HISTORY:
Alicia Testarossa led a very lonely yet happy life. Though her father was never present for it, and her mother was working so very often that the little time she spent with her loving mother Precia, left her alone in the house quite a bit. But it was alright, it was a very nice house and Alicia was independent enough for it, and her mother's doting love during the time they DID have together more than made up for the long work-related absences. Her mother was a researcher, after all, and she was working on a very large and important project, albeit secret and forbidden.
Thus, Alicia led an completely normal young life, though she could have done with a little more direct time with her mother, she knew she was loved very very much, but was so lonely, that she had to ask Precia for a little sister as a gift for her birthday!
But it was not to be. When Precia's project went up in smoke- and a flash of light- and a deadly blastwave, the last thing Alicia remembered before everything went a brilliant and pretty, and completely painless white glow, was the flash of light in the horizon. And then she died.
Precia was wracked with guilt, grief, and loss. Her daughter, her only daughter, killed by her own work. In a fit of desperation, Precia poured all of her knowledge, heart, and soul, into efforts to bring back her beloved Alicia, turning to the mad Jail Scaglietti to begin Project Fate. After forming a viable clone and implanting Alicia's memories into it... Fate was born. Though to her knowledge, all of Alicia's memories were hers, believing herself to be Precia's natural born daughter, rather than an artificial human.
And Precia tried. She really did try to accept the girl as her daughter, but when she held Fate it just didn't feel right. The way Fate laughed and smiled. It wasn't Alicia. Precia had failed. Fate was a failure. Rapidly over time, Precia grew colder towards Fate, leaving the girl shocked, hurt, confused. She wanted to desperately see her mother smile again, even as Precia put her in the care of a new Familiar, made just for training her in magic, Linith. Fate grew skilled, learning well under Linith's tutelage, and even rescuing an injured wolf pup that got separated from her pack, making Arf into her own Familiar. Eventually Linith created Bardiche for Fate on Precia's orders, a Device specifically made to cater to Fate's strengths and be her partner.
But then Precia released Linith, forcing her to leave without even a goodbye to Fate. The abuse began. But by this time, Fate was so desperate to make her mother happy again that she weathered through it. Repeatedly, until it began to occur at almost every sign of failure.
Until the day came when Precia realized that she could have a use for Fate. Artifacts known as the Jewel Seeds had spread to Earth. With the Jewel Seeds in her possession, Precia would have the power to achieve her goals, and thus she enrolled Fate in Radiant Heart Academy as a cover for her daughter while Fate set to the task of seeking out the Jewel Seeds for Precia.
PERSONALITY:
Fate Testarossa is a girl of strong will and determination. Bearing Alicia's memories of course had a heavy impact on her goals and desires. When Precia first pried open the cloning vat Fate was born from, in Precia's eyes, everything was wrong right out of the gate. Fate displayed differences from Alicia almost immediately. It did not help that in Fate's mind her mother had seemingly instantly transformed from a happy and caring guardian to suddenly see her as though years had passed and her body racked with visible ailment. But in the brief initial encounters with the woman she so strongly believed to be her biological mother, Precia did something that permanently changed Fate's development.
Precia met Fate with nothing but scorn and silent rejection.
Fate genuinely believes that she is the daughter of Precia Testarossa. Entirely unaware of Alicia before her, unaware that her memories are not her own, and that Precia does not love her. The girl truly thinks that maybe there's some way to return to the old days of love and warmth that she remembers and cherishes, yet seem so oddly far in the past.
The baseline of Alicia's memories that immediately set Precia high upon a pillar in Fate's mind, as a loving, caring, mother, even though she endured the woman's major neglect, lack of care, and outright using her as a tool for a much loftier end goal. It is actually because of these memories of Precia's love and kindness from the past, and Linith's kindness in essentially rearing her as a teacher and near surrogate mother-figure, that lays the baseline down for a genuinely kind girl, but the more recent and unstable guardianship has led to a devotion to Precia bordering on Stockholm Syndrome, believing herself to be able to bring back those old days if she can just please the woman. Unfortunately this is not the case; having no idea about her status as a clone and that she's merely a tool.
With her early formative years spent on nothing but solely training for Precia's doom-driven mission, Fate lived what amounted to a very sheltered life. Where most girls her age would be playing and making friends, Fate was mostly alone, spending her time hard in study, combat training, and living under Linith's tutoring. She naturally took like a duck to water. Linith- Precia's familiar- served as more of a mother figure to her during this time than Precia herself, who was simply too engrossed in research, to even bother with the child, leaving Fate with a deep confusion over why her mother had turned so cold, aged so fast and looked so sick.
That sparkling time with Linith lasted briefly though, and if there was anything Fate learned was that she did not fear her mother. She feared her mother's -disappointment-. She fears this disappointment more than Precia's retribution and the mounting levels of outright physical abuse, cold rebuke and withdrawal, leaving the girl hurt both more emotionally than physically, starving for the affections she so longs for.
Even making Arf into her Familiar and showing a level of magical skill usually displayed by much older and more experienced mages did not please Precia. Nothing ever seems to please Precia. Linith and Arf served as the two greatest anchors for the initial stages of Fate's life, and to her, Linith is almost like a second mother, while Arf was the companion that staved off the gnawing loneliness that dominated much of this time. Indeed, Fate's core cabal of companionship came in the form of Linith, the taciturn support of her Device Bardiche, and Arf her own Familiar. Spawned from Fate's gentle kindness, when she found a wolf pup dying and abandoned by her pack, Arf's undying loyalty that came as a result served as a balance to give her a 'friend' figure, in comparison to Linith serving as a 'mother'.
In a way Fate is forced to erect a wall of almost cold-aloofness, due both from her desire to do only things that please Precia, and also in part due to the fact that the girl has no idea how to properly interact with people, having been raised in a very solitary environment of just herself, Arf, Linith, and Precia, though anyone who can manage to whittle it away will easily be able to see the unsure and timid girl beneath.
