The Game
The entity known as Balance, a mysterious non-corporeal 'god' or great spirit whose true nature is a mystery, believes that the only way to avoid eternal stagnation is to ensure the Great Struggle between the Light and the Dark never ends. To this end, he empowers Arbiters through a magical contract to serve him by training the next generation of magical girls and boys and ensuring the battle continues forever. In return, the Arbiters get to escape the Fade- at least partially, for while they can still exist beyond the Veil and use magic, that magic is limited in scope, a shadow of what it was before.
But what happens when the Arbiters chosen for this generation are not content to serve Balance's agenda? To put an end to eternal war, to regain lost powers, and to escape the grip of the Fade- lofty ambitions and the ultimate prizes for those who would play the Game.
But is it even possible? Can the Game ever truly be won?
