Cho swung her staff in a low sweeping swing. Wuwu barely moved, instead his focus seeming to be on the comic he held in his hands. He used his tail to jump off the ground and avoid the strike with ease. She kept swinging, desperately trying to land a single strike while he duck and wove around them with ease.
“Will you stand still?” Cho asked angrily before thrusting out with the staff.
“Mmkay,” Wuwu said, his tail moving out and pushing against the tip of the staff, making it stop in place and making the ground around them shake for a moment. “Not sure how being a stationary target helps you get better, though.”
“Ughhhhh. Why can’t you fight like this when there are ACTUAL enemies around?” Cho asked.
Wuwu flipped a page of the comic before giving a light laugh. He then looked up. “Huh? Did you say something?”
“UGH! NEVERMIND!” Cho snapped before pulling back and storming away. “Stupid obnoxious monkey!”
Wuwu landed in front of her a moment later, an obnoxious grin on his face. “You are wayyyyy too stressed, you know that? You really should take a vacation. Just relaaaaax. Enjoy yourself. Eat some of those muffins you made earlier.”
“You ate them all,” Cho snapped.
“Make some more and eat those,” Wuwu said, the tip of his tail lightly tapping her forehead. “The term just started, nobody should be this tense in the first week. If I went to school I’d be relaxed alllll the time.”
Cho just glared at him. “You know you’re probably my biggest form of stress, right?”
“When have I ever done anything to cause you stress?” Wuwu asked with that cheeky grin of his that told her he knew EXACTLY when.
“How about this whole heavenly peach thing?” Cho asked.
“You wanted a solution, I gave you one,” Wuwu said.
“It’s not a solution I can do, though,” Cho said. “How can I get to heaven? Like… it’s not like I have an access point. It’s hopeless.”
Wuwu gave a soft sigh, looking serious for a moment. “You know, you do this a lot.”
“Do what?”
“Lose motivation,” Wuwu said.
“I didn’t lose motivation!” Cho snapped. “I’m just…”
“Oh, you really do,” Wuwu said before smirking again. “You just start to revert to old habits.” He leaped up, standing on her shoulders and lightly poking her forehead. She tried to swing at him with the staff, but he dodged around it to the other shoulder. “Remember when we got here? You were so gung ho about making friends and being, what was the word, one of the genki girls? At least like them?” He barely wobbled when she tried to spin to get him off, easily avoiding her swings as he duck and weaved around her like she was a tree. “When was the last time you really put yourself out there?”
“That’s not… I don’t…”
“Then there was finding a way to protect your friend. You tried… then started to give up until I, in my infinite offerings of help, gave you the solution,” Wuwu said.
“I didn’t give up, I just…” Cho said, glancing down.
“You like the familiar path,” Wuwu said, peering down at her upside down, his eyes a few centimeters from hers.
“… So I’m lazy,” Cho mumbled softly. “I’m sorry.”
“No,” Wuwu said. “I wouldn’t say lazy. The path isn’t *easy*. It’s familiar. But that’s what you wanted, isn’t it? To change everything? So why go back down to what you know? Why be who you were, when you can be amazing?”
“You mean be like you, don’t you?” Cho asked, flatly.
“I said amazing, didn’t I?” Wuwu asked. “How can you be so diligent about everything except what you want? You could stand to abuse my powers once in a while, you know.”
“I-I abuse them,” Cho said, her cheeks burning. “I elbow drop youma from super high up allll the time.”
Wuwu cocked an eye. “I said abuse, not attack in dramatic manners.”
“What, should I pick up cars or something?” Cho asked.
“You can make clones! Why not use them to do chores while you watch television or something!” Wuwu snapped, the frustration in his voice.
“W-what? That’s horrible,” Cho said. “First of all, that’d likely backfire. Second of all, that’d be such a waste of my powers. Third, I’ve done that a little when I need to clean things, and--”
“No, you use them to HELP you clean,” Wuwu said. “I said abuse and… ugh… How did I end up with someone so… so… responsible?”
“I don’t know,” Cho said softly. “I just… I guess… I’m… just not a good Wukong… I’m just...”
“Used to being pathetic? Lame? Miserable?” Wuwu asked, leaping off her head when she tried to smack him with the staff, instead hitting herself and wobbling before falling on her butt.
“Owwww…” Cho said. “Why are you bullying meeeeee? I’m trying to be good!”
“Why are you letting me?” Wuwu asked.
“I’m not,” Cho said. “That’s not how bullying works.”
“It does when you’re Wukong,” Wuwu said. “Is this how you intend to protect others? Protect your friend? Why do you even want this peach so much?”
“Because I don’t want her to get hurt,” Cho snapped. “Duh!”
“And?” Wuwu asked. “So what if she gets a little hurt?”
“Wuwu!” Cho snapped. “She’s my friend! I don’t want any of my friends to get hurt!”
“Oh? So it’s about you?” Wuwu asked.
“No!” Cho said. “I just… I don’t want anyone to get hurt!”
“Lots of people get hurt,” Wuwu said. “So are you going to get everyone a peach?”
“T-that’s not the same!” Cho yelled at him, her ire rising. “They’re not… she has to fight!”
“No she doesn’t,” Wuwu said. “So, why does it matter? It’d be a lot easier to just stop her from fighting if getting to heaven is so impossible.”
Cho felt her entire body twitching with rage. Why did it matter? “Because she’s my friend, okay? She’s my best friend! She makes me happy! She makes things easier! Is that what you want to hear? I want her to be okay because she means a lot to ME! Because I’m selfish and greedy and I want her to keep being around forever so I can have a best friend! If I tried to stop her from fighting, she wouldn’t like me anymore, but if she fights like this she’ll get hurt! So I want to fix it and I don’t know how! Okay? Happy?!”
“Yeah, pretty much,” Wuwu said before holding up the comic and reading again.
“… What?” Cho asked.
“You’re Wukong now,” Wuwu said. “Stop worrying so much about what everyone else thinks is right. Try doing what you want, kid. You’ve got a good heart, in the end? Following it’ll take care of the important bits. Just don’t forget to take care of yourself once in a while. And stop going back to being miserable. Nobody wants a Woobiekong.”
“… I don’t get this lesson,” Cho said.
“Maybe one day you will,” Wuwu said. “Hmmmm… come back here in a few days. Bring your friends.”
“What?” Cho asked.
“Well, you’re gonna go to heaven for a peach, right?” Wuwu asked. “Best to bring your friends to see it. You know, just in case. I’ll see you then.”
“Wait, what? You’ll help?” Cho asked.
“Only because it means so much to you,” Wuwu said before leaping into the air… and disappearing before he touched the ground.
Cho blinked a few times before sighing. “I really don’t get him...”
