Office Hours -- Greta
Date of Scene: 12 September 2023
Location: Administrative Office
Synopsis: Greta gets called in to speak to Kyouka.
Cast of Characters: Greta Legend, Kyouka Inai

Greta Legend has posed:
The guidance counselor's office was the last place that Greta Legend thought she would ever find herself at. Her grades were fine, she was participating in school activities, AND she hasn't punched anyone since she the term began.

This time.

As she waits outside the door, she continues contemplates the reason Miss Inai called for her. Perhaps she was concerned about her history of school transfers making it difficult to fit in? Or perhaps was concerned that she just wasn't socializing nearly as much as a student her age should.

Greta was good at group projects, since she focused on the task, but she was alays a little too terse with her fellow students, especially in Cooking Club. Were there complaints? WHO WOULD COMPLAIN?!

Whatever, so long as the lady didn't feel the need to call in her father, Greta could probably breeze through this.

Kyouka Inai has posed:
Inside the office, Kyouka is seated behind her desk. She has her large, padded office chair half-turned to look out the large window positioned behind it, the view over the courtyard and athletic fields of the school. When she hears a knock on her door, she sits further upright in the chair and turns towards the door, resting her forearms on the desk.

"Come in, Ms. Legend." She calls out in a friendly, somewhat cheerful voice, guessing correctly that this is the appointment she had scheduled for more or less this time. It would be kind of embarassing to guess wrong, but then again the chances of someone else knocking on her door at the time of an appointment are pretty slim!

Greta Legend has posed:
Greta lets herself in when she knocks and approaches the desk of the guidance counselor, hands at her sides as says, "You called for me, Miss Inai?" Standard procedure, she addresses the older woman neutrally, with a respectful tone, her Japanese fluent enough that she can hold conversations without an issue, but she IS a foreigner so mistakes might be expected.

She scans around the room as she waits to be told to sit, noting that her father wasn, which is good because it would have been embarrassing for the man to show up for nothing, also looking for decorations that might be indicative of who this person was aside from standard guidance counselor.

She was disappointed to notice nothing unusual. This was going to be boring.

Kyouka Inai has posed:
The only real decoration of note beside the poster with the sun on it is a framed picture on a shelf against one wall, the rest of the shelf containing binders of files of some sort. The picture is of four teenagers, three girls and a boy, posing and smiling, one of whom is clearly the guidance counselor herself as a teen. However there's nothing about the people in the picture to suggest anything unusual.

"Please, have a seat." Kyouka gestures to the two stuffed armchairs facing her desk, letting Greta choose whichever she would like. They are very comfortable. Once she has sat, Kyouka gives her a smile, leaning one elbow on the desk. "Perhaps you're wondering why I asked you to come in today," She begins, with a mild shrug. "Well.. it's pretty simple. I'd like to invite you to my special training class for people with.. particular talents like yours."

Greta Legend has posed:
And already Greta was starting to see where this was going.

The European girl rolls her eyes a bit at the proposition of an extracurricular class, as she starts to immediately find reasons to turn this down, "Miss Inai, I don't really have any interest in extracurricular activitis. I'm only in the cooking club because I do have interests in the culinary arts, and because the school wouldn't let me not choose a club activity."

Extracurricular activities meant -friend- making, and she didn't want to deal with that.

Kyouka Inai has posed:
Kyouka shrugs her shoulders a little bit. "Well, the truth of the matter is that I can't force you to come." She says, mildly. "It's not even really an official class. But it's something that I think you would find both useful and interesting."

She smiles a lopsided smile, leaning on her elbow as she rests her chin on her hand. "You see, I might be listed as a guidance counselor here at RHA, but my actual goal is to train students with magical abilities in how to better use them in combat. So that's the extra-curricular class I'm proposing you join me for."

"I call it self-defense class. But really its magical combat training. There's quite a few students in the class already. So you wouldn't have any shortage of sparring partners. Or potential allies. Very useful for people in the business."

Greta Legend has posed:
There is a bit of time between the words entering Greta's ears, processesing the meaning of the words, translating from Japanese to English and German in her head, comprehending the ramifications and trying to intuit the intentions, and Kyouka could see it all sort of processing on her face as she goes from confused to surprised, to mildly angry, and then back to neutral.

And then Greta closes her eyes, deciding to skip denial of being a magical girl, and goes straight to, "You're bloody joking, right?"

Kyouka Inai has posed:
"Nope! That's my actual job here. The guidance counselor thing is kind of just a cover." Kyouka says, cheerfully, as if admitting she's kind of a fraud is no big deal. Well, it's not like her employers aren't aware. "They hired me here to help keep the younger generation on their feet, so to speak. A lot of people come into their powers and have no idea what's going on, or how to actually use them to defend themselves."

She pulls a business card from her desk, with her name and number on the front, and turns it over to scribble the time and place of the class on the back in pen. "I'm not saying you need that kind of help. But surely having easy access to sparring partners in a safe environment can only be valuable." She pushes the card across the desk towards Greta.

Greta Legend has posed:
Greta blinks a moment before pushing her glasses up her face, taking a breath, "It's that part that's the joke." She then sighs, "Bloody hell." Apparently she's got a bit of a mouth on her, but she keeps it in English. "I'm doing fine enough on my own, Miss Inai."

That wasn't strictly true, but Greta was never going to admit it. She was starting to overwork herself, and worse she was starting to get in over her head in some encounters.

"I get that teamwork and friendship is a thing in the Magical girl shows, but this isn't a show."

Kyouka Inai has posed:
Kyouka shrugs her shoulders again, leaning back in her seat after pushing the card across the desk. It sits on the edge, waiting for Greta to take it... or not. "Well, like I said, I can't force you." She says, with another small smile. "It's not mandatory, and I don't have the power or inclination to make you come if you're not interested."

"But I do think you should consider it." She taps the desk with her finger. "Take the card. Hang onto it. Think about it. If you decide later it might be a good idea, you're more than welcome to come at any time. I'm not going to refuse you just because you took some time to think it over."

Greta Legend has posed:
Greta narrows her eyes, glancing down at the card and taking it, flipping it back and forth, before looking back at the lady suspiciously, "And how do I know this isn't some kind of trap? I heard that adults forget about all about magic. Aren't you like..."

She looks back up at the counsilor, mentally trying to math out just how many years older she Kyouka is. Greta herself was thirteen, so if she had to guess... "Thirty? The only other person I've met that knows magic that much older knocked me half-way off a bloody chunk of space-time ship..."

Kyouka Inai has posed:
Kyouka waves her hand in idle dismissal. "Most people lose their magical abilities when they turn 18, its true. Some of them lost most of their memories too. But not everybody. You'll find there's a pretty big variance in that particular department, with a lot of different factors playing a part."

"Let's just say I'm qualified to do this job, and the school has the best interests of it's students at heart." She leans forward on her elbows, and flashes a brief smile. "I'll let that thirty comment go. For now. I know all grown-ups look the same to little kids." She's smiling, but that clearly touched nerve.

Greta Legend has posed:
"I'm thirteen, I'm not -that- young." Greta replies indignantly, before stuffing it in her pocket.

"Well we'll see..." She looks up and around before asking, "If that's it, can I go?" A Pause, "You didn't call my father here to tell him I was doing Magical Girl things, did you?"

Kyouka Inai has posed:
Kyouka shrugs her shoulders, not bothering to reply to the defensive comment about age. "You can go, if you want. I don't have the power or the inclination to keep you against your will." SHe gestures to the now-vanished card. "I said my piece. Whether you choose to accept the help or not is up to you."

At the question about the girl's father, Kyouka blinks. "No. I'm not interested in ratting people out to their parents, especially when said parents generally don't believe in such things and would just dismiss it anyway."

Greta Legend has posed:
"Oh. Right. Yeah that makes sense." While Greta had more than one she had run off from her father to do Mahou things, he never did comment on it, so the veil really must have been working. "It's nothing then... He's probably too worried about his projects anyway."

She stands up and turns to make for the door, "Well... Sorry for causing you trouble then." She gets to the door handle and lingers a moment.

"I've heard the name thrown around more than once by some of the other girls... Is 'Obsidian' -really- something to worry about?"

Kyouka Inai has posed:
Kyouka shrugs her shoulders yet again, as if to say that whether or not the Veil does its job is not up to her, but its very likely that Greta has nothing to worry about with regards to that particular issue. "No trouble. This is my job, after all." She says, with a broader smile.

Her smile vanishes when the other girl mentions Obsidian, and she quirks her brows. "Obsidian is definitely something to worry about.. in the, it's probably best to steer clear sort of way. But if you end up somehow involved with Obsidian, you're definitely going to want friends and allies to watch your back. From a purely practical standpoint."

Greta Legend has posed:
Greta at this point narrows her eyes, "The big megacorp? It's a joke, right? Isn't it just like... A cliche that the big businesses are actually evil?" Her tone oddly hostile to the notion.

"Because there are these bad guys running around calling themselves a part of Obsidian, and it's probably -just- a coincidence, right?"

Kyouka Inai has posed:
Kyouka shrugs her shoulders. "I mean, I think most big businesses are just regular evil. The sort of evil that abuses people for profit. And I'm sure a lot of Obsidian is just like that. Most of the people working there are probably no more evil than your average corporate worker."

"BUt if there are bad guys running around saying they work for Obsidian.. chances are they're telling the truth. Or at least, they're backed or funded by somebody at Obsidian.I can't say for sure if the particular bad guys you're talking about are telling the truth, but they might be."

Greta Legend has posed:
Greta can't help but nod slowly, before reaching for the door and replying, "Right... I'm just going to go..." Her thoughts were elsewhere, on something unspoken.

With a turn, she steps out of the room and for a moment leans against the wall outside, letting out a held breath. "That's stupid... Father wouoldn't work for them like that..." And then after taking a moment to calm down, she starts walking back to her next activity.
