Profile

Madoka Kaname has been through a lot throughout her magical career, having gone from being a helpless sideliner to a magical girl goddess through the course of many hardships and trials. After heeding Homura's warnings to avoid Kyubey, Madoka ended up becoming a Chara Bearer. Now that all of her X-Chara have been purified, she uses her powers as Hope Concept to save those Puella Magi who have turned into Witches, and allow their cursed souls to pass on in peace. While her goddess form is indeed powerful, it's also very exhausting to stay in long term. She prefers to do most of her magical fighting as the more conventional Hope Blossom, wielding her branch bow to fire magical arrows of pink energy at the dark powers which threaten Tokyo and, sometimes, the world. Due to her links to many different timelines she has far more Chara than a Chara Bearer really should, representing the various wishes she's had over the course of many lifetimes. While Madoka Kaname is emotionally drained from her various ordeals, she is also finally at a place of relative peace. With the help of her fairies Brai, Medo, Lydian, Sio, Tia, Rens and Kamiko; Madoka has truly stepped into her power and started to embrace the kind of person she's always wanted to be: an unstoppable force of hope and good who brings not only justice and safety but healing and kindness. She does not fear death. She's used to it by now.

Guardian Chara

Kamiko: Formerly known as Gretchen, and born from Madoka's desire to be her very best self, Kamiko is known as the divine fairy or the goddess Chara. When she merges with Madoka, they become Hope Concept, a bringer of pure hope that is as much an incomprehensible presence as she is a magical girl. She would be an eldritch horror by nature if she wasn't so sweet. By herself, Kamiko maintains her own Labyrinth and can create her own Familiars, just like she used to as Gretchen, but they aren't exactly threatening or powerful. Just weird. As Gretchen, she represented Madoka's Witch form: Kriemhild Gretchen. However, Madoka rejected the idea that her best contribution to the world was to be a Witch, and so as a result Gretchen became an X-Chara. She was unable to be purified until her Chara Bearer accepted the reality of what her godlike potential really meant.

Brai: The Competence Chara. Brai and Gretchen both appeared at roughly the same time, and both as X-Chara. While Gretchen ran away and remained corrupted for a long time, X-Brai was only around very briefly before being purified. Born from Madoka's desire to become a magical girl like Homura, Brai bears some resemblance to Moemura, especially with the way she wears her hair in twin braids. Brai prides herself in being good at what she does, especially when it comes to tactical planning or combat analysis, but she never boasts about it.

Medo: The Medical Chara, and the third to hatch. Madoka's desire to help others has often led to her considering a career of being a nurse or doctor. Representing that dream, Medo is very no-nonsense by nature despite being very small and cute. She always treats the health and safety of others as a top priority, and is often the first to suggest, recommend or perform a suitable First Aid technique when needed. While she can magically produce some limited medical supplies, they are not any more powerful than their mundane counterparts. Anyone who wants actual magical healing should go elsewhere.

Lydian: The Art Chara, fourth to appear. When one of Walpurgisnacht's Familiars suddenly appeared, Madoka panicked and henshined with Gretchen to become Hope Witch, expecting to be facing the terrifying Walpurgisnacht itself. When that didn't happen, Hope Witch helped several Puella Magi defeat the stray Familiar and get rid of it once and for all. However, using Hope Witch had a terrible cost: Madoka's heart was overwhelmed with sorrow, pain and despair, and the shock of that forced Brai and Medo back into their eggs for at least a month. During that time, Gretchen refused to henshin with her again, and Madoka would have lost her powers completely if Lydian had not suddenly appeared. Born from a desire to be talented, Lydian represents Madoka's artistic side, and prefers it when her Bearer expresses her Creative Drive. Lydian has many opinions about how Kamiko could redecorate her Labyrinth. Opinions that Kamiko often entertains, out of love for her sister-Chara.

Sio: The Business Chara, fifth born. Based upon Madoka's desire to be more like her mother, Junko Kaname. Sio appeared shortly before Sayaka's twin Klarissa's Soul Gem turned dark, turning her into Oktavia. When Gretchen was forced to spell out the true fate of Puella Magi and the origin of Witches, Sio slapped the Witch-Chara for hiding something so important from them. Sio is always very business-minded, and is trying to get the other Minidokas to help her with moneymaking schemes. Sadly, it's hard to run any sort of business without advertisement, and it's impossible to advertise when you're magically invisible to the vast majority of potential customers. She will keep trying however, and encourages Madoka to do the same.

Tia: The Refined Chara. Hatched at the same time as Rens, both of whom are the last two of Madoka's Chara to appear. As a weak dream that was only one amongst way too many, Tia was an X-Chara from the moment she hatched. Madoka has seen several refined ladies in her time as a magical girl, people like Mami and Michiru, and every time she saw one there was a tiny nagging feeling of envy. That feeling eventually turned into Tia. Tia was purified briefly before the invasion of Gretchen's X-Paradise alongside Rens, but she refused to obey Madoka unless Gretchen could be purified too. Now as a proper Chara, she often tries to guide Madoka to be a bit more elegant. This is often an uphill battle, but both Tia and Madoka tend to be patient with each other.

Rens: The Science Chara. Hatched at the same time as Rens, both of whom are the last two of Madoka's Chara to appear. As an ill-fitting dream that Madoka didn't think she had time for, Rens quickly turned into an X-Chara. The more Madoka gained mastery over Hope Witch's Labyrinth, the more she become interested in the science of bent or folded space. Rens is born out of Madoka's desire to understand Gretchen's power, and as a result the science fairy is far more interested in studying Witch and Chara magic than she is in trying to understand any conventional subjects. Madoka has sense come to embrace what Rens represents, even if she doesn't fully understand that part of her yet. Rens was purified alongside Tia right before the final confrontation with Gretchen, but even as a purified Chara she would not accept Madoka unless Gretchen was fixed, too.
