Unwanted. Unsightly. Useless. All her life, Kureha has been made to feel this way by her father Hozan Chikafuji and the rest of his extended family; sometimes, they even said it outright. Too weak and sickly to handle the family business, she spent her young life walking with a cane (and sometimes not at all), and living under her mother's family name - as if she were a shame simply by existing. No going outside. No interacting with undesirables. That treatment made her all the more fiercely loyal to the one maid in whom she felt she could trust; when that maid's life was threatened, the fierce oni's heart beating in her chest awoke at last, and an heirloom pendant from the Senkenzan family allowed Kureha to transform into a fiery oni of a magical girl. Not only did she awaken to the power of a mighty, unstoppable protector; the magic of Kureha's first transformation revitalized her body. Where once she hobbled, now she runs. Where once the Chikafuji family disdained her, now they butter up the potential pawn. Now that she suddenly has the power to step out in the world and choose her place in it, the young lady finds herself overwhelmed - but determined. The bitter politics of an old and sprawling family have meant that Kureha has precious little exposure to kind hearts and earnest words, leaving her cool and distrustful. But for anyone who can get past her defenses, they'll find an unfailingly loyal friend. And of course, there's a budding curiosity in her, a growing interest in the outside world she's been denied for so long.
