Cast of Characters: | Mamoru Chiba, 281 |
- Mamoru Chiba has posed:
School's out for the day, and Mamoru has a little time while everyone else is occupied with various things -- he can find them all and hold them in his heart, but at the moment, they are Elsewhere and he has Time. That time is currently being spent in the Shed, near but not next to Entrapta's gear, doing homework while waiting for her.
If instead Entrapta comes over while he's not there and takes her stuff, Mamoru will be sad, but he's a big boy, he can ask around in that case.
His jacket's over the back of his chair, and he's wearing a t-shirt under a white button-down, skinny jeans, dress shoes, glasses... and his t-shirt says ROCK COLLECTOR.
There is a white paper box with stripes on it, tied up with a thin ribbon, also near Entrapta's equipment but not next to it. Can't be too careful.
- Entrapta (281) has posed:
That's when Emily rolls up next to Mamoru's seat. She bumps into his foot, making a little whining sound as roombas sometimes do, then does a little twirl on the floor right where he can see her. She has no arms or legs, but is still very expressive in that she revs her motor animatedly, then bumps into Mamo's foot once more!
The sound of someone coming to the door would be heard next, as someone is clearly moving the statue outside. The door hasn't opened yet, but oh gee I wonder who it could possibly be?
Emily pauses, turning between the door and Mamoru, just as the door begins to open...
- Mamoru Chiba has posed:
"Hi Emily!" Mamoru says, blinking when the little robot starts bumping into him like a cat. Not even feeling foolish abut it, he treats the former roomba like one-- he leans over in his chair to scritch Emily's casing, just as the door begins to open and Emily pauses.
"Only me and people with purple hair are allowed in right now," he calls out cheerfully. "And Emilys are always okay."
- Entrapta (281) has posed:
Entrapta pauses in the doorway, looking around the room. "I swear I just heard that but slighly differently," she says, not sure if it's to herself or to whoever is inside. But after the scritches Emily chooses to come over and greet her, and Entrapta gets down with a huge smile on her face and greets the little robot with obvious love.
"Did you tidy up while I was gone?" she asks the roomba. Who of course did and it's very tidy in here. Emily is best roomba. She does, however, lift her head next and meet the gaze of the human inside. She isn't as certain how to react, obvious on her face. Then she straightens, Emily rubbing on her right foot, and says, "I know you! I think. We've definitely met. Hi!"
- Mamoru Chiba has posed:
Mamoru watches, smiling a little, as Entrapta smiles like that and loves up her little friend. When Entrapta turns her attention to him, Mamoru gets up and sweeps a bow! "Yes, I gave you some magic roses. I'm Rashmi-chan's friend Mamoru, and I'm also Sailor Moon's fiance," he says as he straightens up. "I'm not sure which of those will help, but something should! I brought you a-- something--"
He lets the sentence go in favor of spending his neurons on actually picking up the box and holding it out, grinning. "It's from Nounamu Sweets."
A twelve-piece assortment of mini wagashi in bright colors and soft cute pretty shapes.
"But I came to check on you, mostly. See how yu were doing!"
- Entrapta (281) has posed:
"RIGHT!" Her voice is just a little squeaky, she doesn't mean to be but is very kinda not perfect. Which is fine, not everyone is! "I have learned SO MUCH from that donation, you have no idea! It's got the most fascinating resonances with other magic types, have you considered using the roses as a weapon?"
Wow. Okay. "Also, these are so cute!" she blurts, looking at the gifts. "You're really nice to me. I hope I don't ruin that too." She takes one, a pink one with white offshoots, and pops it into her mouth. Nodding, she looks at Mamoru directly.
"So, what brings you to ...this is actually your area, so that question doesn't really make sense. Hm. I can try again. Hang on..." This is hard, apparently.
- Mamoru Chiba has posed:
"I-- that is a really good idea, using the roses as weapons," says Mamoru, caught a little bit flatfooted, but only a little bit. He looks a little wry, but mostly just like he's already having a good time. "Thanks."
Then the upperclassman blinks again and says, the words startled out of him, "You can't ruin it very easily. My four best friends ever all betrayed me and it ended the world, but we're okay now."
He waves a hand vaguely for a second. "You don't need to do that! I'm the unexpected one, and I'm just checking to see what you were doing. Because it's always interesting! But it looks like you're moving your operations elsewhere. Do you need space?"
- Entrapta (281) has posed:
"I thought so, given the way that they resonate with other magics. I'd put them into other environments and they find ways to interact that is almost always beneficial to the rose, not so much to the other wavelength involved. It's the most curious thing in my gathered objects."
She's pausing then to rewind and listen to what else he said, in her head. The slow nod that she gives is one of Deep Thought. Not the computer. But as she's doing it, she bends down. "She can see you now," she says, up to him as her hand reaches out to pat Emily's casing. "Front-facing camera linked to her neural system. Just yesterday, show her your face. She should know who she can trust, and not just by how they move when she bumps into them."
Her tone is gentle, but she also adds, "I'm talking gently because I think she can feel tones in the air, even though she hasn't got auditory connections yet. She reacts like she does. Yes, I'm moving out. I blew the place up too many times, I need a dedicated laboratory space."
- Mamoru Chiba has posed:
Dutifully, Mamoru shows Emily his face and stays still, but does smile after a second. "I think I wouldn't be at all surprised if she could feel tones in the air. She does have motion sensors, right? And, well, sound..."
Then he laughs, and it's a bit subdued. "You sound a little like my brother, needing lab space and experimenting on yourself... but I think you probably have better sense than he does. He has plenty of lab space now, but he's also building things to hurt innocent people, thinking it's the right thing to do."
- Entrapta (281) has posed:
Entrapta smiles as Mamoru smiles. "It's true. Motion and sound are related enough that an intelligent being could adapt one to suit the other. I forget how much science your people learn in their lessons on this world, sorry. Didn't mean to condescend, it's just..."
"My world? Most people get taught how to survive, and that's considered to be enough mostly. Unless you're nobility. Not used to the people I meet knowing the principles of physics."
She stands up after Emily has met Mamoru (she will remember his face) and looks at him. Then tilts her head. "Do I have good sense? I make a lot of mistakes. Seriously every day, I seem to get yelled at an awful lot. But I promise it's not on purpose, I'm trying to do good things!"
- Mamoru Chiba has posed:
"I didn't think you were condescending," says the prince reassuringly. "You have no way of knowing what I know without asking or overhearing me. It's good to be cautious with establishing a baseline. And that makes sense! Both the survival and the not being used to people knowing."
As Entrapta continues, Mamoru leans his chin in his hand and listens, watches her get up (does Emily count as an outboard facial recognition routine for Entrapta?) and look at him. And he thinks about it, tilting his own head a little.
"Hmm. I'm positive you have good sense compared to Riventon, but that doesn't necessarily mean you have objectively good sense relative to the average." A beat. "Whatever an average amount of good sense is."
Shaking his head, Mamoru meets Entrapta's gaze. "He uses dark energy, like I used to. It gradually strips you of good sense. So by nature you have better sense than he does. And everybody makes mistakes! Wow have I ever made mistakes. I believe you, and I kind of want to know who's yelling at you so I can have a little talk with them."
- Entrapta (281) has posed:
Emily's reactions do, infact, inform Entrapta's reactions. In some ways the roomba is better at recognizing what people want than the princess is. She's always had robots around her, and she relies on them to give her context for situational cues.
Like now. Emily is zooming around Mamoru like a joyful kid, and it makes Entrapta smile. And that makes her trust him more, and she actually remembers his name because of it. "Mamoru," she says to herself. Names are only remembered if they are important. Then she jolts up as if realizing that she's talking to someone, not just to herself.
"I don't know their names. Can you tell me anything about dark energy?" Just moving right past that, not knowing people's names comment, it seems? "I feel like I need to know more about it, my research is incomplete and I feel like it's dangerous to have a huge blank spot in what I know how to handle safely."
- Mamoru Chiba has posed:
"I can tell you as much as I can, which isn't exhaustive knowledge, because I never researched it. I used it like a blunt object because I hated it, it stung all the time," Mamoru admits. He knows that evasion, and right now he's willing to go along with it. He might ask Rashmi though.
"I can also tell you there's no safe handling of it. There's only reduced harm, and that requires having purification handy. I can also show you, with my psychometry, what my memories of using it are."
- Entrapta (281) has posed:
Entrapta pauses to rub her eyes. She looks to the left, to her gear that she still has to move, and seems to be calculating if she has enough time to have another interview today.
"I don't know what psychometry is, but I should experience it for the research. The data needs to be complete. I'm just not sure that I have time to work that in right this moment, I've got so much still to accomplish tonight and most of this needs to be packed away very carefully."
She smiles, awkwardly. "Some of it explodes if handled wrong. I don't mean to be rude, or say no! This is not a no, I definitely want to learn your experiences! I just don't think I have time right now!"
She looks like she's certain that she's just done this All Wrong. "I hope I didn't just say something really stupid, I can never tell if I'm doing that because facial expressions are garbage to me, nothing makes sense. I wish people had signs that told me what they were feeling. Big ones, right over their heads. For reference."
- Mamoru Chiba has posed:
Mamoru laughs. "I won't show you right now, then, but-- here, take my hand," he says, holding it out. "You haven't said or done anything stupid. And, I'm laughing because I'm in a good mood-- see?"
If she does, then she will feel the same golden warmth from his hand as the healing, last time, but this time instead of healing, there's-- they're not Entrapta's feelings. They're identifiably not Entrapta's feelings, she's not having them. But they're accessible to her: a personal warmth, happiness, an easygoing calm, curiosity, a particular underlying sense of geological time making everything less urgent at the moment--
"I cheat," he says, "finding out how other people feel. When I lost my powers, I couldn't sense anything that wasn't the five standard human senses, and I had to learn to read faces without the help-- so I definitely sympathize there."
Then he takes his hand back and starts to get up. "I don't want to keep you off your timetable, though. Can Emily text? Or do you have a phone you use?"
- Entrapta (281) has posed:
Entrapta takes Mamoru's hand. It is not an automatic thing, but she does it like putting your hand on a tabletop. Impersonal, just a motion. Not a connection. Until suddenly it is.
Then she gasps. Her eyes go wide, and she pulls away but not until after she's felt all of these things. Then she says, "Psychometry?" But it's only phrased as a question, she knows the answer in her eyes. The word makes sense when put into context.
"Um. No. Emily can't text, but Penelope can. Penelope?"
Her phone, in her pocket, lights up. "Yes Enissa?"
"Say hi, this is Mamoru. He knows."
The phone giggles, it giggles! "Okay Entrapta. Proper names then. Hello Mamoru, you're in my lists as Tuxedo Kamen, it's nice to meet you. I was recording last time you were here, but not really up to spec yet."
Entrapta shrugs. "She's programming herself from Earth media sources. Very advanced." Celphone.
- Mamoru Chiba has posed:
There's a nod at the question Entrapta already knows the answer to, and a wry smile. "Just so." And then, "Hello, Penelope," Mamoru says very politely. And then he bites his lips to try and hide the immediate grin when the phone giggles.
It doesn't work very well.
When Entrapta says Penelope's programming herself from Earth sources, he looks alarmed. "Make sure you don't let her talk to ChatFTP, it's a large language model that's full of absolute nonsense mixed with real things, just like the internet, because that's what it trained on too."
Mamoru packs up his books and his satchel, then gives Entrapta a rakish grin and henshins into his prince armor. "It's my turn to pick up Chibiusa-- who you should also meet sometime soon!-- so I'm going to hit the road ~dramatically~."
He pulls up his cape and by the time it's up by his head, his feet have disappeared, and it keeps going until he's gone.
