A Study of Cats
Date of Scene: 20 August 2025
Location: Cafe BAKE Neko
Synopsis: Welcome Kaoru to the MUSH! He meets some new friends and learns about Earth cats in the Cat Cafe.
Cast of Characters: Mamoru Chiba, Laisa Samuiko, Chiyo Sakai, 304

Mamoru Chiba has posed:
It's hot out, but the cat cafe is air conditioned. It's not very crowded; it's about three in the afternoon, which is a lull in the cafe world, and there are only a few customers scattered around the place.

Mamoru Chiba's got his stuff set up on a table that he's dragged a couple of other tables to, apparently in preparation for more people showing up. He's got his tablet, a stack of textbooks, a big thing of sugary iced coffee, and his notebooks from last year. Someone's wife is in summer school.

Mamoru sips.

Laisa Samuiko has posed:
    The cold never bothered Laisa.

... but heat is something else.

Laisa's walking down the sidewalk, slushie in hand, sipping on it to keep cool. She's daydreaming about catgirls and phantom thieves. Well, more precisely she's daydreaming about a specific catgirl phantom thief. She's also silently hoping that a youma attacks something nearby so that she'll have an excuse to create Winter in August.

She passes by the Cat Cafe. Her red eyes glance inward, noticing a familiar face. Deciding that company and air conditioning sound appealing right now, she turns in. A menu catches her eye for a moment as she silently hopes there's something cold she can order, but instead of looking it over she walks up to Mamoru's table while sipping from her slushie.

"Hey," she says. "How's the wife and kid?"

Chiyo Sakai has posed:
Summer School was the bane of many a magical girls' existance. Just not Chiyo's. Yet she knew that Usagi was going through it, as were a few others, and today was clearly a day to catch up in more ways than one.

The A/C was a welcome change from the heat of the street as she steps inside pausing only breifly to inhale the cooler air deeply. A bag is slung over her shoulder with some of her notebooks from classes in the hopes it might help as she approaches Mamoru's table. Laisa earns a tip of her head in greeting as well though she asks, "Hi Mamo-kun. Preparing for a cram session?"

Kaoru Kyrkogrim (304) has posed:
Kaoru was relived to feel the cool air of the cat cafe. He wasn't sure what technology was used to produce this effect but he was ever grateful for it. The fact the cafe was near empty too made him even happier. As he looks at the causal scene in front of him, he notes that an older has seemed to pick this spot as a study area. He couldn't blame him, the place was comfortable especially when outside was sweltering. He turned to take a battered book out of the bookshelf to read. Through he paused when he heard other people coming. The girl with a slushie that seemed to be studying with him. Nothing strange until he heard her make a comment about his wife and child, which made him look back at the boy with surprise. Another girl entered the cafe shortly after but Kaoru was still focused on the boy who seemly has a family already. Do he get held back or is this normal for people on Earth?

Mamoru Chiba has posed:
Mamoru looks up at Laisa and smil-- *grins* she asked the magic question, and he pushes a chair out for her with his foot before waving to Chiyo as she approaches. "Well, the wife should be getting out of summer school soonish. The kid should be trying to catch up like four grades at once, but she'll actually do the work without having to be sat on, mostly," he answers Laisa, and Chiyo too, if in a more roundabout way. "I still can't believe her parents let her come back with us."

He makes an 'ehh' gesture, wobbling his hand a little. "Not so much cram as going for retention."

Mamoru looks up at the door opening, then watches this eleven-year-old examining the cats like they're aliens and giving him surreptitious looks. He tilts his head a little -- the kid looks a little like he did at that age. "Hey, are you a time traveler?" he calls over, not overly loudly, but conversationally enough in the quiet that the barista rolls her eyes from where she's scritching an enormous calico maine coon. Apparently the older boy is a regular, or a regular headache.

Laisa Samuiko has posed:
Laisa sees Chiyo come in at about the same time as her and lifts a hand to wave in her direction.

Laisa's lips smile around the straw of her slushie as she sees her slightly joking question was taken in good spirit. Not that she ever expected it to be taken otherwise. She takes the offered chair and has a seat, glancing at the books and feeling silently relieved that she isn't the one who had to spend over a month being evil.

"They must really trust you. They're good folks, her parents, and I'm not just saying that because they liked my sculpts."

Mamoru calls attention to Kaoru, and Laisa glances back at him. "Did you really just ask that person if they're a time traveller?" she asides to Mamoru, before raising her half-empty slushie cup to say. "Hey! Are you new in town?"

Chiyo Sakai has posed:
Chiyo Sakai moves toward one of the seats at the table without really waiting for an invitation to do so. One hand lingers on the back of the chair as she unslings the bag to swing forward resting it on the chair seat.

"I think if they could trust anyone, they could trust you," she points out with an amused grin. "I have to admit I'm kind of happy my neice will be around longer. I'd like to get to know her more!" Okay not quite 'neice' but 'cousin four times removed' was a mouthful.

At Mamoru's question her attention shifts over to glance at Kaoru as well with a rapid blink. "Mamo! You can't just *ask* somebody that! I think you need to buy them a drink first." It's all said in a jesting tone to make it clear she's just joking as well.

Kaoru Kyrkogrim (304) has posed:
Despise his curiosity on both the married boy and the cat he remained distant from both.

The boy because he wasn't the reason he came here today, through he was strange...

and the cats because he saw what they did to the books...

He never saw such pointless cruelty enacted on an inanimate object before and he didn't want to be next. Through the beasts seem calm today. The barista was even petting a particularly big one. It was making him reconsider his fear. r
% The question the older boy asked him kept him from deciding whether he had courage to approach them though. Kaoru looked at the group with a blank expression. "No I'm not a time traveler, just a regular one. Through I'm new in town. So I've taken upon myself to conduct some research," He said the whole thing matter-of-factly as if this was a normal thing to be asked, "I'm currently studying cats." He point to a grey one that was currently lounging in the corner. "Also if it would to try the drink your holding. It would be rude to refuse, if getting brought drinks after getting asked something is common etiquette." Also he asked other people questions before so he'll have to apologize for his rudeness when he sees them again. Expect for those Obsidian employees, they deserved the rudeness even if it was accidental.

Mamoru Chiba has posed:
The older boy is snickering at the girls' reactions to his question, and he starts to protest-- but the boy answers, and his answer's so weird that it makes Mamoru absolutely positive there's nothing 'regular' about that travel he's talking about. He is, of course, aware he could be a thousand percent wrong.

Mamoru looks down at the drink he's holding, then back up at Kaoru, and he starts laughing. "That's not the common etiquette here, no. But that was slick, so sure." He lifts a hand and waves to the barista, then points at his own cup, then points at Kaoru. Over at the counter, she nods and goes to make Kaoru some sweet iced coffee thing.

Then without missing a single beat, he says, "Come have a seat. I'll ask my cat if she'll do an interview for your study. Anko!"

The large -- oh so very large -- calico Maine Coon lugubriously stretches herself to her feet and then jumps off the counter. She's honestly almost as big as a border collie right now, and she wasn't a moment ago, but now she is and the impact makes the floor shake. She minces her way over delicately.

"You might have to bribe her with licky treats for correct answers though."

Laisa Samuiko has posed:
Laisa also hears Kaoru's response and... yeah that's a little odd. Stilted, maybe? She's not sure what the story is there but it's certainly not what she expected. Maybe this new person is still getting used to the language? That must be it.

Her hand reaches over to Anko to give her a few scritches behind the ear as she passes. Laisa doesn't really have much studying to do at the moment, so she gets to play with cats. At least for now. When she notices Mamoru ordering another iced coffee for their new guest, she says, "Oh! One for me too, please."

Then to Kaoru, she asks, "So you're studying cats? I'd say you've found a few. Is there a specific thing you're trying to figure out, or is this just a general personal interest?"

Chiyo Sakai has posed:
Chiyo Sakai hesitates with a glance that shifts from Mamoru to Kaoru several times. Lips press tightly together as a single eyebrow raises in clear suspicion. He's already being invited over though, so she merely gives a dip of her head toward the others. "Yes, come join us. And most cats don't talk don't talk for the record. Just a few special ones." This last is added a bit quieter but meant for Kaoru to overhear just in case he starts to believe they ALL talk.

"Oh, can I have a..." She pauses clearly debating herself over a drink. "A coffee milk," she opts even if it's not her usual order. Usually it was tea or the like.

Kaoru Kyrkogrim (304) has posed:
Good. He couldn't afford buying drinks for every person he ever asked a question to anyway. The boy said he was slick. Even through he lacked knowledge on the meaning, he knew that it was the reason he got the drink, so it's still deserved.

As for a cat interview--the sudden size change was startling but he couldn't be deterred. These new people (hopefully) wouldn't let him be clawed to death if he angered it somehow. He wished he brought some cat treats over now. Maybe the cat would accept a mysterious drink with him instead.

He answered Laisa's question without looking away from the large cat. "I'm trying to find out their typical behavior and why there is a cafe full of them." He cautiously reached out a hand to pet this strange cat. "The latter I have concluded it must be for comfort. Cats seem quite lazy and messy so I don't they are used for any kind of labor." Plus the cat he was petting right now is very soft.

He hummed when he heard Chiyo's clarification. "I'm assuming most cats don't grow either then?" Once again a relief. Though if that was the case he was sure there would be more damage in the cafe. "Also is this cat fond of drinks too? I don't have any licky treats on me so I'm willing to share for the sake of research.

Mamoru Chiba has posed:
Mamoru relaxes. The kid is weird enough that he didn't blink at a size-changing cat, he's found his people. "Some human foods aren't safe for cats, and that includes things to drink, so it's safest to only let cats eat meat or foods that have cats on the labels somewhere. I'll get you a churru packet, hang on."

The cat says, "Anko will not answer until there is churrrrrrrrru." Her voice is rumbly and purring, and she starts headbutting into the scritching Kaoru hand at the same time as she curl-brushes her tail against Laisa with a little lean in passing.

Up at the counter, Mamoru's getting Chiyo's drink, Kaoru's drink, and Laisa's drink, and also a licky treat. He's not sure how he ended up buying *and* ferrying, but it is what it is. (He makes two trips instead of getting a tray.)

Laisa Samuiko has posed:
Anko's words gets a smirk from Laisa as she sips from her slushie. Her cold drink consumption has slowed down a bit since entering the air conditioning, but she was nearly done with it anyways. She pops off the top and stirs around the cold slush to try and get the last little bits out before it all melts away.

"Cats are for petting and cuddles, not labor," says Laisa, matter of factly, "but you can't just pet any cat you want. If you don't have the cat's permission, they'll walk away and wont let you play with them." She says this in the same tone as an expert giving a lecture. "Also sometimes they hunt pests. Like mice, and annoying jerks."

When Mamoru gets back with the drinks, Laisa realizes that he paid for them and feels a little awkward about it. So she takes from her pocket the cash that she intended to pay with and slides it towards Mamo when he comes back. "Thanks."

Chiyo Sakai has posed:
Chiyo Sakai sinks down into her claimed seat pushing the bag of bookwork aside just a bit. Not enough to push it off, but not enough to fully sit on the chair either. She's twisted to the side as if she were side-saddle on a horse with her skirt carefully swept over her legs politely.

"No, they don't really grow either. Even the other talking ones don't grow. There's only a few here, and ... They're alien aren't they?" The question is given toward Mamoru when he returns even as she reaches out to take her own drink.

"My thanks to the landlord."

"Anko is 'local' though, and so is Bonito when he's around... but he just *looks* like a cat. She's right though," she adds with a tip of her head toward Laisa. "Cats are more companions. And a cafe like this is to try and help them find new homes with others. This provides a safe place to meet them and make sure their needs are met until they find their people."

"I'm Chiyo Sakai, by the way. It's nice to meet you."

Kaoru Kyrkogrim (304) has posed:
"Thank you." Getting an interview from a genuine cat, even if it was a particularly strange one, was great for research. So the licky treats were a valuable resource to have. He wasn't sure if the head-butting was a good sign or not but he wasn't getting scratched so the cat couldn't have been responding that negatively to him.

Kaoru nodded with the explanation Laisa provided. He looked back at Anko. "Next time I'll come with a licky treat and ask first." He was lucky it still allowed him to pet it despite his rudeness. At the annoying jerks comment he responded: "Maybe I get a cat too." If they did hunt jerks than a cat sounds like a great ally to have. Though he was unsure how one would fare with a normal Armed Device. He didn't even have an extra Armed Device for the poor thing to use. Maybe his cat would have to stick to mundane jerks instead.

When Mamoru returned with the drinks, Kaoru ceased his petting and took his drink and the licky treat. He sat down in the closely remaining seats as he opened the licky treat packet. He eyed his drink as he reached out to offer his treat to the large cat. "Thank you for letting me pet you. Also if you see a blue hair kid about my age please make sure to hunt him. I believe he fits the category of "pest" perfectly."

When he hears Chiyo Sakai explanation he asks Anko. "What planet are you from? Did you come to Earth for a vacation or was it an accident?" Considering this cat gets free shelter and food it was a good deal even if living in the cafe was an accident.

After his questioning he turns back to Chiyo. "I'm Kaoru Kyrkogrim."

Mamoru Chiba has posed:
Mamoru's expression changes slightly -- there's a hint of wry gratitude -- and he takes the money and pockets it with a nod. "Sure," he says easily, again, with a smile. He reaches down to scritch Anko's back idly, then opens the churru packet and shows Kaoru how to squeeze a little out at a time, and hands it over.

When he sits down again, himself, he laughs at Chiyo's landlord comment, then nods in agreement with what she says about cats and the cafe. "They're alien, yeah. Space cats with human forms. Anko probably--" he starts, and then thinks better of it because Anko knows where he sleeps. "Uh, anyway, right, yeah, and I'm Mamoru Chiba. It's good to meet you, Kyrkogrim-san. We all go to Radiant Heart Academy. Are you enrolled there for after summer break?"

Anko gives Mamoru a dirty look and gently crowds Kaoru with warm fluffiness, licking the licky treat for a moment before answering Kaoru. "I am from herrrre," she says, unable to keep the purr out of her voice, "but the Mauans arrrre not. They have moons on theirrrr faces-- a black cat, a white cat, and a grrrrrey kitten. They advise the Moon Prrrrincesses, and live here now." Lick lick lick. "Anko will hunt forrrr salmon sashimi."

"She's very mercenary," Mamoru says a little weakly.

Laisa Samuiko has posed:
"Laisa Samuiko," she says, so that she isn't the only one here who forgot to give her name.

Chiyo Sakai has posed:
"Local," Chiyo agrees again with Anko's explanation. She seemed more informed on the Mauans than she was after all! Though she wasn't offering any churu treats she does reach out to gently pat Anko in passing. "Just like me. Being a local I mean."

With that she allows Anko or whomever to explain further... though her head tilts at mention of the blue haired boy. She knew a few.

Laisa Samuiko has posed:
"Laisa Samuiko," she says, so that she isn't the only one here who forgot to give her name. "And I'm also 'local'. Well, technically my family's from Osaka, but that's still pretty local." She notices a cat nuzzling against her feet and she picks it up to place it on her lap. "Cats are the best, really."

"So... this blue haired kid. Is he also from... out of town?" Laisa asks while petting and scritching the cat. "Also are we talking a light blue or a dark blue? Pale or deep? Sorry just... there's a lot of blue hair around."

Kaoru Kyrkogrim (304) has posed:
"I am. Going to school is a good way to become accustomed to this place." Plus it's that or wandering the streets all day, so school was the preferable option. Kaoru smiled slightly as he's enveloped in fluffiness. No wonder cats were used for comfort.

"I guess I'm not the only one struck here." Why someone as important as princesses were sent to Earth he didn't know. He settled on either a diplomatic mission or exile. He nods at the cats last comment. "I would prefer if you did it without having to be paid off. He is genuinely dangerous you know. But help is help so I'll give you that sashimi if I can get it." He glance at Mamoru with that last comment. It was selfish to use him as a personal bank but he was the only source of resources Kaoru really knew at the moment. Went he was finished petting Anko he paused to look at them. "Are you satisfied or do you want more?"

He nodded in agreement at the cat comment. When he heard her last question his smile fainted. "Yes. He traveled with me but we'll apart now. We had a falling out."

Mamoru Chiba has posed:
"If Anko sees a small blue-hairrrred human boy, Anko will get Mamorrrru," the giant cat says agreeably.

"Anko, don't fight hu--" Mamoru starts, then blinks at Anko, who licks Kaoru with her giant sandpaper tongue. "Yes, fine, get me. Kyrkogrim-san, do you want me to text you or something if we find this guy? The more description the better. Especially if he's as dangerous as you say."

Anko licks the licky treat one more time, then seems to be done for now. She drops her feet back down to the floor, scentmarks Kaoru with a very heavy leeeean-and-push, then starts swanning off without answering out loud.

"I'm not paying her sashimi to turn a kid into sashimi," Mamoru tells the younger boy, shaking his head. "She's a cat, not a magical girl."

Chiyo Sakai has posed:
Chiyo Sakai crinkles her nose just a bit as she considers the whole 'blue haired guy' thing. She knew a few after all. One in particular who she would definitely rank as 'dangerous', however she knew for a fact that he was most certainly as much a local to this planet as she was.

"I'm going to say it's not Sugata you're looking for. I'll keep an eye out too then, I guess. Do you know his name or...?" Of course names might not be offered if he was dangerous. "Or what he wears?"

She reaches for her coffee milk to take a quick sip of it testing how well she likes it. It's not bad though, so she takes another and falls silent as the others agree that Anko should not be sashimi-ing anyone.

Laisa Samuiko has posed:
Laisa takes a sip of her iced coffee while scritching the cat in her lap. "Yeah I think if you actually want to do magical combat you're going to need something more than a cat." She thinks she may as well just say it out loud by now. If Mamoru's time traveller question didn't already break the Veil ice, the talking cat certainly did. "They're not really capable of handling something like that on their own."

"That said, anything you could tell us about this guy might be helpful. What exactly did you have a falling out over, if you don't mind me asking?" She imagines there's an interesting story behind that. There usually is.

Laisa, also, is not particularly volunteering to pay sashimi to get Anko to come along with this. Not when she doesn't exactly know what the dangers are.

Kaoru Kyrkogrim (304) has posed:
"Thank you." Karou flinched when he felt the cat's rough tongue. Whatever a tongue like that is used for he didn't know. "I don't have a phone, unfortunately, it was a rough travel here. Though I do encourage you to get me if you find me. He's shorter than me with green eyes. Though one is normally covered by his hair. He pauses to look at the cat as it pushed against him then looked back at Mamoru. "He sometimes carries an gold intelligence weapon that looks like a staff. If you see him using it, you'll ready need me then." Though he's normally approaching Ren's location by that time.

He picked up his drink before responding to Chiyo's question. "His name is Ren, not Sugata. I never met them before but I'm if he's anything like Ren I'll be happy to deal with him too. As for clothing it's non-descript unless you're encountering him in his Barrier Jacket. Then it's a gaudy suit and cape."

Kaoru took a sip of his drink, it tasted very sweet. "I have Garmr to fight him," he griped his bracelet, "and that's more than enough. Though employing a creature that can hunt jerks is still quite useful as I don't know his location once he inevitably flees." Kaoru gained a steely look. "As for the falling out: I was going to save him from some unscrupulous organization and he said no. He thought keeping him from his true potential and I looked down on him like everyone else. Unsurprisingly I see him attacking innocent people the next day. Though to my surprise, he claims it was voluntary," he looks briefly disappointed before regaining his hard look, "He deserves any punishment he gets at this point."

Mamoru Chiba has posed:
Mamoru relaxes, tearing his gaze back from watching Anko wander off. "Ohhhh. Are you a Device Mage too? I think your Device can act like a smartphone. I know Hanzo's does. And anyway, okay, so even if it can't, you go to our school and presumably live on campus. Have you spoken to Harlaown-san yet? Or any of the other Device Mages who are stuck here, or who live here?"

He waves a hand around. "Yeah. You're right not to have fallen for Obsidian's stuff. I used to work for them... and my brothers still do. I'm still trying to reach Riventon, but I'm going to rearrange his face before I get there." He finishes his iced coffee thing. "Here-- oh, you said Barrier Jacket instead of Knight Cloth, right? Okay, telling the Belkans later, telling the TSAB kids first." He gets his phone out and thumbs in the message 'New Devicer, Kaoru Kyrkogrim, Midchildan, comes with his own nemesis Ren who has blue hair, fifth or sixth grade i guess, RHA student'

It takes a bit to thumb in, and he says distractedly, "I'm not a Devicer myself, I'm a Sailor Senshi. Tuxedo Mask. You'll know me by the mask and the tuxedo. There's also a cape, it's *integral*."

Finally he looks up again and he smiles, and it's a little apologetic. "You are stuck here, but you're not the only one in your shoes. In either sense. I know what it's like to feel like you're losing your best friend, and my friends know what it's like to be stranded on Earth. Which... welcome."

Chiyo Sakai has posed:
Chiyo Sakai blinks a single time when she realizes how it might have sounded when she mentioned Sugata's name. "Oh! No, Sugata's my teammate not-- He's just got blue hair and is rather dangerous. But he's on our side!" She hastens to add with a chuckle.

It seems Mamoru has gotten the rest of it put together as she nods with a soft 'oh' of understanding. "Oh, okay that makes sense if he's a device user." With the little explanations given she flashes a grin herself.

"I'm a Star Driver. We fight with our Cybody partners." A pause as she considers, murmering, "Though partners is an odd phrase I guess it's as close as I can explain without getting into detail." A quick shake of her head comes, and she takes another quick gulp of her drink.

"Speaking of however, I ought to get going. I was just going to drop off some notes for Usagi-chan. I've got some practice of my own to get to. It was nice meeting you, Kaoru."

Laisa Samuiko has posed:
Laisa hears 'Intelligence Device' and immediately thinks of Rashmi. Mamoru explains who he is and Chiyo follows suit. Laisa has never been particularly secretive about who she is, but she takes a moment to think of how to explain it. "I'm... an Accursed, I guess? I've never actually heard the formal name for what I am, now that I think about it. I get my magical artifact from a cursed object called the Rime Rosary, which lets me summon blizzards and make things out of snow and ice. It has a few nasty legends surrounding it but I'm still sussing out what's true and what isn't."

Chiyo has to go, and Laisa waves. "Good luck."

She lets Mamoru take the lead on making connections because he is, frankly, a lot more connected than she is. Not that she doubts for one second that Rashmi would eagerly help someone who needed it, regardless of who asked, but... well, the Earth Prince is already addressing the problem.

"We've got a few Device Mages around. Most of them are nice. The ones who aren't... really aren't. Be careful."

Kaoru Kyrkogrim (304) has posed:
Karou looked at his bracelet once again. "It appears I've underestimated you again. I never thought I could use you as phone too." He shook his head when Mamoru asked about Chrono. "I never meet them. Though I did expect to run into some others Devicers stuck here too. It would be interesting to talk to one." There was a lighter edge to his tone when he heard about Mamoru's experience with Obsidian. "I'm great you're away from them now. It gets me hope that maybe I'll reach Ren one day too. As for your brothers and this Riventon. I'll be sure to deal with them too if I meet them." He responded with sad smile at Mamoru's final statement. "I'm not surprised. I knew there was a likely chance I'll be stuck here and the ship I used to get here is unreachable at this point. So even if it was able to leave the planet I wouldn't be able to get it working again." He at least appreciated that Mamoru could provide some help as someone who went through the same thing. It would be a lot easier to unders this world if he did a guide. "This part of Earth is a lot more pleasant than my landing spot at least."

Kaoru silently waved to Chiyo when she went to leave. Taking note that if he encounters a Sugata he should be nice to them.

He looked unconcerned with Laisa's warning. "I dealt with Ren before. I'm prepared to deal with any other Decive Mages that fight on his side as well." Between Accursed, Cybody, and Senshi he was surprised to see that there was so much magic native to the planet. He assumed anything magical would be coming from beings stranded on Earth. "Hmmh. I'll be interested in seeing what you find on your cursed object."

Mamoru Chiba has posed:
Mamoru nods-- "Tell your device my number is XXXXXX, and you can send my phone a text-only message or call me that way. You might hear from our friends first though, they're really helpful. Nicomachea or Hanzo might contact your Device."

Then he takes a pocketwatch out of his pocket and checks the time on that instead of his phone, and frowns. "And my wife is not here yet. Ugh, can you even get detention in summer school? I hope she's just distracted... Excuse me, please," he says. He takes out his phone and gets up. "Be back in a moment."

Truly, he won't, not if he's calling Usagi, and Laisa knows it.

Laisa Samuiko has posed:
Laisa listens to Mamoru and Kaoru as she finishes off her iced coffee. She looks down at the empty coffee cup and her empty slushie cup before deciding that maybe she's had enough cold things to drink. For now.

(That's untrue. Snow angels can never have enough cold.)

"I dread the day my family members start trying to move into Obsidian. Most of them aren't magic aware, but... I suspect a handful of them are."

Mamoru gets up to leave. Laisa frowns pensively before warning Kaoru, "He might... actually be gone a while." Can you get detention in summer school? Laisa is pretty sure you can, but who would actually assign it?

She gives the cat in her lap a few more pets and then sets it aside before getting up, taking her trash with her. "Well, it was nice to meet you, Kaoru. Hopefully we'll see each other again. Enjoy the cats, and don't be afraid to look for help either in this cat cafe or on campus. Until we meet again."

Then she leaves the cafe, tossing her cups into the bin as she passes.
