(PHONE)Amanda Faust: So how did it go?

PHONE: Amy Faust is typing... ... ... ...

(PHONE)Usagi Tsukino texts: it was GREAT
(PHONE)Amanda Faust: I was going to joke about the equivalent bro text but typing such a question feels gross
(PHONE)Amanda Faust: Oh great!
(PHONE)Amanda Faust: GREAT?
(PHONE)Usagi Tsukino texts: tmi but we made out a lot. i'm a really cute boy. mamochan is a really cute girl
(PHONE)Usagi Tsukino texts: getting kabedon was just like in my manga, but like, better bc i love mamo
(PHONE)Amanda Faust: he changed too???
(PHONE)Amanda Faust: ...wait which manga
(PHONE)Amanda Faust: Happy you had fun!
(PHONE)Usagi Tsukino texts: fruits basket! kyo kabedons tohru (not that she noticed) when he's defending her from a bunch of boys making comments
(PHONE)Usagi Tsukino texts: yeah after i tried it he tried it, cause its fun
(PHONE)Amanda Faust: (She has the typing indicator but is either typing something really long or changing her mind about what to say...)
(PHONE)Amanda Faust: I'm so happy you both had fun!
(PHONE)Amanda Faust: I am like 10% confused as I didn't like being a boy that much and then 45% so excited that this happening in real life was a good thing for someone and they *get* it, and the other 45% anxious that if I say that the wrong way it'll come across creepy.
(PHONE)Usagi Tsukino texts: eh i mean you should just say what you want! but i mean i was a boy i was just me, still, and i didnt mind. but you were a girl not a boy so
(PHONE)Usagi Tsukino texts: makes sense you didnt like being a boy

PHONE:> Amy Faust texts: Wait hang on does the disguise pen change that too or is it just that you and Chiba-san are okay being either way?

(PHONE)Usagi Tsukino texts: the disguise pen just makes the disguise. i think we're both just okay being us no matter what bits we got
(PHONE)Amanda Faust: Well I *wanted* to say I'm so glad you get it, ONE OF US, ONE OF US, etc, but somehow texting you always kind of stumbles into new surprises?
(PHONE)Amanda Faust: Although maybe 'huh, I'm okay either way' doesn't seem like a big realization from the inside?
(PHONE)Amanda Faust: 'one of us' referring to gender-bending fans not trans people I suddenly realize that was terrible vague
(PHONE)Amanda Faust: *terribly
(PHONE)Amanda Faust: I need an edit button today
(PHONE)Amanda Faust: Oh wait maybe that too I guess? I dunno if okay with both counts or what the protocal is
(PHONE)Amanda Faust: Disguise pen make me someone whos tops putting her fut in hr mouth!
(PHONE)Usagi Tsukino texts: oh, haha. genderbending fan def apparently! i never really looked into that, but it was a really fun time
(PHONE)Amanda Faust: I have so many manga
(PHONE)Amanda Faust: I still need to check out Fruits Basket
(PHONE)Amanda Faust: Okay not *exactly* Zenbu Kimi no Sei but there is no match for exactly this situation. I think.
(PHONE)Amanda Faust: Sory yeah I kinda do keep comparing life to manga we talked about that
(PHONE)Usagi Tsukino texts: i mean! i'm still myself but i'm a boy and i'm like, super hot
(PHONE)Amanda Faust: That's really cool! Magic is amazing!
(PHONE)Amanda Faust: And uh yeah I thought I talked about genderbending? It is a whole thing yeah... A niche but one that got more of an audience with the internet and is now pretty popular here! Although I am not sure numerically how it compares to more mainstream genres.
(PHONE)Amanda Faust: And now I'm stuck in one such story and I guess so are you... Well maybe not, I guess it's not like you're going to school like that. Are you?
(PHONE)Amanda Faust: No how would that even work
(PHONE)Usagi Tsukino texts: Yeah, i think you've talked about it a little, but i didn't realize it was a whole like genre you know? but nah i'm not going to school like that, but i'll probably do it again sometime. it was *fun*, and being someone who wasn't me made it easier to you know, talk about stuff.
(PHONE)Usagi Tsukino texts: but even if i didn't have magic, i'd probably be okay withy dressing up as a boy. except i wouldn't want my hair that short, so i'd have to put it up somehow. oooh maybe do a chinese style, like in the manhua!
(PHONE)'Amanda Faust: I confess if I knew then what I knew now I might have been okay with dressing up as a girl, way back when. I did not think it would possibly look good at the time
(PHONE)Amanda Faust: Guys can have long hair but I confess I do not know much about wearing it in different styles.
(PHONE)Amanda Faust: I'm sure we must know someone who knows about styling hair although then you'd have to tell them
(PHONE)Amanda Faust: Or no I guess they don't have to know about the magic you can just say you're into drag. I dunno if that is more or less embarrassing.
(PHONE)Usagi Tsukino texts: oh guys can totally rock long hair, Nephrite has long hair and Kazuo has longish hair, but I have like, my hair is longer than i am tall
(PHONE)Usagi Tsukino texts: if i put it down, i mean, out of the buns
(PHONE)Usagi Tsukino texts: and idk if i'd use the buns if i was a boy with long hair
(PHONE)Amanda Faust: Oh damn really? That IS long. Well someone who knows about hair styling might still have suggestions
(PHONE)Amanda Faust: I confess it is hard to picture a guy with the odangos. Or any kind of twintails. Or loops or something.
(PHONE)Usagi Tsukino texts: yeah, i mean i always think of twintails as feminine, but i bet a boy could pull them off, it'd just need to be something we saw first, maybe
(PHONE)Usagi Tsukino texts: and yeah! its super long. mamochan was really sad when i was sailor eclipse the first time, because it was so short and he wanted to brush it, haha
(PHONE)Amanda Faust: Aww good thing that was temporary!
(PHONE)Usagi Tsukino texts: seriously! i mean, my hair grows really fast, but that still would have taken a few months probably
(PHONE)Usagi Tsukino texts: also, idk what drag is, is that like... when okama dress up?
(PHONE)Amanda Faust: yeah I dunno maybe? There are a lot of possible styles and we're probably just not thinking of it, I could see there being one that makes us go 'ohhhhh yeah that DOES work' once we see it
(PHONE)Amanda Faust: 'when okama dress up' would probably be a close enough cultural translation to what an English speaker would think of yeah. People doing that would be 'drag queens', but there's also the reverse, 'drag kings'. At least conceptually. I really don't know much about queer stuff, I thought I was a straight guy until last September and well I'm in a really weird situation to approach it all from, you know?
(PHONE)Usagi Tsukino texts: that makes sense - i know about queer stuff and language but the scene isn't like, super big or open. At least, outside of RHA! I don't think I've ever met as many queer people as I have here.
(PHONE)Amanda Faust: Right??? I was saying to Taro awhile ago that we should find whatever queer student organization there is and meet folks who know and can explain like... I dunno, all that? Although I dunno what to tell them about me. It feels kinda stolen valor to claim being intersex or something.
(PHONE)Amanda Faust: Ohn right Lesbian and some kinda ace right duh
(PHONE)Amanda Faust: Does it even still count as lesbian if I'm some kinda ace or demi or something and maybe 1% like boys I don't know? See that is exactly the kind of stuff they could explain!
(PHONE)Amanda Faust: Oh right he had another idea that we should like. I dunno start a group at the shed or something? There seem to be a lot of us among the magicals, so maybe there's already some folks who are more knowledgeable and it just hasn't come up while fighting monsters?
(PHONE)Usagi Tsukino texts: I mean, you can be lesbian and demi, I mean, why not? Lesbian means you like girls, not that you have want to do, you know all the rest? And if you only like boys a tiny bit, why not count?
(PHONE)Usagi Tsukino texts: I dunno if we have a club like that - I've never seen one, anyway. But that kind of stuff isn't always talked about openly - you know, that old thing about the nail that sticks out being hammered down, all that.
(PHONE)Usagi Tsukino texts: But a club in the Shed, among us magical types, could be cool. I mean, a lot of us can't explain everything to non-magic folks, right?
(PHONE)Amanda Faust: I don't know! I don't wanna assume.
(PHONE)Amanda Faust: And yeah, magical queer club sounds like a great idea! It also sounds like a Summer 2025 anime hit if the networks /dare/
(PHONE)Usagi Tsukino texts: but I think you can assume about yourself, you know?
(PHONE)Amanda Faust: Uhhhhhh I keep meaning to finish it bit every time I come back to her being bullied out of the robot test course I feel too uncomfortable to co9ntinue
(PHONE)Amanda Faust: Assume about yourself... this sounds a little like what you were trying to explain a year ago? If I had assumed I was a girl I would have been spared some grief. And gotten a lot of other grief if I assumed it before last July, unfortunately...
(PHONE)Usagi Tsukino texts: yeah... it would have been a lot of grief, but in a different way, maybe yeah.
(PHONE)Usagi Tsukino texts: It's really good but she does get bullied a lot. The war stuff is brutal too and I dunno if I could watch it again, now, after remmebering, but, I liked it.
(PHONE)Amanda Faust: Oof. Yeah one day I'm gonna see, by coincidence, an anime about an ancient kingdom on Earth or the Moon falling and maybe it'll be too real.
(PHONE)Amanda Faust: I guess I just need to know what episode anmd timestamp to pick up at so I don't run into it every time I try to figure out where I left off
(PHONE)Amanda Faust: If Witch from Mercury is as openly gay as fans make it sound that's wonderful that things are more accepting now. It's only been almost 30 years since Tomino wanted to have a female main character and was told no. Progress!
(PHONE)Amanda Faust: ...If Chiba-san is okay with it can I see a picture?
(PHONE)Usagi Tsukino texts: I didn't take any, but I'll ask him next time! I'm sure she'd say yes.
(PHONE)Usagi Tsukino texts: and yeah, it's - you know, it makes me glad that my favorite manga are romance, because whether its shoujo or josei it usually doesn't touch too hard on the things I don't like to think about.
(PHONE)Usagi Tsukino texts: Witch from Mercury was PRETTY gay. They tried to downplay it later, but there's only so long two girls can be engaged before you have to admit it's gay.
(PHONE)Amanda Faust: lol
(PHONE)Amanda Faust: I am *sure* some anime has done it and refused adamantly
(PHONE)Amanda Faust: The world is slowly getting better, I guess.
(PHONE)Usagi Tsukino texts: duh! of course it's getting better. as long as people work for it to get better, it will
(PHONE)Amanda Faust: Troll answer: Ranma. Seven seasons, 42 manga volumes. He's a guy but Akane's older sisters successfully argue she's the one who should end up engaged to him because "you hate boys, well Ranma's only half a boy!" By that logic it was half gay, and boy did it never admit it!
(PHONE)Amanda Faust: next time???
(PHONE)Amanda Faust: Still kind of amazed this may be a regular thing for my friends!
(PHONE)Amanda Faust: Are we really gonna do karaoke sometime while Hinoiri measures our voices for magic science because that would be pretty damn cool
(PHONE)Usagi Tsukino texts: oh there's definitely going to be a next time. i mean, it wasn't just about the making out, but, the making out was really good. heck, v-chan has a disguise compact too, so we're gonna see what both of us swapping is like
(PHONE)Amanda Faust: Oh my god
(PHONE)Usagi Tsukino texts: this is *fun*! it's like getting to know more of me, and more of mamochan.
(PHONE)Usagi Tsukino texts: and sure, i'm down for karaoke!
(PHONE)Amanda Faust: I ddn't know there were *two* of them
(PHONE)Amanda Faust: yes that does increase the possibilities
(PHONE)Usagi Tsukino texts: yep, there are two! my disguise pen and her cosmic crescent compact.
(PHONE)Amanda Faust: Happy for both of you!
(PHONE)Amanda Faust: It's like something out of my manga!
(PHONE)Usagi Tsukino texts: it's honestly nice to see something *fun* that's from the manga, instead of all the grim dark
(PHONE)Amanda Faust: Although most of them do not consider any reltionships where both partners could be either way. Uhh... All Because of You and Witch's Servant are the only ones that come to mind there
(PHONE)Amanda Faust: HONESTLY YEAH
(PHONE)Amanda Faust: Fun from manga coming to life good, we have enough grimdark
(PHONE)Usagi Tsukino texts: we'll figure out a good time for karaoke soon, maybe
(PHONE)Amanda Faust: Yessss!
(PHONE)Amanda Faust: Genderbending karaoke for magic science is the most El Goonish Shive my life will ever be and I'm here for it
(PHONE)Usagi Tsukino texts: you're gonna have to explain all those words to me sometime. but later! i gotta go~!
