Profile

Coco, the mermaid princess of the South Pacific Ocean, is a bright, loving, and caring girl, as well as quite brash and outspoken. She is also a fun-loving mermaid and someone who often goes around flirting with boys. One of Coco's most defining traits is her unbreakable loyalty to her friends, that often can't be reasoned with. This often causes her to become blind to her surroundings, as a result putting herself and others in danger just to rescue someone. She is good at keeping others' secrets, however she is bad at keeping a lid on her own feelings, causing others to perceive if something is shocking her.

As part of their education, mermaid princesses get sent to the surface world with their memories, mermaid forms and powers sealed by the goddess of the seas, Aqua Regina, to acquire understanding of life on the land from a human's point of view, until they would show adequate responsibility.

Mermaids are also quite reserved about their identities as a mermaid, as telling or showing humans their true identity would cause them to turn into seafoam. This doesn't apply to humans discovering it on their own, like by seeing their human and mermaid forms in separate circumstances and connecting the dots.

While she was amnesiac on land in this state, by coincidence or fate she met Sara, another amnesiac mermaid princess, and the two quickly became dear friends. Sara fell in love and started a relationship with a musical prodigy named Taro Mitsuki, however an unexpected change of heart from Taro broke her heart and she couldn't be aided or comforted, something Coco deeply regrets and considers her own stain. At this point, Sara's pained heart had forcibly torn open the lock Aqua Regina put on her nature, in the process also destroying Sara's own kingdom. This let her down a dark path, meeting the King of the Deep Seas, Gaito, and helping him with his plan to capture all seven mermaid princesses and their pearls.

As such, Sara gave Coco as prisoner to Gaito, a process eased by Coco wanting to mend her friend's broken heart. A few years later, the guardian Hippocampus unexpectedly managed to rescued Coco, at which point Coco's own lock naturally came undone due to her sense of loyalty she had demonstrated.

Still feeling deep guilt for failing to comfort Sara's broken heart and for Sara having taken this dark path, as well being unable to rescue Noel, another mermaid princess, from Gaito's clutches, she is all the more determined to free Noel and heal Sara's pain. This determination caused her to come to Tokyo when she heard that Gaito had struck a deal with Obsidian in his bid to gather all the seven pearls and take revenge on Aqua Regina.
