My heart! UNLOCK!

The dreams of children, their would be self, the imagination and hopes of their future. It is these things that the encroachment of darkness on this world threatens, and therefore, it is these things which give certain exceptional individuals powers.

A person who is chosen to be a chara bearer will find a strange, highly decorated egg near them. When it hatches, it will become their source of power and mascot all in one - a tiny, exaggerated version of the future they see for themselves. For instance, someone who wants to be a great leader might see a tiny king version of themselves.

By merging with their character, Chara Bearers Henshin (a Chara-Nari) and become full fledged magical girls and boys, with an array of powers and abilities that relate to their Chara in some way. What Chara Bearers lack in raw strength they possess in diversity.

The downside is that their Chara is a part of them and thus can in rare circumstances take control of them, and push them to do things that will make them closer to their 'true self' - even if they'd rather not at the time. From blurting out hidden love confessions in school assemblies or becoming a laughing megalomaniac king, their idea of helping can often be embarrassing.

Without their Chara nearby they cannot transform, and Charas are individuals with their own curiosities and agency and may wander off from time to time. They can even refuse to allow their bearer to henshin with them. They are also affected by the moods of their bearer.

In their henshin form, Chara-Nari, Chara Bearers often take on very vibrant outfits reminiscent of the energy of their dream self. Chara Bearers tend to have very eclectic powersets tied to the thematic of the person they want to be, and are often very agile.
