Madoka's elbows rested on the railing of the second floor of the Eiffel Tower as she watched the sun set on the first real day of their impromptu Paris vacation. Homura was next to her, leaning back against the rail and watching her sweetheart. Pink eyes turn towards purple, and Madoka smiles softly. In this moment, the two are finally alone together, and at least one major weight is lifted off of their backs.
Homura looks at Madoka for a moment, then a sad thought crosses her mind and she looks down and away, at the streets and the people below. Feeling her girlfriend's curious stare she answers the question that wasn't being asked. "I just... I feel so stupid. I've run myself ragged, over and over again, only to find out that maybe I didn't really need to."
Madoka reaches up to cup Homura's cheek in her hand. "You didn't know. There's no way you could have."
"I should have had more faith," muttered Homura. "I should have waited."
With a soft voice, Madoka responds, "You made the choices that you had to because you needed to survive, and if you hadn't then we wouldn't have gotten here. If you needed to have more faith, then have faith this time."
Homura and Madoka gaze at each other for a quiet, intimate moment. They draw closer, only to stop as an opalescent Labyrinth portal opens right next to them.
Gretchen pops out with a tiny Chara-scale smartphone in her hands. "Doka-chan, I wanna eat a baguette but Lydian says I can't!"
Madoka gives her X-Chara a mortified stare. "Gretchen-chan... You'd get a stomach ache..."
The tiny Witch fairy gives Madoka a dirty look, then turns to Homura. "Homu-chan, you know I could, right?!"
With a firm voice, Homura chides, "Just because you can doesn't mean you should."
Gretchen, betrayed, crosses her arms and gives the two girls a grumpy stare. "I'm gonna do it and no one's gonna stop me! I'll show you all!"
As the X-Chara escapes into a portal, Homura and Madoka exchange worried looks. The pink girl asks, "Eheh... should we try to stop her?"
Homura shrugs. "Eh. Let her have her fun. This has been hard on her, too."
Madoka gives a worried look to the space where Gretchen was a moment ago, then with a slight amount of hesitation she agrees, "I guess so. I don't want to nag her too much."
The two turn back towards the sunset, silently watching the day turn into night. There will be more fights in the future, and yet more monsters to slay, but for this moment at least everything feels like it's going to be alright.
