| Synopsis: | Sometimes, friendship is sitting down for a good old fashioned vent session. What you can't talk to your man about, you can always talk to your best friends about. |
| Cast of Characters: | Usagi Tsukino, Wako Agemaki |
| Tinyplot: | Brotherfight |
- Usagi Tsukino has posed:
It's been... a good two weeks since Mamoru and Riventon had their fight, and Riventon broke a little bit more of Mamoru's heart. Usagi's been processing things - with Mamoru, with her girls, figuring out what to do about the orb, learning about the orb, learning about Hiddenite -
And now, she's at the most important part of processing:
Talking mad shit a close friend.
RThus why she arrives at Sugata's house, having been invited by Wako when she'd asked to talk. She's welcomed by Jaguar, a very pretty girl with cat ears and a maid outfit that Usagi goggles at, but doesn't quite lose her head of mad over. She's wearing an eye-searingly pink puffer jacket that protects well against the chill weather, a knee-length orange dress, and a pair of sky-blue leggings, all clashing in a way that works almost against the will of the eye.
When she's shown to wear Wako waits, she thrusts the door open, points at her friend, and declares loudly, "Riventon is a jerk!!!"
She knows that she is in the greatest of company for this conversation.
- Wako Agemaki has posed:
It's a traditional style Japanese house, and that means that Usagi can hear Wako's singing voice well before they actually reach the shoji that Jaguar bows her politely through.
"When small pieces of stone that contain wishes are aligned,
They fill the gaps like cogwheels that mesh together
It's a stroke everyone longs for,
Even if the notes are not in harmony yet.
"Once I close my eyes, it will appear in my head
The endless feeling of--"
She breaks off as the door slides open with its gentle clack and Usagi's declaration. For a moment, her eyes are very wide - either at Usagi's entrance, or the color combination of her outfit. In the barest second, though, it gives way to a rueful smile of the greatest understanding. "Isn't he, though?"
Hopping up from where she'd been sitting, she hurries to meet Usagi with hands outstretched. "Come on, come on. We've set up the kotatsu, so some and sit and tell me everything."
Jaguar has already vanished, but there's a ceramic teapot and cups waiting on the kotatsu, the same traditional kind of style as the rest of the house.
- Usagi Tsukino has posed:
Wako's voice, as ever, is lovely, floating through the house, filling the large space with melody, and it's almost enough to make Usagi regret her dramatic entrance.
Almost.
The fact that Wako responds with that rueful amusement just validates her feelings, and she follows her along to the kotatsu and sinks into the warmth with relief, before declaring, loudly, "He almost killed Mamochan! And didn't even apologize! Or admit it! He'd rather disown him to his new minion!"
Oh in spite of everything she'd said to Mamoru, she is in fact, fully pissed off.
- Wako Agemaki has posed:
"He did what?"
Wako busies herself filling two cups with hot hojicha, mellow roasted green tea. She slides one of them over to Usagi, her forehead creased in obvious concern. "Is Mamoru-san okay? I know he can heal, but--"
She breaks off, shaking her head a little as she sets the teapot down. "Trying to steal my Cybody is one thing," she says. "It's not like he could even take my mark if he tried, but... isn't he supposed to be Mamoru-san's brother?"
The shoji slides open again. This time it's Tiger - another maid with a short black bob and her own kitty-ear headband - who comes in long enough to deliver a platter of Nounamu wagashi to the kotatsu, and then just as quickly see herself back out.
%
- Usagi Tsukino has posed:
"I KNOW!"
She throws her hands up, then quickly lowers them, and accepts the cup of tea, sipping it so hastily that she burns her tongue a little and hisses! Stupid Riventon!
"He's okay - I mean, physically, he's okay, but, emotionally - it's like - that's his brother. And Riventon - he was the only brother who hadn't ever betrayed him, and so it really hurts, and he tried to take some of the blame, was all, I lied to him, I was dismissive, I said he was jealous, and I just -"
Her face crumples a little.
"I had to tell him that that's abusive and he'd never even thought about it, like that, and I... I had to be the one to tell him. That he shouldn't have to feel like he can't tell his brother the truth or his brother will get so mad at him it could mess up their relationship. Or that he could almost kill him."
Tiger steps in with sweets, and Usagi hurriedly thanks her before biting into one of the wagashi, a red bean paste flower.
"They - it was so stupid. It all started because he - he was helping us, in Crystal Tokyo, but it was with Beryl's power! That woman - who tortured him and murdered him and he used her power! We could feel it!" She shudders. "It felt like her. It felt so much like her that for a moment - and that's his brother!"
- Wako Agemaki has posed:
Wako listens, leaning forward a little and wrapping both hands around the glazed ceramic cup. She doesn't interrupt while Usagi pours all this out, just nods at points, makes sympathetic wincing faces at others. When Beryl's name is mentioned, she grimaces.
"That's the worst," she says at last, her mouth tight around the words. "I'm glad at least Mamoru-san has you. Still, that's so rough on both of you. If he cared even a little bit, you'd think he'd know better than to use a power like that."
She sighs heavily, looking down into her tea. "I guess some people really can't help themselves. When it comes to power, everything else comes second."
- Usagi Tsukino has posed:
Sometimes you need discourse, debate, philosophical discussion back and forth. Other times you just need to vent to a like-minded peer, a close friend who will stand with you while you spit out all the frustration and anger.
"I'm glad too, but - it's like he thinks I've taken over or something. When Mamochan pointed out he almost killed him, he said I should 'give Mamoru the phone back'." She scowls. "Like Mamochan can't think for himself, or something."
She puts her head down on her arms on the kotatsu. "Mamochan told him to give him back the orb, or he'd tell me and Kazuo-kun Riventon's identity. Because - well, I don't think he was really thinking it through, but a part of him probably knew Riventon wouldn't just give it up for no reason. Instead Riventon got all pissy and thought Mamochan was looking down on him because he's a prince, and I just... I don't like him."
Wako-chan is right. Some people can't help themselves. When it comes to power... "And ego. When it comes to power and ego."
- Wako Agemaki has posed:
"Of course you don't like him," says Wako, reasonably. "He's putting power and his own ego ahead of being Mamoru-san's brother, and he's being a jerk about it."
She sips her tea, then sets the cup down and spends a little while dithering over which wagashi to choose before finally selecting a monaka shaped like a turtle. "Honestly," she admits, "he kind of reminds me of Takuto-kun's father... although nobody's quite that bad. The stuff he's doing is plenty bad enough, though... especially if Mamoru-san can't give up on him yet."
- Usagi Tsukino has posed:
"Mamochan... still really cares about him," Usagi says sadly, "So I want to like him. I kind of liked him, before I knew who he was, because - now it just feels fake - but... I just - he can't even remember what Mamochan said!"
She flames up again before subsiding, grumpily popping a plum blosson shaped nerikiri with an appropriately plum flavor into her mouth. Her ears prick metaphorically, and she looks up at Wako continues.
"...It's one of those things where... it's not right to say he's Beryl-like just yet, because he's not, but he reminds me of her more these days. She was willing to hurt Mamochan for power, too. And she was pigheaded. And she was a Director at Obsidian, and so is he now."
That's right. The big jerk is a director.
- Wako Agemaki has posed:
Wako was just biting into her monaka when Usagi drops that little bombshell and nearly spoils Wako's appetite.
Nearly.
She chews and swallows hastily, a dismayed look widening her eyes and tugging down the corners of her mouth. "A director?" she repeats as soon as her mouth is no longer full. "Isn't that, like, really bad? Especially for somebody who's already super weird about power and getting more of it?"
- Usagi Tsukino has posed:
If Usagi was gesturing with her hands before? She is gesturing so much more now. Her hands flick up and towards Wako so quickly that you'd think she was a traffic controller at an airport runway.
"It! Sure! Is!!!"
She thumps back, colliding with the floor with a soft thump and a grumble.
"When he hurt Mamochan he didn't even have his device. They'd both put their items away, because they decided to fistfight it out like dumb boys, and then Riventon got so mad because Mamochan said he was wrong - and also that I win and he doesn't - that he got all Dark Energy anyway and threw him so hard he bounced and hit Masato so hard that he also bounced!!!" Yeah, she popped back up during that rant. She's flushed and upset. "And now he's recruited some girl, and he's probably looking for more, and he's a director. If you see him again and he picks a fight, don't hold back. You'll need as much strength as you can get."
- Wako Agemaki has posed:
The rest of the turtle monaka is very rapidly disappeared without any change in the grave expression that's come over Wako's face. She nods, slow but firm. "I will," she promises. "I'll let Takuto-kun know, too. He holds back a lot, most of the time."
She occupies herself for a short while with topping off both their cups with fresh tea, then settles back again, still looking pensive. "I guess now that he's a director, we can probably expect him to be causing new problems, too. Or at least, his minions definitely will be. Who's the girl he recruited? Nobody we know?"
- Usagi Tsukino has posed:
"I though the might be," Usagi nods sharply, "He always seems really excited to fight, but not like he's going all out? Not that I see him fight a lot, but - Mamochan asked the girls not to hold back either. None of us can really afford that if he ends up taking the field, when he can almost kill a civilian on accident just because he lost his temper."
No, she's not ever letting that bone of contention go.
"She's no one we know. Her name is Yuyami Kagayaki, and she's a genius girl transfer. She's got the same name and hair as a pony from Hinoiri-chan's world, but we're almost one hundred percent sure she's not the pony come over."
- Wako Agemaki has posed:
"...that's still so weird." It's an offhanded murmur, not really important to anything. Just... pony world. Now with the added wrinkle of, possibly, counterparts to the ponies from pony world? Clearly there is no point in baking her brain about it.
"Yuyami Kagayaki," she repeats instead, filing the name into memory. "Good to know. I'm sure she's not the only one, either, right? That's how these guys work. All the halfway important members of Glittering Crux had at least two flunkies. Takuto-kun ended up having to fight some of them two and three at a time. What a pain."
She straightens a little. "All right, anyway. I'll be on my guard in case there's any new trouble. You know if you need backup, you can call me any time, right? I mean, not that you really have to, but it's still good to have a little extra in your corner in a pinch. I'm always in yours, Usagi-chan."
- Usagi Tsukino has posed:
"It's weirder now that I think there could be like, an us there," Usagi admits, "Before, I could just think of it as like, a fairy world, those are real now, sure! But now..." she's not going to think about it too hard though! Not going to wonder if her Pegasus form is actually the shape of a girl - mare? - in KiraKiraFantastica.
"Mhm. I haven't met her yet, but Mamochan did, and I think Sugata did too, actually, he could probably tell you about that! And... yeah, I mean, he says he's not jealous of Mamochan, but I think he's a little jealous, or envious, or just ticked off and wants to be better than him, so he'll want more minions too - because that's kind of how he thinks of Mamochan's guys."
As far as she can tell, in retrospect, with how he'd acted and not acted as Hiddenite.
"But I'm sure we'll find out when we fight them, and hopefully convince them to like, run away screaming."
FLEE! FLEE, GIRLS!
Wako straightens up, and Usagi does too, mirroring her. She smiles, not quite for the first time today, but certainly with more sincerity. "I will. And the same for you - he did try to rob you, like, twice, and he shot Takuto-kun too. If you need me, I'm always ready to be at your side. And Mamochan thinks Sugata-kun is hilarious, so he's doubly ready to help."
- Wako Agemaki has posed:
"Hopefully we can talk some sense into them after we kick them around a little, even if we can't kick any sense into Riventon himself." Yeah no, Wako has no expectations in that quarter. "Making him mad that he can't keep his minions would be a little satisfying."
She pulls a face when Usagi brings up how Riventon shot Takuto; she picks up her tea again. "He might've lost interest in stealing a Cybody, or he might try again," she agrees. "There's no way to know until it happens, but I'll be careful, and I won't forget about you."
A beat. She grins into her cup. "I'm gonna tell the guys you said that about Mamoru-san."
- Usagi Tsukino has posed:
"That's the hope! They'll get tired of losing, or they'll see that Obsidian really isn't worth it, and they'll just - go on their way..." She shakes her head. "And yeah, it would be good to see him rattled some more."
She also doesn't have many hopes of changing Riventon. She'd love to see him prove her wrong, but would he? Would he?
She's making an apologetic face in response to Wako's face, and nods.
"He might have, or he's so busy with all his other dumb magic gunk that he's put it on the backburner, or whatever... but I'll do the same! I'll be careful, and I won't forget that you guys are in our corner too."
And then she laughs.
"Good! You should! He needs more friends that are guys, especially ones it can be not complicated with."
- Wako Agemaki has posed:
At that, Wako giggles. "If it's not complicated with Sugata-kun, that'll be a first. He could use more friends, too, though. Ones that he doesn't have to put on an act for, and who don't mind that he's a bit of a jerk."
She can say these things about him because she loves him. It's obvious in the warmth of her tone and the slightly proud smile when she calls him a jerk.
Setting down her cup once more, she offers Usagi a smile with a different, but just as sincere, warmth and affection. "Are you feeling a little bit better now? Want to stay for dinner?"
- Usagi Tsukino has posed:
"Mamochan can be a jerk too. He grew up with Riventon, I'd say it's a defense mechanism, except he's just a troll."
It's a moment of mutual comedy between two good friends, laughing with and not at one another. They love their respective partners, and they can acknowledge and even enjoy their 'faults'.
"Trust me, it's the same for Mamochan! There's always something with him and guy friends, it feels like... but yes. Yes, I... I am feeling better. I didn't want to dump it on Mamochan, and I know if I told my girls, half of them would suggest lighting Riventon on fire, and that wouldn't fix it, but... this helped a lot, Wako-chan. I would love to stay for dinner! And actually walk around this big mansion, I can't believe Sugata-kun really lives here! There's no way this was here before. Right? I didn't just miss it?"
