Cast of Characters: | Takashi Agera |
Kaolinite walked down the hall, her high heels echoing down the sterile-looking bit of Obsidian's medical ward. Technically, it was the Medical Research wing, and medical research did go on here in small doses, but it was also the site for the infirmary; the place Obsidian's human (or part-human) field troops were taken for severe injuries. There were even a couple actual medical school graduated doctors there. And a few more 'Doctors'.
Her annoyance was palpable, obvious to those who passed by her. But then again Kaolinite was usually annoyed, it seemed, unless she was at Doctor Tomoe's side.
Today she was particularly bothered though, because she was here at the insistence of Hotaru. It wasn't that Hotaru bothered her, really - she seemed to bother the girl more than the other way around - but it was that she told her father the most outrageous thing. That Takashi Agera - the boy who wasn't even a Daimon but always seemed to reach for power above his station - had a Pure Heart Crystal harvested from a human at the infirmary, and the only reason he didn't pass it on was he didn't want someone else to steal his credit.
Agera was smart, and driven, but he was ultimately the lowest person on the totem pole in the DeathBusters divison - or Tomoe LifeScience as the ridiculous corporate name went - who still had any authority at all. He had gotten lucky with the rifles, but he must have wanted to see the professor for some other reason; perhaps just to get some sympathy from being wounded in a hospital bed for the professor's goals. If the boy was a daimon he wouldn't be so easily broken.
She opened the door to the little room where the boy was laying. He did look... pretty rough. All bandaged up and pale. A ridiculously weak human specimin. If anything she was going to recommend to the professor that they just use him as a host again. "Agera-san, what is the meaning of sending the Professor's daughter up to bother him on your behalf? I understand that you are injured, but she believes your wild stories and now I have to take time away from my own work..." Kaolinite began.
Takashi grunted in pain as he sat up while she talked, moved his one good arm to the pocket of the lab coat that was at the foot of the bed... and withdrew a shimmering crystal. Bright and brilliant, three full crystal points and one broken one. Enough that the boy, Takuto, wouldn't die, but most of his body's energy and magical capacity and who knows what other intangibles had been crystalized into this. Kaolinite stopped dead in her talk and just looked at it.
"Viluy said she called a retreat and left, though." Kaolinite said. "How did you..."
"Well, I'm not cosplaying as half a mummy cause I believe it's still halloween or something. I risked a lot to get it. And I almost didn't make it out - with it, or myself. That's why I wanted Professor Tomoe-Sensei to take it. If I'm going to nearly die for something I'd at least like the credit for it." he says. "But you're also pretty results-oriented rather than office politics, so..." he pushed it out to her. "It's to help Hotaru-chan, right?" he says as he pushes the crystal into her hand. "I told you not to underestimate me." he says before laying back down. "Also my everything hurts." Being lanced with positive energy when your body reacted so poorly to it - that'll do you a bad day. "So if you could take that to him so he can help his girl, I am going to ask for more painkillers. Like a lot more."
Kaolinite looked down at the crystal in her hand. "...Yes, I'll certainly get this to the Professor right away." She started to walk and then turned around. "... Good job, Agera-san. And don't worry... we will certainly use this for Hotaru-chan." she said before leaving down the hallway. Maybe the boy didn't need to be a host just yet, after all.
And when Kaolinite put the shimmering crystal into Doctor Tomoe's hands, he lifted the delicate shining beacon to the heavens and laughed maniacally.
