Move-In
Date of Scene: 09 November 2024
Location: Mamoru's Apartment
Synopsis: The list of people Most Willing To Figuratively Sit On Mamoru help him move in.
Cast of Characters: Mamoru Chiba, Makoto Kino, Ami Mizuno, Jadeite, Kazuo Saitou, Usagi Tsukino

Mamoru Chiba has posed:
The inspector was actually able to come a day earlier than expected, yesterday -- of course Mamoru was like 'sure okay!' because it'd mean he could move in a day early, too. He already carried in the literal three boxes of stuff he owned and hung up the suits in his new closet, but there's an awful lot of...

"I am so bad at putting furniture together! Or taking it apart-- when Koji and I separated the bunkbeds it almost took my hand off!" Mamoru says cheerfully, surveying the big boxes piled in the center of the enormous living-room space.

The kitchen is put together, there's even soda in the fridge. ...there's only soda in the fridge.

The way things have been made to look-- it's not glass and steel and concrete. It's warm wooden fixtures and accents on cream-colored walls, and the floor is also polished hardwood, and the kitchen definitely has a poly-sealed mosaic floor that Usagi convinced him if he wanted he should get.

There are so many boxes.

There's even one labeled 'tapestries'.

"Maybe I overdid it..."

Makoto Kino has posed:
Makoto, naturally, brought along several bentos for the move-in helpers. Once she gets a look into the fridge, she's very glad she did. "You are planning on getting some groceries at some point," she wonders, as she returns from the kitchen to the main staging area for today's efforts. "Right?"

She's dressed to work, faded jeans and a shapeless old long-sleeved t-shirt that she's already rolled the sleeves of back up her arms. "Usagi-chan will never forgive me if I let you maim yourself. Maybe you should stick with things that don't need put together, and just point me at what heavy things go where."

Ami Mizuno has posed:
"I don't think so. It's just in the beginning stages after all," Ami remarks as she comes in glancing around at the decor--Or lack thereof. She steps carefully around one of the boxes so as to not slip or bump as she makes her way further in. Pausing she sweeps up one of the papers of directions to glance at it curiously.

"I'm sure I could help you decipher the instructions if necessary, and I'm sure Tamaki and Makoto could also help to build." Kazuo? Kazuo is in charge of paramedics or something, most likely.

Looking over toward Makoto in the kitchen she flashes her friend a grin. "I'm sure that's something we can also help him with."

Jadeite has posed:
Tamaki ignores the boxes when he comes in. AFter all, they have all the time in the world to unpack. He's given himself a quest that is far more time sensitive than unpacking.

He sets his paper carrying tray with coffee for himself and all the movers on the table, then the plastic bag that's faintly steaming, then takes out the first of the roasted sweet potatoes he bought out of the bag and offers it, still wrapped in tin foil, to Mamoru.

"No getting maimed and no starving," he says. "Sit down and eat something. Mako brought some incredible looking bentos after you get something warm in you, got it?"

Kazuo Saitou has posed:
"He won't maim himself," Kazuo promises Makoto and Tamaki. "As long as we keep him from actually severing any parts, and make sure he doesn't bleed on any upholstery or carpets," or tapestry, "he'll be just fine."

He does not sit down and eat something, either. He picks a packaged mattress that is not sized for a small country, and therefore can be eased along by one person, and starts shoving it in the general direction of the little hall leading off to the couple of bedrooms that are Not Mamoru's. Things what he knows where they goes: check.

Mamoru Chiba has posed:
Mamoru finds himself with a roasted sweet potato in his hand and stern instructions from Makoto and Tamaki. He looks very amused, and starts gingerly unwrapping the tinfoil. "Okay the frame of the bed that goes with the mattress Kazuo is carrying is over there," he points with the potato, "and there are lots of tools to do stuff with! Why am I so good at picking locks and so bullshit at putting things together?" he finishes on a puzzled note.

And he does NOT sit on the counter, he sits in a paint-smudged folding chair near the counter just outside the kitchen. He does glance to Ami and smile lopsidedly. "A lot of things don't have instructions, but that's because uh--"

Guilty look.

"I bought antiques. Mostly. Not all, but, uh... a lot."

He is a coward, and bites into the sweet potato. It's a little too hot, so that's a thing for a second.

Ami Mizuno has posed:
TXT to Mamoru from Chiyo: Heeeey Mamoru? Two things: The part-timer got sick and I'm going to have to cover for him so I can't really help with moving in.

TXT to Mamoru from Chiyo: Second thing: Ojiisan found out you got a place of your own. I'm so sorry. I'll be right up.

After those two messages the elevator starts making suspect noises of someone using it. Ami glances over at the sound before looking back to the others ensuring Mamoru does that whole 'eat you fool' thing. Kazuo's dragging of a mattress has her pause, then shake her head as she's vaguely reminded that calling out to 'lift with the knees' is probably not necessary.

"That's all right. If they're antiques then that means there are probably pictures online somewhere to at least give us an idea of how they're supposed to be assembled." She could definitely do her Woogle-Fu and find them if necessary.

"Thank you for making us bento, Mako-chan! And the coffee smells amazing, Tama-kun."

Makoto Kino has posed:
Mako grins back at Ami, quick and bright. "We'll figure it out," she says, unruffled by Mamoru's admission. "By which I mean Ami-chan will figure it out, probably, where there aren't instructions." She says it with the absolute faith of one who knows, in her heart of hearts, that there is no puzzle that Ami Mizuno cannot unpuzzle.

Tamaki and his provision of coffee and roasted sweet potatoes gets a pleased and approving nod, but Makoto isn't settling down for food or caffeine just yet. Instead, she homes in on the direction that Mamoru's potato indicated, thus to shoulder the biggest part of the unassembled frame and head off the way Kazuo dragged the mattress.

Kazuo Saitou has posed:
Doorstopped-open door into little hall! Doorstopped-open door into ... room which is ... painted absolutely black, walls and ceiling, because apparently someone decided they wanted to live in empty starless space. There is, fortunately, a further doorstopped-open door back into pleasant cream-and-wood, and windows and a door looking out over a balcony. Kazuo leans the mattress against a wall by the door, leaving plenty of room for Mako to come through. Since the room is tiny by the scale of the apartment, 'plenty of room' actually means 'plenty of room' instead of 'please get a megaphone to be having conversations back and forth.' "Thank you," he says to Makoto, with a little bow. "If you could put it just there -" he gestures - "the bed's going in that nook, there should be enough space to work as long as we don't crowd it."

Jadeite has posed:
Everyone's dealing with hauling beds and mattresses, which is all well and good - but that all seems to be covered. Tamaki makes sure Mamoru really is eating before he starts checking the labels on the boxes - and after a minute of searching, picks up and puts two on the countertop to start unpacking.

Cups! And! Plates! And! Tools!

"Is there anything in particular you need to put the bed together? I've found screwdrivers, but I can never tell the different ones apart."

Mamoru Chiba has posed:
When he's done coughing and waving his hands in the air, Chiyo has already come and gone, and Mamoru checks his phone because it buzzed, and oh RIP that was Chiyo, he missed her.

"Oh that makes sense," he says to Ami, licking his fingers, which he also lightly burned. Tiny bit. Too impatient. "Yeah they all have what they are on the boxes." Perfect search terms. He watches Makoto walk off after Kazuo and nibbles some more potat.

Then he looks up at Tamaki, listening, and nods-- gets up (and keeps eating, he knows better) to lean over the toolbox. He pulls out a flathead and a philips head, and pushes both into Tamaki's hands, smiling around his sweet potato.

Anko, it should be noted, is on top of the refrigerator.

Ami Mizuno has posed:
The elevator dings as it reaches the floor their on. Doors slide open, and while Chiyo isn't in it, whatever she had dropped off was. It's a box with a large family style rice cooker. Ontop of it is a small crate of Mandarin oranges, for luck. And the biggest thing, leaning against the wall of the elevator? Two fifty pound bags of high quality rice.

Ami steps over to the kitchen to get a glass from the dishes that Tamaki is unpacking which she fills, and brings back over to the 'ow hot mouth' Mamoru. Nothing is said, but she setss it down beside him.

"I think after dishes are done we should set up the table, and chairs, so you have somewhere to sit and eat properly," she begins already starting a checklist in her mind. "That way if we don't finish until late there's still somewhere everyone can sit." Hmm.

Makoto Kino has posed:
The black walls give Makoto pause, but she doesn't comment on them, just sets the pieces of bedframe down where Kazuo directs. "Got it," she replies, before leaving him to his own devices and heading briskly back the way she came.

She returns in time to hear Ami's suggestion, and stops for a moment, settled on one knee next to the other frame pieces. "That's a good idea," she says. "I figure beds are also a priority, if anyone's planning on spending tonight here? Essentials first."

Having said this, she hoists the other long side of the frame and totes it back off to join the first piece.

Jadeite has posed:
"I can work on kitchen distribution," Tamaki says, offering the screwdrivers to the more mechanically inclined running around the apartment. "It seems like you have the beds well handled for now, so I can work on getting this all out and sorted for use. And if it's an emergency, I can run out and buy some paper plates and plastic utensils!"

That...may be a better idea, he thinks, but he'll havet os ee how they're all feeling about washing dishes after hauling tapestries around.

Kazuo Saitou has posed:
Kazuo reappears from the direction he and Mako have been hauling bed pieces in, and his eyebrows twitch upward. He says nothing about the table proposition. What he does do is check a number of the boxes marked 'FRAGILE' for colored marker stripes, select one with a disconcertingly neon pink, and begin relocating it the same way the bed went. This one gets dropped in the black-painted room.

There are a lot of 'FRAGILE' boxes with that neon pink. Many of them match each other. Possibly they are planning to warehouse TVs for sale in it, or something.

Mamoru Chiba has posed:
Picking up the glass of water and taking a sip, Mamoru gives Ami a grateful look -- not sheepish at all, this boy has no shame -- and then sets it down again. He nods to Ami's suggestion as he more quickly finishes his sweet potato, since it's cooler now...

"There are three bedrooms-- there's only one other bed that needs to be put together, mine's already set up. I asked the delivery guys to do it, they were from the company that sold them..." He licks his fingers again, then goes for a coffee and a bento, because my god the sweet potato made him realize how much he needed coffee and an actual meal.

His friends know him.

"Um," he says to Tamaki, coffee halfway to his mouth, "probably paper plates and plastic utensils."

He watches Kazuo start moving the jillion FRAGILE boxes and briefly covers his mouth, but the corners of his eyes are crinkled.

"There's a dishwasher and the water's turned on and everything, but who wants to even load a dishwasher after OH *I* could do the dishes!"

Ami Mizuno has posed:
Ami Mizuno idly pats Mamoru's shoulder approvingly when he takes a drink of the water, as if she were absent-mindedly approving of a child doing what they were supposd to. In this case, hydrating after burning his mouth on a sweet potato. Which... DID smell good, and was portable, and maybe not such a bad snack for her as well. "Oh, that's a good idea with the beds. Technically they can be used as seats too." A logical reasoning.

"We'll get it all done though. It's not as if we're on a deadline. So long as we keep at it steadily it'll be done in no time." And not rushing will help prevent injuries too!

"What are all the 'Fragile' boxes? Lab beakers and glassware?"

Makoto Kino has posed:
Makoto ends up accepting the screwdrivers from Tamaki, carefully balancing her grip on her burden long enough to stuff the tools handle-side-down into a pocket of her jeans. Will they stay there? That's anyone's guess.

"You can do dishes," she tells Mamoru with a laugh. "If you feel like it. I'm sure nobody will stop you." She looks even more amused by Ami's guess about the 'Fragile' boxes, but if she has any thoughts on the matter she doesn't voice them, just resumes her hauling.

Jadeite has posed:
Paper plates and utensils - Tamaki gets the last of the first box of plates out, then starts texting himself a list of supplies. "Do you want some food, too? IS there toilet paper here? What about towels? Do you need laundrey detergent? If I'm going shopping, we should make a list so I don't have to keep coming and going." What else did a new house need -

Wait. "Do you have your towels out??"

Kazuo Saitou has posed:
"Towels are in a box in Mamoru's bedroom," Kazuo says as he reemerges. "Necessary sanitary and first aid supplies should be in the bathrooms." In case someone figures out how to run a screwdriver through their thumb while Mamoru is off doing something else. Note: he does not expect any such someone to be Makoto.

It's possible to tell he missed Ami's question because he's talking like an almost normal person instead of having ducked back inside the black-painted room, shoved the door shut, and howled laughing.

Usagi Tsukino has posed:
The door opens, the swing loud as Usagi announces, "Hi Mamochan, it's your friendly neighborhood Sailor Moon cosplayer! Here with all the stuff Chiyo-chan and gramps left!"

It is, indeed, Sailor Moon, with two huge bags of rice, a rice cooker, and a box of mandarin oranges piled precariously in her arms. Pretty much as she waddles towards the kitchen, she crouches and lets everything gently thump against the floor.

"Ah, you guys look so good all hard at work!"

Mamoru Chiba has posed:
"Minecraft servers," Mamoru tells Ami with a straight face. Maybe it's for the shoulder-pat. Maybe he's just a jerk and doesn't deserve friends like these. T_T

With that he's on a bento like white on rice, and he's got something in his mouth already by the time Makoto comes over again. Bright-eyed, he gives a thumbs-up to Mako telling him he can do the dishes.

"Oh ummm-- I can't cook, but I can make rice in a rice cooker?" Mamoru starts, and then Usagi comes in with all the things and Mamoru flusters, trying to get past Tamaki and not making it, but look at what it is! "And Chiyo-chan's grandpa just gave me two giant bags of rice and a rice cooker, and also mandarin oranges, so I'm good for now?" he suggests to Tamaki. He doesn't sound like he thinks it's going to fly, but he's giving it the old college try anyhow.

"All those things are good things to put on a list and what do you mean towels out--?"

But Kazuo's already got that covered, and he sneaks past Tamaki to sideways-tackle Sailor Moon into a scoop-hug, leaving his food and his coffee back on the counter top.

Ami Mizuno has posed:
"Minecraft server? Oh, I guess that would be fragile, too," Ami agrees with a solemn nod as she plucks up one of the sweet potatoes for herself. "We wouldn't want to jostle the Creepers."

With sweet potato in hand she moves to the counter to also obtain one of Makoto's bento before they all disapear. Just in time for the pig-tailed wall of sundries to shuffle in.

"Sagi-chan! Be careful you could pull a muscle," Ami worries at the sight of Usagi hauling in such a load of stuff, but she doesn't get in the way of Mamoru rushing over to greet and hug her. It was his place after all, and he was the fiance, he should get first greetings. "At least you're good on rice and... Not getting scurvy?"

Makoto Kino has posed:
"You are not going to live on plain rice and oranges," declares Makoto in tones of deep exasperation. "We can work up a basic grocery list later, Tamaki-kun. For now, do you at least have someplace to store the rice so it won't end up full of weevils?"

She has momentarily stopped in her hauling of bedframe parts and is standing over what remains of the pieces, hands on her hips. Congratulations, Mamoru, you have just convinced Makoto that you cannot be trusted to survive the winter on your own.

Jadeite has posed:
Tamaki finishes unstacking dishes and starts opening up different cabinets, looking for an appropriate place -

"These look big enough to hold the rice? Though I don't know if we're going to want to get a barrel or somethign to store those in," Tamaki says. "I imagine Mamoru-san has tupperware, but I don't know if he'd have anything suitable for this kind of food storage."

Hmm. "Miso soup mix and noodles good for a start? And eggs, of course."

Kazuo Saitou has posed:
Kazuo gives Mamoru a squint at the mention of Minecraft servers, before Ami provides him the context he was missing and there's a snicker. "The real reason you're letting me get away with this. Right." He does not dive for the bento, possibly because he does not want to lose a hand, possibly because he wants to get the rest of the electronics out of the way. So many screens. So many.

... that rice might weigh more than the Sailor carrying it.

He is good. He does not hide in the nice dark room, he comes right back out for the next load. Annnnd right out into the tone he recognizes. Very well. "I think there are food-grade buckets on order," he says quickly to Makoto. "-- though. Perhaps. Not ... that many."

Usagi Tsukino has posed:
Scoop hug! Sailor Moon herself is scooped up and giggles as she kisses Mamoru. "You've got oranges and rice! And a way to cook the rice, so, you're one-step above a bachelor. Maybe even one step above Kyouka-sensei, I don't remember if she had one."

Hmm... surely she did right?

Ehhh, maybe not.

"Don't worry, Ami-chan! As Sailor Moon I can totally lift that, and I could lift you too -" For now, as soon as her feet touch the ground, she scoops Mamoru up, showing off and then -

And then she almost drops him, because san?! She whips around, Mamoruin arms, and stares at Tamaki, appalled.

"San?! Is the grocery situation that dire?!"

Ami Mizuno has posed:
Pick HER up? Ami pinkens a bit while watching the demonstration of Mamoru getting scooped in turn. Her mind had wandered though which she hides as best as she can behind the cup of coffee she's sudden taking a few large gulps off of.

Kazuo's return is seized upon as a distraction. Nodding toward him she suggests, "I think there's large rice bins you can get for bulk. They have little wheels on them to slide in and out of a pantry or put beside a counter." Though she wasn't sure they were quite that big. Maybe Ojiisan just wasn't used to small amounts of rice with his line of work.

As the awkwardness over Tamaki's remark fills the room she leans over to ask him, in quiet hushed tones that still manage to carry, "Are you two having a lovers spat?"

Mamoru Chiba has posed:
Mamoru whoops out a laugh when Usagi scoops him up, and then his eyes go wide at Tamaki, and it's a miracle he doesn't get seasick when Usagi whips him around to stare at Tamaki too.

"Am I in trouble?" he asks immediately, eyes wary and worried at Tamaki and slightly guilty at Makoto. "What Kazuo said! Just moving in! There's also pineapple soda, it's in the fridge."

And Ami asks that, and Mamoru just flops back in Sailor Moon's arms and dramatically flings his arm over his eyes.

This drama is a clear and obvious invitation to Anko, who immediately takes it, jumping from the top of the fridge and ricocheting off the counter and landing on Mamoru's gut then launching off him into the camouflaged cat run up near the ceiling.

"Ugh," Mamoru says, jackknifing and probably sending both himself and Usagi to the floor.

This boy cannot survive the winter on his own.

Jadeite has posed:
Tamaki blinks, and goes over what he's said in the last five minutes, and blanches.

"Ami, Usagi, Kazuo, Makoto Mamoru, everything is fine!" he protests, throwing his hands up in a flurry even as he turns red. "I just - I have a 14,000 year old habit of calling him 'my prince' that I"m trying to break and sometimes the name I say instead isn't! The right one?"

Groceries forgotten! Boyfriend emergency???

"Do you two need some help up?" he asks, gingerly leaning over Mamoru and Usagi.

Makoto Kino has posed:
"I saw your fridge," Makoto tells Mamoru, in a tone that indicates she was not impressed by the contents. She looks toward Tamaki like she means to add a few things to his list - but checks herself, because matters have taken a decided turn.

Never mind, she'll make a list later. For now, she gathers up the rest of the pieces of the bed frame (yes, all of them) and lugs them off. "It should be fine in the sacks for now," she tells Kazuo aside, on the way. "We'll figure the rest out soon."

Kazuo Saitou has posed:
"I say we blame America and the cornfields and have done with it," Kazuo says. Presumably about honorifics, not about the rice bins. Or the evil cat. He inclines his head to Makoto again, solemn. Decisions about food storage are apparently hers. Always delegate to the most competent. Right? Right. ... they are teenagers. Okay, in *this case* they are allowed to have good judgment.

And a desktop, apparently, since that's the next box he totes out of the way of spilled soda and/or spilled Mamorus.

Usagi Tsukino has posed:
They hit the floor with all the grace of a death drop on Ru Paul's great stage. Usagi drops her henshin as soon as she's on the ground, oofing with Mamoru's weight on top of her.

"Th-thanks... Anko..."

Wheezing.

"America can be at fault. What's wrong with Mamochan's fridge? It's pretty big."

Ami Mizuno has posed:
Ami Mizuno makes a startled little noise when Anko brings the couple down. All she can do is wince in sympathy. Cats could be very dangerous when they wanted to be as Luna had proven numerous times before. Just Anko was more of a cat-cat.

Makoto has gone out of the room again, and Tamaki is rushing to help, and Kazuo is helping to pull aside anything that might cause more damage from the two on the floor. Another sip of her coffee is taken before she sets it down to free her hands once more.

"I think they're concerned with how empty it is currently. We have the basic essentials though and there's likely a konbini nearby so it should be okay." She said that while Mako wasn't in the room, right? RIGHT?

"Neither of you hit your heads, did you?"

Mamoru Chiba has posed:
"Maybe," Mamoru answers Tamaki's question about them potentially needing help up, even as he gingerly rolls himself off of the wheezing Usagi. "And good okay I'm glad everything's all right." And then, "Fair," he calls after Makoto, "And thank you for enabling me. I'll learn if you want to teach me though!"

And, "Yes," he tells Kazuo, then calls after him, "I won't install stuff on them, don't worry!"

And finally, Mamoru looks up at Ami, and shakes his head. "Pretty sure we'd be rubbing our heads and wincing if we had."

Then he reaches for a hand-up from Tamaki after all, giving the curly-haired blond a piteous look. "Yes please."

Talk about enabling.

Usagi Tsukino has posed:
"Does Mamochan need to keep food in there?" Usagi asks, standing up with Tamaki's help. She throws an arm around Ami's shoulders and leans against her with a little smile, before glancing around. "I mean, snacks, sure, but, I feel like Mamochan can't cook? Just a feeling..."

But you know given the everything of it all.

"But okay, aside from that, what can I help with?"

Kazuo Saitou has posed:
"But if we don't keep food in there," Kazuo says mock-solemnly to Usagi, "when you visit, you might starve."

... he is not standing near the FRAGILE boxes this time. For some reason.
