a light.

    "
Damn. She really is good at sleeping."
