| Penguin Park, a large public park in Pikarigaoaka, has a large section dedicated to museums.
Penguin Park is also home to three museums: The Pikarigaoka Science and Natural History Museum, the Art Museum at Penguin Park, and the Tokyo Local History Museum. Each of these three museums is located along the outskirts of the pond at Penguin Park, with the Tokyo Local History Museum being closest to Animal Kingdom, the Pikarigaoka Science and Natural History Museum being closest to the playground, and the Art Museum being sandwiched in between. The Pikarigaoka Science and Natural History Museum is housed in a large three-story building, and offers exhibits on pre-historic creatures (including a dinosaur exhibit adored by children and adults alike) and modern animals alike, minerals, gems, and stones, as well as exhibits on chemistry, physics, and more. The Art Museum at Penguin Park is a small, two story museum featuring an array of classic Japanese artworks, ranging from pottery, sculpture, ink painting and calligraphy, woodblock prints, ceramics, and ukiyo-e paintings. The museum frequently has small, temporary exhibits dedicated to upcoming and current festivals, and will feature art pieces from local creators at these temporary exhibits. And finally, the Tokyo Local History Museum is dedicated to the history of Tokyo itself, from the pre-Tokugawa era all the way through modern times, sharing the story of the city through artifacts, paintings, photographs, and testimonials. The museum seeks to honor the heritage of the city it, and the majority of visitors, calls home. The festivals at Penguin Park are often organized by the staff of the Tokyo Local History Museum. | ||||
